Mmorpgers need to get a sense of humour the video was just tongue in cheek, a bit of a giggle. Some of you guys seem to have taken it waaay too seriously. Then again the regular posters here seem to like to just criticise everything, like they think their opinion really matters lol

ok i have a question.. the game isn't out yet right? but there are tons of videos when played who played betas already finished the game, killed last boss and so on.. so wtf is happening here? some players finished the game that is not even out yet and they still create armor sets?

No it was not finished game, It was a preview last year and they change a lot in the game from that time. So noone did the endgame (except some alpha players that are testing)

the game has been in beta since like 2019 dude, like every other mmo alpha/beta, certain players reach end game and beat the bosses / dungeons before launch

What a terrible video. And the walking animation looks janky as hell.

The scenery looks nice. The walking animation of that last character was the most janky thing I’ve seen though! I’m pretty sure the original tomb raider game on ps1 had better walking animations. That animal skull on the belt of one of the first sets… that’s a nut cup, not a belt buckle! Why a female toon is wearing a nut cup is beyond me, although the year is 2021 so anything is possible!

Watch that video again except this time scrub from your memory that it's New World made by Amazon and replace it with some generic eastern game name by some no name eastern company and then tell me what you see..

They have all the money in the world and still decide to copy the most low budget looking eastern MMO designs out there..

Either they're pandering or they genuinely believe that eastern styles are better looking and if that's the case makes them nothing but vision-less copycat posers..

Take all the style rich possibilities of alternate colonial America and transforming it into some wanna-be eastern mobile MMO has people over at Pearl Abyss, Nexon + every other SK company laughing their A's off right now...

I mean .. the video is not the best I seen, but if you are really comparing New World with some .. low budget looking eastern MMO's, than you need some glasses.

Is it a early America or early Asia game?

The building design is obviously pagoda-esque https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagoda

2:39-2:46 on the left side in the back are BAMBOO trees. You know that thing Pandas eat?

The tree the characters walk by on the left is a Cherry Blossom tree.

The path/bridge the characters walk on is Japanese style design. If you visit Japan many of the tourist sites and forest paths have exactly the same design and it's what you'll walk on.

The hanging asian lanterns are hanging asian lanterns..

So again... is New World a early 'America' game or early 'Asia' game?

The overt Asian design of the artwork makes me think this game started life as a low-level generic Asian game, then was bought by Amazon and renamed/repurposed/rebranded.  Has any known game gone missing?

And you thought WoW was over the top with shoulder pads...  then there's this.

I like the video but I dont dig those armors. I would have liked to see them go more in the direction they already were headed in. In the alpha/beta there are already a few sets of armor that look pretty cool and fit the theme of the game a lot better. As someone mentioned before, these armors seem like they belong in an Eastern mmorpg.

I hope this was a joke.

If this is the direction they are going to go with their art style, I am not a fan. I don't like the overly elaborate Asian theme.

I'm guessing that it was a joke given the horrible walking animation and the characters floating 2 inches off the ground while walking.

what year are we in? 2012???
  • WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507
That was bizarre to say the least. They spent years putting out hype videos for this game being all dark and gritty, new world, dark magic, creatures of the night... Watcher'esque theme.

Now we are getting a couple cartoon armor sets that don't even look like they belong in the same game. They look like assets from 5 other MMOs that decided not to use them for their games and none of them match what we have seen prior for New World. What the heck happened?

All those other dark and gritty videos with a splash of Lovecraftian horror were meant to attract players.

This was a video for The Sims crowd that is not an insignificant part of those who hang out in MMOs these days judging by the popularity of cosmetics in cash shops.

If those costums were real world it would be fun to watch most of them fight. Flailing around unable to see squat. Chandlier head armor wearers would prevail.

That was actually a really cool way to show off the armor sets.

    I dig it.

Not really but i can only speak from my own perspective.
Do you like to already know EVERYTHING in the game or do you like to be surprised and discover things as you play?

All you do is piss and moan. You don't like anything, we get it. Now, STFU and move onto something you do like so you can stop crying every single day of your misserable life. P.S. How many games have you made? You seem to think you have all the answers. When are YOU going to show the rest of the world how it's done?

I had a look at their site and found some faction outfits that looked the part, I cannot see where the new armour sets fit into that. I think like Nyctelios said there is a big problem with constancy of direction with NW.

Yea personally I like the ones in your link way more than the ones in the vid.
Does anyone think this could be a politically correct shift in direction? I can remember some of us talking about how a game that seemed to be based on a fantasy version of the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs would not go down well with the twitterati. Are we going to see a the removal of outfits that are suggestive of that?
