Just open a new world, get the content you need and return to your main world. Not too difficult for those that are having a hard time parting their old saves.
EDIT: I've done this method myself and it worked fine.
P.S. Even on your old save, if you drop and pick up resources it will add new recipes. The main problem is if you've explored everything.

Workarounds are all well and good but generally best to follow developers advice in matters such as these.
A lot depends on if you have some new areas left to explore apparently. A completionist like myself would not have left such, but those with more of a hopper nature probably will.
"The new content will be live, but if you want to start trying it out, you'll have to do things like drop any ingredients you have and pick them up again, or to explore entirely new areas in order to access most of it.
"Because everyone's progression looks a little different, there's a good chance there aren't unexplored areas for many, so the team's general advice is to start fresh. "For the best experience, we recommend you to start a new world when you have downloaded the update,"
