Final Fantasy 14 has seen an influx of new players the last few weeks, and in so doing have caused Square Enix to pull back the amount of digital codes available on the official website.

Pretty much.
mmorpg junkie since 1999
It's not a matter of running out of digital "stock". They could produce an infinite amount of keys. With that key comes an expectation to play on their servers, however. They just don't have enough servers / space for the influx of players.
IT has to be because of some outside influence...The game has been around for years now
You're a special kind aren't you? There's a hype, and they capitalize on hype by limit stock? are you dense?
Did you take 2 second to look at the picture in the post? all their servers are full, they pulled sales because of servers.
I'm impressed with the mental gymnastics to even come to a conclusion of somehow they can profit more if they sold less copies.
Wish I could get into this one - just doesn't click. Oh well...
lmao, I know right?
Square Enix- "lets purposely limit sales of a game that is popular right now because that will be good for our bottom line."
Did you also notice the WTFs to your reply? like somehow you are wrong and just being mean? ffs..it takes all kinds in this world I guess.
Weird but I guess they must have reasons, whatever those may be.
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

Another troll poster on MMORPG.com? What a shocker.
Most players are on normal PC client, and PS4. Steam is a drop in the bucket, mostly because buying DLC and items have to go through the the extra unnecessary step of doing it the rough steam. People who bought it on Steam did so regrettably.
server restrictions have been going on for a while now due to a lot of new people coming in before Asmongold, but he certainly impacted that even more.
EDIT: Apparently Shadowbringers has been the best piece of content FFXIV has ever had, putting the game as one of the best FF games ever released story-wise, so people are looking forward to Endwalker even more.
Housing!
They have been holding this one close to the chest since launch 17 years ago. Could you imagine how fast all this would end. Housing comes, ff was a threat, no housing, wasn't a threat.
I played at the re-launch and though the same thing. Between lackluster combat and the (for me, anyway) insane amount of grind, I didn't last more than a few weeks before canceling the sub.
Still doesn't matter to me eitehr way,the biggest sellers Wow and FFXIV are both not nearly good enough and Wow is just miles behind but hey let's cut Blizzard some slack, they haven't made enough money to improve Wow.
I need to see rpg's be designed so we live like a character in a world instead of chasing loot Bosses all game.In reality we could just skip all th ecommercials and just line up soem end game bosses andplayers instance in to kill them then logout and wait for the next expansion.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You're a special kind of stupid. They were asking a legitimate question and you went all arrogant troll on them. When ever an article comes out about Toxicity in gaming, YOU are who they are talking about. Go take a long walk off a short plank.
