Yeah, I will wait til it goes f2p like the first game did. Not paying a sub for a game that puts the whole world on the same server.

what's the point of that? If it goes f2p, it failed. f2p is the worst that could happen to a MMO. This is a oldschool MMO. And i don't know what the problem is about a EA game with sub model. This is a small studio in sweden and you get nowhere else in any game this experience. You may not like it but if you like it, it is worth every penny - no matter EA or not. we talking about 50 cents a day - ppl spend more monthly in f2p games with cosmetics shops..

Not making a strong case for f2p equaling failure....

Right, because the criteria for success is how much money a game can extract from its players...
for the makers of most game; I imagine that's generally true.

If a game is not profitable it will make changes to become profitable or be shut down (a.k.a. fail). So, a game staying up and running is a minimum criteria for success. Making more then the minimum to stay live, and to potentially grow the game, would therefore be more successful. This can be accomplished using whatever business model is most suitable for the game/audience (f2p/b2p/sub/whatever).

Saying a game going f2p means it failed is pretty ridiculous. As one example: SWTOR would not be considered a failure and has managed to thrive after switching to f2p.
