Last year much of the discourse around The Lord of the Rings Online was one where the community didn't feel as though the team was doing as much as it could to communicate with its players. This was completely exacerbated thanks to the extended downtimes last year. However, the recent push with interviews, especially with new producer Raninia, it feels like Standing Stone Games has dome a complete 180 - for the better.

I have noticed this as well. I have also noticed an uptick of new players on the retail server that I'm on and no matter where I go I'm seeing active players. A year ago, this wasn't the case. Let's hope it continues.

People are beginning to see the value in these old games as newer ones don't seem to offer what we want plus most are action oriented and hard to play.

I seem to have been left behind at the station while everyone has moved forward.

I'm quite far removed from LotRO these days, but I wonder whether this uptick in communication is the result of SSG being bought out last year?

It takes a while for new owners to get their heads around their newly purchased companies, so this makes me think that EG7 has spent enough time figuring shit out, have put together a plan, and are now confident pushing the marketing and hype.

At some point, there isn't much lore left and they seem to be "expanding it" to keep the game going.

It depends on what they are expanding. The lore on Sauron dropping nukes in The Shire on a Hobbit killing some Shrews is a bit of a stretch.

It's a game mechanic to add to difficulty of landscape and it is limited to two servers for those who want that kind of thing. You could nitpick every mechanic to say it does not fall in line with lore if you want to, it's a video game. I don't recall anyone in the books killin 10 rats and running fetch quests for people either....

I'm glad to see things get going again on an old favorite. Haven't been playing seriously for a couple years, but I may, someday.

Isn't this like the 8th LI revamp? Seems to me like currency/reputation revamp would be far nicer. Why make it so difficult to get lower level rep and crafted gear that will be useless before you even start grinding?

The difference is this is a video game based on Lord of the Rings. If the lore is thrown out the window then why would I play? If it only becomes a video game then there is many others that do it better.

Yah, this is what killed Neverwinter for me, it was a decent MMO in it's own right, it just was not a D&D MMO, so I didn't see any reason to continue to play it.

I guess for me what killed it was them treating the community pretty badly the free to play change and statements like oh you don't actually own that content even know you paid for it bulllshit was what really irked me i know turbine at the time was a different company so I will give them another shot I have two lifetime accounts and one sub account that I have always kept active. Starting a knew warden tonight.

Well they still haven't changed it, so it's still the exact same situation.

I mean there were lore issues with the classes from the get go.  They have to be given some creative license to transfer the world to a game.

Great interview! Wish there was an engine upgrade, this game is one of my favorites. :)

An engine upgrade and texture overhaul would be the only things that'd truly bring the game back. Modern players want shiny.
Shiny.. and a game that is not laggy and buggy as all hell.
