I'm more of a "there can be only one" game player, but during my 10 years in EVE, I would take "breaks" to go try the latest new MMORPG or single player title for a month or three, and then return to EVE for another long exclusive engagement.
Of course, I would keep my subs up to keep my training going during the breaks, so I never really left, but definitely was inactive outside of regularly changing my skills when necessary (before they added the skill queues)
That was all in the past though, I let my subs expire at the end of 2016 so it's been almost 5 years since last seriously playing, though I do log in every six months or so to make sure my accounts haven't been hijacked or something.

Hrmm, almost time to check in again maybe.
NOw that Eve has f2p can you just log in and set your skills without having to sub? Or does it not work that way?

I think they reverted to the old way, Alpha accounts can only set one at a time.
Regardless, all of my characters need to train higher level skills not available to free accounts, only those with a sub.

For years it has been private server vanilla Wow. Classic finally came but wasn't handled well by Blizzard imo. I'm back to a vanilla+ private server now with new content. Best Wow server I've ever played on so far, other than it could use more players.
I've always believed Classic+ should have been the direction Blizzard took. #NOCHANGES created every single problem Classic had, and I said this from the beginning.
Over the years, my "go to" backup games haven't been MMOs, they've been ARPGs. Usually Diablo 2 (PoD), PoE or Grim Dawn.
Sadly, given the state of most modern MMOs, my focus has actually shifted towards those games more full time over MMOs.
Between great ARPGs, the release of Diablo 2 Resurrected, and some solid VR titles, my MMO time has taken a pretty big hit.
Nowadays I'm actually flipped from that. MMOs are usually the casual game I go to when I need a break from my ARPG or VR game. What does that say about MMOs that they can be a casual escape?
I play all games casually, whether they are meant to be played that way or not. I change games every few months. Right now I have 3 I'm playing. EQ2, Lotro, and SWTOR. I will jump back on WoW once 9.2 drops at least long enough to do the new story content, then I'm out.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
I rotate a bunch of titles, from DAoC, SWGemu, SWTOR, ESO. EVE and a couple other old titles. Waiting for that new MMorpg that will just grab me again like some of the old games did.

I don't think we will ever see the pre-WoW days again.......I think Pantheon is trying but doesnt seem to be gaining much ground.....I'm hoping it does make it to launch because I am curious if people will play that an EQ1 type of game from scratch again.
ESO is a great title to visit from time to time. Because when you are not playing it you'd miss it and when you do you'd think wtf was I thinking.

Star Wars The Old Republic
Guild Wars 1 and 2
The Secret World
Final Fantasy 14
Diablo 3 (not really an mmo but sure acts like one)
Right now in Guild Wars 2.
But I don't really regard any MMO as my side game. It's not how I play games.
I have a main game - Guild Wars 2.
I have a chill/stress relief game - the Warriors franchise.
I have one or more games at a time for story completion - usually a JRPG.
And then I'll rotate in a game if I just spontaneously feel like playing something different.

Its the virtual world and sharing it with many others that draws me to the genre

Heroes of Might and Magic is a different series of games from Might and Magic. The Heroes games are turn-based strategy games, not RPG games.

It says that MMORPGs have evolved over time to be more amenable to casual play.
