Is paying attention to streamers trying new mmorpgs the 'in' thing for the mmorpg community? I ask because I keep seeing actual news articles about this guy trying another game and can't help but feel "Okay, welcome to the casuals that bounce between mmorpgs." I feel so out of touch if it is.
Good way to get the gathering skills up without gathering since people give you Gil + would have made more than the sub price for doing the stream anyways. I'd glady take a couple of whale mounts in the way for that.
It's kind of sickening actually, the attention this one person gets; not the harassments- he kind of put himself in that position.
Because he could have just behaved like a normal human-being; created a character name none would recognize, and.. I don't know.. not stream while playing?
But someone pointed out; "then he wouldn't get any money, he knows exactly what he's got himself into."
I just hope this doesn't become a regular thing, because it's dominated the forum boards for at least 2 weeks because he went out of his way to announce ahead of time to as many people as possible.
This person is just trying to make money, so getting harassed by a giant whale mount feels justified and almost ironic in this situation.
If you feel sickened by someone making a decent living out of their passion and enjoying themselves in the process, you've got a very nice long set of issues you may want to bring up to a professional.
Harassment is NEVER okay, regardless of who, where and what. That's why there are laws against that form of violence.
I was referring to a Whale mount messing around with him in a video game and you are making it sound like he was a physically beaten in a alleyway.
Please stop warping the context of what really happened here, NO one is defending actual harassment that is harmful to people, but what happened to him was FAR from that, it was just a bunch of his fans following him around and blocking NPC's - which people do EVERYTIME there is a major story patch update, and we all have to deal with it.

You should do an article on what this guys room looks like.
He lives like an absolute slob, it's disgusting.
For the interested, there's several videos on YT of him giving a tour of his filth.
Asmongold Gets DETHRONED For Most Disgusting Room Ever
7:20 He shows his "Asmongold's Lair Video"
At some point he talks about throwing up on the floor during a WoW raid and NEVER cleaning it up. It eventually "disappeared" because it got walked on so much.
Such a lovely community here. Makes me think of how as a kid I thought writing articles about gamingstuff must be a dreamjob and how gamers are the best. Oh how wrong I was.
Look at the activity this thread have, people want to talk about him , when he is brought up. Any metrics measuring activity on a this site would properly point at mentioning him even more is good.
Now also consider that as a streamer he is an influencer. He gives pr to every thing he does, for good or bad. And his content is about MMO's. I consider him unavoidable for good or bad.

So many haters here lol. I could count on one hand how many streamers (as in streams period) I have even watched so I have zero stake in this.....but seriously who gives AF? I've never seen so much bitterness over such a harmless thing. It was actually a pretty cool video, if all you felt was anger at watching this you should seek help.
To be fair, a lot of the patrons here would feel more comfortable with media personalities in their own demographic.
the dungeons/instances and stuff are not face roll stupid easy,
lol what
They will still be easy, but they at least have real mechanics later on and are more fun due to that.
Some dungeons you will wipe in if you screw up, especially if not over gearing. Starter dungeons in ffxiv are really lackluster especially for mmo veterans and are designed to teach ppl who never played mmoa before how to group play.
Look, no matter how you feel about the guy, he's seriously relevant to the mmorpg community. He's also a "personality". Asmongold is a character, just like Dr. Disrespect. It's why YouTubers, and tiktokers get millions of views and subscribers. You may not like it, you may not get it, but this is where the current generation of young adults and teenagers focus their attention. I'm an old fart (pushing 40) compared to most, and the fact is that this guy will have no effect on your life if you simply choose to ignore him and move along. He only matters to the people who think he matters.
Personally, I've never watched a streamer. Ever. I don't get it and have no interest in it. However I did watch his stream when I was on my phone and had nothing to do. But I didn't watch because of who he is. Not entirely. I watched to see someone's reaction to playing a game for the first time. Because you'll never get that again.
I think the problem is this, he's severely critical of blizzard/WoW. Oftentimes very warranted. Other times he's being over dramatic. But I think this "he shits on games and causes drama" perspective comes from the fact that the guy doesn't actually have fun playing his favorite game anymore because of how much blizzard bastardized it. So he comes off like all he does is complain and shit on it. He seems like he was trying to act like he was having fun for his videos/streams but not actually having fun.
Now watch him play FFXIV. He's genuinely having a good time. And even though he likes to give it shit for the cat girls and "weeb" environment at times, he's been very fair to the game and has pretty much said nothing but good things about it. And the guy is in the arguably worst part of the game.
He's also had a huge amount of patience dealing with those idiots trying to ruin his game experience. He gets props for that.
So really, the guy is extremely relevant to mmorpgs. Even if you don't understand why or like it, telling people to stop watching him is like someone telling you to stop gaming. You're not going to change someone's mind because you're bias against it. Streamers have existed for a long time now so this is nothing new.
Even tho I don't care about streamers or watching streams, I actually enjoyed watching some of his (well his video, not the live stream). I can get why some people may watch his. But those who go out of their way to ruin his experience because they don't like him for whatever reason will deserve their ban/suspension.
My kids grew up with streamers as a "thing", i've watched them go through several as their favorites as they aged.
As an example they watched little kid cartoons, then moved on to more mature shows for their age like icarly.
The best way i can describe streamers is, as they informed me of this, is that it's just entertainment to them.
I got this explanation at one point when they asked me for money to donate to a streamer becasue whoever it was at the the time was their favorite.
ofc my answer was when pigs fly, and said there is no way i'm giving someone money for sitting around playing video games, lmao. Anyway i was bad dad for a few days lmao.
Funny enough now that they are older i asked them if they are regularly donating money to Asmongold of all people because they still watch him here an there, and i get a Hell NO!
My thing was always why the f would you watch someone play video games, play it your f'ing self ffs.
So overall nutshell is that this is almost no different than having a favorite movie actor or a rock star similarity, as an example years back at a gaming convention i was able to get that guy that is mad all the time, got it Angry Joe, anyway i was able to get my youngest up to him and they talked, i mean wow he was on a cloud for days, now he never watches him anymore.
They are at where i'm at in most things regarding streamers, information is what we seek and we will favor certain people to watch for example raid videos, looking for value for my time.
So when you wonder why Asmongold is popular, well he sat in front of a camera, and this is the key to all, the why some are popular and the millions of ones you never heard about are not, it all comes down to personality, she or he clicks with a large base of viewers and they probably love to stream.
I for example will watch SignsOfKelani before any others for the facts and raid guides, then Taliesin & Evitel for the general going on's, and more often then i thought Naguura as she really explains stuff so well, and being a noob to endgame wow i've found many of her videos extremely helpful.

That is most definitely not what was going on. This shit doesn't happen during a patch. It's a circumstance of a patch. You can avoid most of those circumstances because you don't have an army of twits following you around trying to block your screen. His fans were staying back/out of his way for the most part. These other people were deliberately following him around with intent to ruin his gameplay experience to make him quit. There is plenty of evidence online of people tweeting about wanting to/doing it to get him to quit. It's in-game harassment plain and simple. It's right in the ToS about deliberately trying to ruin someone's game experience.
Also, just because someone makes money doing something doesn't mean they have to put up with people being shitheads to them. That's like walking down the street and getting slapped in the face for your job and saying "whelp, I guess this is to be expected". Why do gamers seem to lack so much human empathy?

Thankfully, SE has more common sense than you do, as evidenced by the people who got banned for...wait for it...harassment ! (and then cried online about it)
Glad that a big company has enough proverbial balls to take action against toxic people that are only trying to ruin somebody else's online experience.
I'll repeat it again because you didn't seem to get it the first time. Harassment is NOT okay. It doesn't matter who, what or where. It doesn't matter if the person being harassed is you, me, Asmongold or the Pope. There is ZERO reason to ever consider harassment as a reasonable course of action.
It is not a normal article for the page that always talks about mmorpg but it attracts more people than for me it is a good idea, to talk about a team or person who achieve things related to mmorpg games.
If you do not like asmongold or you are not interested in the article, it is simple, just do not comment, that way the editors will know the content is not to the liking and it causes the topic to be distorted.
but for my part this type of article attracts more people related to games.
the stream snipers also follow him in wow but he has already resigned himself to doing something or has gotten used to it, The devs take action on the matter it seems correct to me since if it happens to any player that they follow you and do not let you play the game in a normal way, it will generate hatred for the community and the GMs for allowing harassment or toxic players

Got to say I quite enjoyed this video and his unapologetic self talking about how he feels about these so called "good guys" doing bad things to "save" the community from him.... lol
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
He's the most popular streamer for the most popular MMORPG in history....other than that no clue.
And why should I care about that?
Who says you should?
It's a fact however he is a popular streamer, whether you like him or not, and as such like any big streamer he garners attention and views.
Add in that gamers love drama and not sure why anyone would even wonder why he might show up in gaming related websites on occasaions like this especially since there's not that many actual new mmo to report on.
Here's another fact...gaming websites report on w/e they feel will interest their global community or they feel needs reporting on and not to the particular liking of any one Joe so like most things you need to take it or leave it.

After seeing the buzz with FFXIV lately I finally gave the trial a try. I really don't get why people are hyping this game up. It feels and looks fairly old imo.
I felt the same when playing it. A bad copy of world of Warcraft.
