I'm sure others have noticed, but I am curious to know why the comments on Blizzard stories are turned off? There are plenty of other stories that explode into arguments and are left alone. Why are we suddenly being censored?
There was already another topic about it that got locked.
People on this site can't seem to talk about it without it turning into a toxic masculinity contest.
Isn't that true with just about every topic on these boards? You have some people that do nothing but post negative and toxic garbage. Why draw the line with Blizzard?
Holy shenanians read the top response on Mike Morhaime tweet, the article MMORPG here closed comments.
Blizzard probably gonna take a hit for this one. Deff not a classic social network accusations drama, it's all over the place with even current lead devs protesting their own company oof
You should realize the very constitution supports free speech and does not adhere to censorship. However this is considered a PRIVATE venue but still just because your private doesn't make unconstitutional actions correct even if the various rights outlined within the constitutions do not carry over to private venues.IMO it is either right or it is wrong.
The very poster above "used the term "negative"so in essence he himself is supporting censorship.Typically people only want to see what THEY want to see otherwise they complain and point fingers.I am no different,if i feel something is wrong i will say so and don't care who takes offense.
There is a reason why we have a constitution and laws,it is because people want to formulate THEIR own agenda so we need to keep people in order. It is the same reason this site too kthe action it did,it wants to CONTROL an outcome, weather that is correct or not is up to debate>>>free speech.
I like to use reasoning to deduct an answer and i have a lot of years of experience with game engines and dissecting what developers could be achieving to determine value and effort put forth.I have also worked around an extremely wide array of people,so i know what people are like when comes to topics of opinionated issues. As well my various jobs take me to new work zones and sometimes for long periods of time so yeah i have a VERY good opinion on what it is like within work areas.
I know full well what is going on in workplaces to determine the accuracy of an article and what is being stretched a bit and how serious the complaints are or if they are leaning more to a a cash grab.I made a comment on the original thread as such stating that i believe BOTH sides are not telling all the truth or letting on to their true agenda.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

There were too many people with extreme views, too many rules were broken, and we were causing moderators too much work.
MMORPG.com closing these topics is our fault. Just accept it and let it be.
My ActiBlizzard boycott ended with the end of Blitzcheung's ban, and that saved me from the Warcraft 3 Reforged trap. Shame I'll now have to renew it when they're about to release Diablo 2 Resurrected.
There is a large number of people (we know who) that has an axe to grind with the ideology and movements like MeToo an BLM.
The outcome is this mess, every time something happens people will go on the attack trying to remove credit or waive it off as "woman telling lies".
It's what it is, some people truly believe that our current reality is already one of equity and that groups fighting for minorities are hypocrites.
Sad state of affairs I think we live in, denialism of every inconvenient truth.
Ultimately, the problem with publicizing accusations is that reputations are irrepairably ruined whether one is found guilty or innocent in court - they've lost in the court of public opinion.
And it isn't just people like me on the left who do it, contrary to what seems to be the popular opinion. Whenever some minority is on trial for a violent crime, I'll hear my conservative relatives prematurely declare them guilty. It's just unfortunate human nature that inbuilt biases cloud judgement, and one can only hope that the judge/jury are more impartial.

And that is the doubled edge sword of it all.
If when things are kept internally things keep being swept under the rug, it usually takes a scandal to make something change. The same way it usually takes the cost of human life to bring awareness, change mentalities and have action done upon things.
When what happens within the company is properly criminal behavior, when we talk about crimes it should not be a company policy making "justice", that on their interest is just to settle something quietly.
It's a broken system ain't it, they should be forced to disclose to authorities internal complains/disputes that one can be charged for.
I think stopping us talking about this is because the site wants to keep in step with other media outlets. We do not represent the site, but having the article without comments gives MMORPG.com the look of cheerleading the issue. The fact this is about allegations, not something proven in a court is "justice" by social media, something we should all regard as very dangerous indeed.

That's not it, as far as I can tell. They allowed comments on just about every post at first, and then people started getting... volatile. It's not because people posted their opinions in a well thought out or nice manner.

I agree that some of the posts went overboard from what I would consider acceptable, but would a warning not be more appropriate? Also a first post by a staff member warning that posters will be warned or get a temporary ban?
These articles do seem to be treated differently to others, there must be a reason for that and I notice it is always articles about politically correct issues. If a poster goes bonkers on an article about New World launching, as they have the thread does not get closed.
Every forum, every social media platform has people who object to what others say, I just realised someone might object to my use of the word "bonkers". Meanwhile posters actually troll to get a reaction, it is a minefield with no obvious best practice.
So it is tricky issue, I don't think my suggestions will solve it, but I think if they put some thought into how to handle this better they might come up with something.

It doesn't work.
If you moderate individually this sort of topics you'll end up accused either of being a filfhy liberal or a right wing extremist. Moderators can't win that one and often escalates (even reddit gave up lol), cause DIS IS MURICA™ and mah freedom™ of speech™

You have a point there, but that's an argument to never pick out individual posts and discipline those involved, which they definitely do elsewhere. How about that staff post saying, "the thread remains open as long as you don't go of the rails"? Of course we will have posters who do that on purpose then, but its an idea.
i have to off for the evening, not ignoring anyone's replies.
I can understand the staff shutting off comments on those articles. Its a rather controversial topic, causes many overly impassioned posts, and some responses will probably be insulting to the staff here as well.
I also find people seem to get the 1st amendment a bit wrong.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
They key being the very first word "Congress". Not MMORPG.com, facebook, twitter, or whatever other organization you want to put in there. Only congress is prevented from impacting a persons freedom of speech.
MMORPG.com can moderate their forums as they see fit, that's their right.
It feels like they can't seem to stay out of the negative light. Many people disappointed in wow, before that was them talking about how they made record earnings while employees were taking pay-cuts but the CEO got a big bonus (later walked back). I think before that they shutdown the french branch?

Y'all have been here for a long, long time. And you know me, too. We try to give you space to discuss, but for whatever reason some people are insistent on showing their whole ass on the forums on certain topics and ruining things for everyone else. It's beyond your garden variety trolling and toxicity. There's some seriously disgusting stuff being spouted off by some people and we simply don't tolerate that. It's been our policy for longer than I've been here:
Major Infractions
Committing Major Infractions at MMORPG.com will result in an
immediate and permanent ban and account data deletion from the site with
no previous warnings or infractions. There is no room for leniency or
discussion
Hateful Content
Hateful content includes, but is not limited to, discriminating
comments about: race, ethnicity (what country someone is from),
religion, age, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status and political
beliefs. MMORPG.com holds complete and total discretion to decide what
is hateful.
We're not trying to stifle discussion, but we're able to anticipate that some editorial topics will go off the rails immediately and so we shut down the comments in advance. It's no more complicated than that.
