I mostly worry the backlash in 1-2 months when people see the game isn't designed, nor will ever be, to consume all of your time. It's not a game to replace other facets of your life. It has limited, albeit quality, content. There will be reddit threads of "reeeee theres nothing to do!" from all the people who played it for 10+ hours a day since Asmon started.
How do you run out of digital stock ? Sorry but this is just them manipulating the hype by limiting supply,
You're a special kind aren't you? There's a hype, and they capitalize on hype by limit stock? are you dense?
Did you take 2 second to look at the picture in the post? all their servers are full, they pulled sales because of servers.
I'm impressed with the mental gymnastics to even come to a conclusion of somehow they can profit more if they sold less copies.
You're a special kind of stupid. They were asking a legitimate question and you went all arrogant troll on them. When ever an article comes out about Toxicity in gaming, YOU are who they are talking about. Go take a long walk off a short plank.
A legitimate question followed up with a deliberately conspiratorial and snarky remark. Plus it's not hard to assume as to why they did what they did. Most of us who dish it out here can take it, so I'm sure Markn's ego is still in intact, don't worry.
Well I got a "return for free" email, so if those went out in bulk, I would assume that is a good reason for the increased load
Speaking of "load" lodestone is also struggling "The server is experiencing unusually heavy traffic. Please try again later."

It's not that they run out per se, it's because they only generate so many digital account keys to keep server's from exploding, but they will also deliberately stop generating new keys if the influx begins getting out of control- which it has, very much so.
It's a bit ahead of schedule but this happens before every FFXIV expansion, it's just happening a bit sooner because some large Warcraft streamers and other popular internet figures from other mmorpg's are trying out FFXIV, and their fanbase is following them.
The free trial which has been overhauled to offer A LOT more then it used to free of charge and for as long as people want- is also eating into the influx, which plays a factor in SE slowing and halting digital keys generating.

With that said, I thought the FF14 team were super communicative. Why not tell people what's going on? Do they have new servers on the way? If so, when?
Maybe? Something is going to get Blizz to finally pull out the ace up their sleeve...
Housing!
They have been holding this one close to the chest since launch 17 years ago. Could you imagine how fast all this would end. Housing comes, ff was a threat, no housing, wasn't a threat.
I don't think it would make much of a difference at this point. Besides, garrisons in WoD were basically player housing, and....meh.
You should be fine playing ffxiv then as it is the opposite of action combat
Me? Im a fun of action combat but that didnt keep me from trying the game and Im glad that I did because even if its not perfect its a game I can tell the devs put all their heart into
I've played it for years. I dislike action combat MMOs because I suck at them. I still play them though, badly
All the new games are action combat. I don't use tab target I use my mouse to target even when I play tab target games I just never got into that habit.

I've never used tab to select targets in mmos either, on FFXIV's case i use a controller, but other tab target mmos I use the mouse as well. I do like action combat mmos but i would probably not have liked FFXIV as much if it had action combat. As it is right now it stayed true to traditional mmorpgs when using mouse and keyboard, and stayed true to classic FF games when using a controller. The best of both worlds to me.
Just to even out the inappropriate negativity here, I am really happy for SE as they really deserve this success simply by providing a very good product.
I'm also happy Asmongold (this 'totally not relevant to MMOs-guy') clearly contributed to this in a good way.
If it wouldn't be for SOLO now I'd hop back into FFXIV right away

NO this is capacity management they are not willing to Oversell the game to the detriment of the player base. they know their capacity limits and rather then taking on more then they can handle while the work on upping the capacity limits they have restricted at least in part the flow of new players

Did they fix the combat yet? Because when I played a couple years ago, even though I am a die hard FF fan, the combat was insanely boring. Not sure how it's that popular.
I played at the re-launch and though the same thing. Between lackluster combat and the (for me, anyway) insane amount of grind, I didn't last more than a few weeks before canceling the sub.
A few weeks? You probably didn't even experience the promoted job combat. The combat in this game changes drastically every few levels once you unlock after 30 and gets faster each time
No I cannot move fast enough and it always is a sub par experience for me as a result. I am also unable to use the right skills because I'm trying to dodge and do other silly dances around the place. All in all it is a frustrating experience for me. I am also convinced that in trying to move and block and dodge I am also performing below my optimal level and am therefore a lousy team mate. In the end it is just too hectic and stressful and one I cannot enjoy and have fun in.

You're a special kind of troll to not be able to realize that it is impossible to RUN OUT OF SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T EXIST.
They CAN run out of server space, but saying they ran out of digital keys is stupidly worded.

Guess that depends on your version of "not boring"

Not an action combat MMO, it's tab target.
