Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
Sure if story is what one wants then it's a ok game, not my cup of tea environment wise, thing is, playing to me means just that, playing, killing chit, taking down what at first seems to be impossible to defeat, but with a bunch of other highly skilled players the impossible becomes possible, the harder the kill the higher the high afterward.
I've never watched a cut-scene and then walked around for days on end with that high can't wipe the smile off my face, that feeling of satisfaction of a job well done, all the hard work, practice, has payed off.
That's the differnce i'm talking about, and the super long cutscene sessions just don't do it for me i get restless af and want to kill shit!! lmao
I sit there and scream at the game PLEASE JUST LET ME KILL SOMETHING FFS, JUST ONE F'ing mob to tide me over while you bore the f out of me with all this tedious fcking fruity tutti fairy dust bs, my gawd wholly F!!!!
See, just even thinking back to it, i really do not know how i lasted as a long as i did, i think it was all based on it's just gotta be over eventually which, NOPE squeezed in 4 more cut scenes teehee
I mean f man i remember spending an entire night of my gaming time watching cutscens, not fun, and was the end of that waste of time for me. It's not a skill based game, well it's a console game so can't be ofc, but if the environment suits and anyone loves story telling yeah, i can't knock it there, and best watched through a console on a tv where you'd watch movies and tv shows, may as well be comfortable on the couch.
Me, i'll be playing on my pc Grrr Sov you know how to rile me up my dude lol

I was all razzle dazzle'd by FFXIV years back too and after the flash wears off you start to realize just how weak the game is at the core.
My Advice, have fun while it lasts.
Couldn't that be said about World of Warcraft?
I mean, I find World of Warcraft, besides being too silly, dreadfully dull.
Little text boxes over a character are such a subpar way to tell a story. If there is a story to be told.
Cut Scenes allow for the characters to be more vibrant and the scenes to be more alive.
I get what your saying though. A lot of mmorpg's want you doing very little and they just create a relay race. Collect 3 of these. Now kill 2 of these.
So a player spends a lot of time just running around instead of "doing" anything.
Still, for those people who player Final Fantasy 14, they are probably playing it for the visual world and the story.
And if a mmorpg is going to have a story, I'd much rather listen to a cut scene and experience the characters than read a little bit of text over a very static character.
Though it's my understanding that World of warcraft has tried to make their characters a bit more alive here and there.
The problem with cutscenes is they add a ton to the download...i looked at ESO not long ago and the download for the game was at 100 gigs....Thats alot.....THe cutscenes do nothing for me and I just hit ESC or whatever key takes you out of the cutscene...TO me it is just a waste of space...I want to be entertained doing my own thing in MMOs, not being entertained by cutscenes. Some of these games have so many cutscenes they can actually make a movie out of them.
Disappointed with TBCC also i installed FFXIV and have now played couple of tens of hours only to find out the exact same reasons that make me to avoid retail WoW are present also in Final Fantasy 14:
- Very easy and linear questing. You gather up every quest you can see on the map, then look at the map where they are suppose to be completed and figure out the fastest way to do it. No need to read story or watch cut-scenes. You either find some mobs marked with "Q" or objects sparkling on the ground. Rinse and repeat.
- Dungeons are aoe-fests, just like in retail Wow. You queue up for a dungeon and everyone teleports inside when the group is formed.
- Very little skills and abilities. The pruning is real.
- Fast movement. You can teleport to everywhere. There are boats and flying ships but why bother - just click on the map and you travel instantly to the destination. Boring.
- The world is heavily instanced. It's hard to get the picture of your surroundings when the zones are divided to such small pieces. This could have been helped with a good mapping system but unfortunately the map is very confusing and most of the time doesn't help at all.
- Combat has no weight whatsoever. It feels like mobs were made of card board. There's no spell pushback so casters have no reason to try to keep distance to melee mobs. The fights are dps races which the mobs can't win, unless you accidentally pull a mob much higher than your level.
As a positive i have to say gear looks absolutely beautiful and i can see why some players play only for getting cosmetic stuff. For me, that's not just enough. The world looks awesome and is full of details but the game design doesn't encourage to exploration, which is a real shame.
One of the better MMOs out there but unfortunately belongs to the same league with the rest of the fast-food MMOs. I'd rather play classic WoW on a fresh realm. Please open at least one.
So far I've resisted simply because I hate chocobos.

Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
For me it comes down to one simple choice, do i want to play, or watch cut-scenes?
My Advice, have fun while it lasts.
WoW has tons of cut scenes and on-rails questing. I just leveled a character up through Exiles Reach and then Zuldazar and then on to Shadowlands proper. There are cut-scenes the entire way. Once past Chromie time playing other areas feels disjointed. The entire crafting setup is a completely disorganized mess. If all you want to do is raid then it still offers something, but it's no secret many WoW players are unhappy. Blizzard knows it too and isn't really sure what to do about it. https://massivelyop.com/2021/06/25/wow-factor-would-you-like-to-take-a-survey/
I started a couple alts during the phasing in to the new raid and BFA is such a great place to level, yes some cut-scenes but just the right amount, nothing even close to the amount in ffxiv, wow nailed it, not too much, not too little, ffxiv is way too much for me, not saying others should not enjoy it if that's what they like.
Yeah the chromie was disappointing as they would have made great questing experiences. However a new player coming in will go Reach, BFA, and then SL, where if i was just still a solo player, i'd probably be playing way more SWG:L than i have been lately.
But to a new player it's all a very impressive ride till you run out of content in SL for a solo player, that i will not argue, BFA was a solo'ers dream, SL not so much, more like a raiders dream, which i hear from the guild, i've never raided wow until CN. As far as i can tell there hasn't been any mass exodus, there are still so many people playing.
Wow has been around for 17 years, its had no competition, ever! If ffxiv is even competition as it's on a console, free, so many things making it appear that way. This is by far the best thing to ever happen to wow though, a good hard swift kick in the ass has been needed for far too long, as they say, all that has happened is they woke a sleeping giant.
Fasten your seat belts wow players cause we are in for one wondrous wild ride, damn this is going to be an amazing time to be a wow player.

Well, I think that's sort of the point.
Some of these games are going toward heavy storytelling and the best way to do that is to have vibrant characters that seem alive.
The other end of the spectrum are mmorpg's that are more of a world where the players are the ones who give it life.
At this point I sort of prefer the latter (and probably always have) but if I am going to have a story I want to have it done right.
Not static npc's with text boxes where I turn in some quest, get xp and then pick from the appropriate reward.
Just so dull for me.
I'm much more leaning toward survival games as a preferred style of game. Only wish they had larger populations.

I was interested in the brand due to playing previous games in the series, I purchased it because it was on sale on Steam and stopped playing because I didn't get a sense of adventure. There wasn't anything to discover outside of the quests. A lot of games reward you for going off the beaten path or just looking in the nooks and crannies. Here, it's all the same. Just quest and that's it. Was boring to me.

Definitely a matter of taste. I prefer to be snatched out of the in-game world as little as possible. Even if that means not having cinematics (which are admittedly fancier). My favorite is voice overs inside the game world, GW2 style.
I actually like how guild wars does it. A lot of Asian games have the same "cut away and then just seeing two characters (or even just a 2d face) addressing the character.
I love Guild Wars 2's painterly style.

I laugh when I see people talking about streamers. You watch people play a game that you are playing and want to be good at . And then those who PAY A FEE to watch some one play a game that you want to play and be good at. I mean, you get it right? YOU ARE WATCHING SOME ONE DOING WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. Like watching porn I guess ?

Actually, you don't get it. Watching someone play a game is a spectator activity. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with wanting to play a game you want to be good at.
Though it's possible that people want to get tips and tricks and see how people do things.
I mean, based on what you said, absolutely NO sports games should ever be watched.
Nor should one watch golf. Or watch racing. or watching people hang gliding.
Or heck, playing poker, or skiing, or basically anythign where what is happening has some interest.
And I guess you watch porn so you can improve your technique? Perhaps re-think that one.

Base jumping, now we're talking....
Actually, other than when I was a kid to early high school, I really didn't play any video games.
When I got to college I'd sometimes play one of the Arcade games on campus but that was it.
Then many years later, when I moved to Boston, I STILL didn't play video games but would watch one of my roommates play them on his awesome computer! Wow who knew! I'd watch him play Doom, Doom II, and the first Warcraft. It was very social and a lot of fun.
There were a few times he'd go home for the weekend and let me play but that was rare and I still wasn't really "hooked" on video games.
But then one Saturday evening, after composing and before Mystery Science Theater came on, I was rifling through some of the disks that came with my new used computer and found a battlezone game. Played for 5 minutes and I was done.
Still, what was this Myst game ...
I remember being jerked to awareness with the birds yelling at me that I'll ruin my life!

As soon as I saw this article I knew there was going to be some airhead talking about Asmongold in the comments.
Stop that shit. Asmongold didn't fucking bring in every single new player. People who keep saying this really push the toxicity that is fucking Twitch and the streaming world in general. Believe it or not, the world is more than just Twitch.
It may have brought some people, but you're fucking lying to yourself if you think it brought every new person.
