WTF... I leave for a few hours only to return and see the same guy
@Stizzled making stuff up and claiming I wrote things I never did then everyone just rolled with it... Show me where I wrote that another card was "bricked"... I never did...
Read what I wrote again...
"It isn't just that card" <--- I gave you various examples of what other problems people were experiencing in my other posts in this thread.
"Many other cards are having PROBLEMS" <--- Did you not see theother examples of people with a variety of other card related issues and systems shutting down? When was the last time an MMO beta shut down so many people's comps 1 month before launch?
How exactly can I "move the goalpost" when I never strayed even an inch from the subject I was originally talking about? @Stizzled making stuff up again...
Go to
their beta forum and see the variety of cards with issues. The game is
causing people's computers/high end systems to shut down randomly... there's a thread about it...
This was just posted a few minutes ago...
"i'm having same problem, it started the when i playing the game but after uninstall the game still having my computer shutting down randomly... what should i do?"
When was the last time anyone here uninstalled a game and still suffered computer problems because of the game you uninstalled?
You can deny reality all you want amongst yourselves but DON'T claim I wrote things I never did.

I can just see all the guys rage quitting because they didn't have enough hair options.
Seriously, it is important I know role-players in particular will get sniffy at having so few faces.

Just before ESO launched some posters here said they wouldn't play it because you couldn't sit on the chairs in the game (you can now in ESO but not in NW... maybe we'll see that again )
Different strokes even though some of those strokes seem extremely petty to me.

In other news (and just as off-topic in a thread about character creation) NW = massive interest and Crowfall = almost no interest.
Anyone who thinks some posters' (at least a couple) NW slagging in all NW threads isn't about the size difference of that interest hasn't been paying enough attention to the Crowfall and NW posts here these past couple of weeks.
Blatant envy never looks good on anyone.
I just never understand the way people personally identify with "their" games. I mean, I paid real money for Crowfall (Amber backer) and got multiple copies of New World for free (Pre Ordered on Amazon when it was free).
I would love for Crowfall to have blown up, but it was obvious to anyone PLAYING in the beta that the interest just wasn't there. There were 200 people MAX concurrent players at the same point that New World has 200,000
But some people, tying their self worth to the game's success, had to make silly statements like there were actually almost half a million Crowfall players waiting for launch. And that the Bot which was tracking population at launch missed 110 people one one server so all was well with the game.
So yeah, NW has a pretty basic character creator, but everything else in the game looks amazing. And maybe that just proves that since you are tossing armor on your guy anyway and watching their back for 99.9% of the game time, the actual environments matter more to the majority of players. I'd love for them to have a robust character creator... but at the end of the day I think it's a nice to have.

Umm, to me that actually kind of signifies that it's not an issue with the game. Games ALWAYS stress PCs. Without knowing what error code he is getting, it's kind of hard to know what the issue is. Hard drive, Power supply, RAM.... Some kind of virus...

NW is a mobile MMO masquerading as a PC MMO with high end system requirements...
Everything from the character creator, 3 skills, limited progression systems, generic copy paste mobs w/ bad ai, crappy itemization, minimal/lackluster animations is mobile-like...
When I played it, a long time ago, during their still PvP stage, it struck me more as a FPS masquerading as an MMO.
Did they ever put in a jump button? (Dating myself on that one)
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
Those vids were interesting indeed. Couldn't fully understand the tech part but what I got from them was:
1) ownership of the issue is not that obvious according to him. Could be the card, the power supply or Amazon. It seems like an unprecedented issue/ combination of circumstances.
2) he is leaning towards putting the blame on Amazon because they knew this in the alpha and they could have communicated/patched this earlier and avoided the drama for everyone.
I get what he tries to say with (2) but that still does not answer who originally owns the issue. You could say that if this has not happened before it is not obvious who is mostly responsible for putting the correct safeguards. But EVGA sending replacements means they are not confident in pushing away the blame.
I will rewatch the vids. I need some time to grok them, I may have gotten something wrong.
You might also want to have a look at this article and test that zeroed in on the EVGA fan controller going bonkers not just with New World but also with other games. One of the fans, fan 1. essentially can burn itself out by running at 200,000 RPM plus. This can happen at 60 FPS too.
This is the fan that cools specifically the GPU. If you don't notice that this one fan has failed (maybe you're playing with a headset and miss the new quiet) and keep playing the game minus this fan's cooling, this is apparently when your GPU can die.

You didn't write about another card being bricked, no one ever said you did. That is our whole point. We have 0 new reports of any more cards being bricked, which is what this whole thing was about.
Once again you are making things up...
Youin this thread...
"Even ignoring that, none of those posts are about bricked cards."
"Bruce has moved the goal posts. Now it's not about bricked cards, it's about any and all bugs and issues."
"You are now bringing up other issues people are having in an attempt to
show Amazon's culpability. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see
exactly what you're doing."
My first comment on the entire subject was "it isn't just those cards" which is absolutely true.. it's other cards, computer issues, monitor issues etc... How are all those problems not Amazon's fault? If people didn't have serious computer problems like dead cards BEFORE playing the NW beta but did AFTER then how is that not Amazon's fault?

I've already provided more than enough evidence of the other system problems I was originally talking about in my other posts in this thread.
Here's my question. Is NW "bricking" all EVGA 3090 cards? Or all cards for another manufacturer?
If it really was a software issue it should be bricking a good majority of them if not most.
If in fact most 3090 cards EVGA or otherwise actually are running NW without issue it seems likely the problem lies with the inferior quality of the broken cards more than anything else, which is probably why the manufacturers are replacing them without much challenge.
Sure, the broken cards may have worked fine on games which didn't tax them to their capacity but NW might just be the first game to do so, yet still have done nothing wrong on their part.
Maybe those card manufacturers should be thanking Amazon for the free stress testing.

According to the German tech geek I linked, "Igor", it seems to be a special edition of EVGA cards with the "FTW" label that have the faulty fan controller which can kill fans and then leads to killing cards due to a non-functioning fan.
Another game he tested, Anno 1800, which is an older and much less demanding game than NW, does the same thing to those FTW EVGA cards as NW.

It really isn't all that bad: presets instead of sliders but a lot of presets except for body type of which there are just 2.
Good enough that I made a very proper Gandalfian old mage, a Hispanic looking swashbuckler with pony tail and a very attractive red headed woman with lots of freckles.
Improvements always welcomed but nothing I'd fret about.

The character creator is probably the weakest part of the game, although some people may appreciate the extensive range of facial hair available to the female characters, and the various flavors of hag, orc cosplay, and bogan granny faces to choose from.
Yep, people discard games for what I think are silly reasons sometime, no reverse mouse look, no mounted combat, lack of realistic working doors etc.

I was about to go into inverted mouse rant move, until I realized you were deftly setting up the sucker punch. Well done!

I was never a "you have to be able to sit in chairs" roleplayer, but the way MMORPG's ditched just about everything that was there for RP's was very frustrating. We ended up not even being able to find free spaces where players would not coming running by to do quests, looking at you here Rifts. That was a large game, not what I think of as a tiny-MMO, but there were no unused areas, even BDO had those actually.
Faces are something I am sure they can add to easily when they have time, I don't think faces impact on outfits anyway like hair can, so it is not a big ask. Talking of cosmetics, do they have a overlay system yet where you can be wearing a "game stat" set but overlay that with a visual set?

The character creator problem isn't because of the space between your eyebrows, or your face.
They literally have ONE BODY MODEL for everyone. Everyone will be the exact same height, weight, and musculature. You can't make a short character, or a tall one, or a skinny one, or a fat one. You will look EXACTLY like everybody else.
In a game that spent millions in development over years, that is a joke.

I like to play melee characters as large, tall, and muscular builds.
Magic characters tend to be short and thin.
And I frequently create healers as slight blonde women.
