No, I have not played the alpha. I never pay money to play an alpha.
Have you played No Man's Sky? It has multiple planets per star, with multiple moons, and each one has an assortment of outposts, crashed ships, space junk, etc, scattered around. Also space stations. And mineable asteroid belts.
I can build my own dwelling, complete with crafting machines, research etc. And walk to my ship out on it's pad. Fly to another planet, descend through the atmosphere in a fiery blaze, and scan for artifacts, outposts, crashes, etc.
And that is just one star system, there are literally hundreds of them.
I am not attacking you, I was just amazed that there was so little progress.
That's cool Dude. Just having a discussion here.
No, haven't tried No Man's Sky, but I do plan too eventually. The only thing putting me off is the art style. Game is bright, colorful, and vibrant, but it looks a little cartoony. That's the reason I didn't last 6 months in WoW after it released. I've been reading some encouraging reviews about No Man's Sky after they turned it around since initial release, so definitely tempted to jump in. I probably will the next time they have a Steam sale.
I have tried Eve Online. I think I may have missed the opportunity to jump in though. Noobs in that game have a short life expectancy. A lot of "nice, welcoming people" are eager to show you first hand how to blow other people up.
Also play Elite Dangerous on occasion. Even though they have an enormous universe (1:1 scale galaxy I think), it feels kind of empty. I'm also not a fan of many of their ship designs (which I can't actually walk around and explore). Can't stand the mining game play there. Too many "limpets". Who came up with that idea? Ugh. There are also lots of "nice, welcoming people" that are excited to make your noob acquaintance in that community as well. Not to mention, the recent Odyssey release is still struggling a bit. I am rooting for them to sort it out though.
Lots of those "nice, welcoming people" in Star Citizen too. So if I can escape that kind of community in No Man's Sky, it already has an attraction I can't get in other space games.
I would definitely try No Man's Sky then. If you like space games. It is mostly single-player, so no problem with "friendly" players "helping" you. At a certain point, you can start playing with other people, doing missions, etc.
A big piece of it is the building game, you get to mine, refine, and use mats to build your bases. You can have multiple bases on multiple planets and moons.
I tried no mans sky, after they had done alot of fixes, and wow, yeah, you can play it like a basebuilding game, its probably 80percent of the game, and cool, you can get spacefleet to build stuff on too, im not really into basebuilding stuff, so i figured its not for me. but there are different ways to enjoy the game. what really got me, was the way you have to learn words of each language to understand the npcs around the universe, and you are also chasing some interesting main story about something i cant spoil. its extremely "ZEN like" to just explore, find words, and worlds, and just understand the universe around you, while traveling the universe in freely, and you mainstory. also, apparently, i found an egg, that i have grown into a spaceship, so imflying a living ship lol. i would give it a try if if you like science fiction
Asking again about that Squadron XX whatever it is called which is sort of a separate game (or maybe not) is that multiplayer/full loot etc?
Squadron 42 is the single-player episodic campagin set in the same universe as Star Citizen.
So they are doing a PvE and PvP, does anything you get in SQ42 move over to the open world PvP game or is it totally separate?
Squadron 42 is Single Player, PVE only. Don't quote me, but I've heard there are rewards you can earn in SQ42 that can be applied in the persistent universe. Two games are independent from one anther insofar as game play is concerned. I was informed that SQ42 is actually based on a war that was fought many years before the current persistent universe time period.
(My son speaking to his Japanese Grandmother) " Sorry Obaba, I don't speak Japanese, I only speak human."
Greatly appreciate the info on No Man's Sky. Will definitely jump in the next time I see it on sale.
You will not be disappointed. I mess with NMS very casually, and somewhat infrequently, but it still manages to entertain me for a while. If you do feel let down by this one, look around. There's many things to do.
The game does tend to require significant base building and the mind-numbing mining to proceed, but that tends to be a gateway to the next thing to do. Farming; animal husbandry; discovering minerals, flora and fauna; fighting sentinels; find and explore natural cave systems; or just look around and enjoy the views. There's always a challenge.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Funny I am called a troll when I bring these kinds of topics, thoughts or questions in the PVP threads. Ask the same kinda question here on spectrum threads. But when I do it I am called a troll here by some people who don't own star citizen? I also want to add the PvE community I know has a lot of counter-arguments quotes from the devs themself.
Also, marketing states the 890 jump would be fine in hustle pvp environment and I read from someone a former 890 jump who was also angry about his 890 jump had a quote from Chris Roberts
lastly, I would like to know how pictures of the hulk are on-topic but when I post adverting sources about star citizen I am trolling?
even when I give sources and proof people will claim I am somehow twisting words? adverting and quotes speak for themself! Ask me a question and reply to me when I am offline then ban me so I can't respond. Somehow people want to remind me there is some kind of freedom of speech on the internet.
oh, right some game devs along with some star citizen backers, reddit, and non 890 jump owners will claim the 890 jump has no purpose. just a useless role-playing ship.
scroll over to 890 jump for proof on this youtube video!
head over the youtube video " STAR CITIZEN LEAKS IAE Expo and Tanuki " even DG will trash the origin ships for a guy who has no byis

Indeed most conventional notions of traditional MMORPG's are thrown out the window in Star Citizen because it's trying to mimic a belieavable living, breathing universe and stepping away from the usual gamified tropes of classes, levels, skills, talent trees, rng, etc.
There's a lot less abstraction and more fidelity in the little things. Which is one of the main reasons it's taking all this time.
They have one system indeed, but when that system has one million kilometers by one million kilometers by 200 kilometers high of gameplay area, multiple planets, moons space stations it's not an issue.
For reference there's more variety in Star Citizen's crafted single system than a proceduraly generated galaxy with billions of planets that are mostly variations of fewer teamplates colours and textures.
As for bugs and features, @grym is kinda hyperbolating.
All the main core gameplay systems all work at a fundamental level, both pve and pvp quests like Trading, Cargo hauling, Mining, Bounty Hunting, Pirating etc are fleshed out and working. The thing is Star Citizen has a very systemic aproach to it's gameplay and most features involve many other features and systems and has those systems are integrated they require tunning.
As for comparisons with NMS they're not comparable at all since NMS is a procedurally generated single player game with some online options.
What that means is that It's "universe" is generated differently for every player and it's not server authorative.
Which means You are the server, your progress exists for you alone, outpost etc exist for you alone and you can save your game and edit your save as you like. You can add a few friends but that's about it.
As for bugs and features, @grym is kinda hyperbolating.

I have to respectfully disagree with this one statement in your reply Babuinix. When I stated there are bugs in the gameplay mechanics, I wasn't using hyperbole. Yes the core systems are in place, but many of the issues are not caused by integrated features. Allow me to share just a few examples from my own personal experience:
1. When I logged in the other day after 3.15 release to the PU, I went through character generation/customization and entered the game. The first time I looked at my character in 3rd person, I had transformed into an individual of African decent (not that there's anything wrong with that). That was a far cry from the blonde/blue eyed character I created. It's a bug.
2. Telescoping ship ladders are still murdering people. They have been since early Alpha. Not all the time, but it happens. If you don't respawn and make it back to your ship in time, you may lose cargo/money. It's a bug.
3. Quantum traveling from a space station down to a city on the planet still occasionally rams one into the planet surface. Not all the time, it has improved, but again, it's a bug.
4. 30k errors (while much fewer), still occur. Anyone caught with a cargo hold full of trade goods or mining goods loses their investment. I know this is an internet synch issue, and not always the game client's fault, but it still plagues the community. Still a bug.
5. Tried to get into my starter Aurora yesterday. I hit, "Enter Ship" and went thru the animation of climbing inside, only to be spit out the other side. Another bug. It's happened numerous times.
6. People are still reporting that swapping weapons is resulting in dropped primary weapons in the middle of combat. Not conducive to successful PvE or PvP. Another Bug.
7. Not all objectives can be advanced in some missions. Due to needed NPCs not spawning, or they spawn inside asteroids, or they spawn inside a wall so you can't complete the clear the base / 890 jump mission.
Please understand, no one is rooting harder for CIG (and all those other space games) to succeed. I'm a huge fan. The graphics alone (how bout those clouds huh?) are spectacular. I've never seen anything like it. I know there is a lot of tweaking still to be done, it's an Alpha. I get it. But to claim bugs aren't an issue is just a wee bit disingenuous. Like I said, it's getting better, but it is in no way perfect.
My intent in my original post was to contribute in some small way to shed light on some misconceptions about Star Citizen. It's not a scam, but still has a ways to go in it's development.

I tried to add the twitch source but it didn't look good above besides the second video has Chris Roberts stating you can get the F8 lighting once completing the sq42 game.
However, in such a world there cannot be significant vertical progression and competitive gear has to be really freakin' easy to obtain.
A full loot open world PvP game where noobs have 100 health and veterans have 10000 health is a non-starter.
If they do this right they could be HUGE.
How does level progression work and what are they going to do about the whales who will expect something for their money?
there is no level progression, progression is through reputation gain. a gun is a gun is a gun, there will be some weapons/armor that may be rare to find but will mostly be cosmetic differences. player skill will be what determines the winner in a battle.
Full Loot PvP I think only works for most people if the gear they can get by on is easy to replace. If not, it may well become a niche game and definitely count me among the missing. Homie don't do PvP well at all.
that is exactly the way it is. gear is easy to replace. you can go into a bunker mission with a flight suit and pistol and come out fully armored with suits to spare and half a dozen weapons.
I think that's a clever set up, "don't like open world pvp, play our solo game instead...oh and now you have a ship in open world". I still doubt it will be fully open world though, safe zones or some sort of tagging is more likely.

what about special,
concierge, or expensive gear if stolen? how is that going to work in the future? gear you bought for real-world cash just wondering.
People are afraid of me on the spectrum why because I am an expert on star citizen almost. It was my hobby until game devs and some non 890 jump backers touched my 890 jump ship.
yes, I m mad about star citizen archives getting deleted. why so people don't call me lair or claim I twist words.
according to dg 360 star citizen made 4 million profit this year. This kinda puts my mind on rest for star citizen. however still upset over my experience and the products I own.

Yes the core systems are in place, but many of the issues are not caused by integrated features. Allow me to share just a few examples from my own personal experience:
I understand your stance, but the way you stated it and within the context you did my interpretation was that you were saying that the new update made it impossible to play/test the game which isn't true.
There is PvE content in the game. Various missions are abundant throughout the Stanton System presently. I hope the missions vary from system to system, but we'll see. Problem is, a lot of the game play mechanics in the Alpha are currently bugged right now, so it's difficult to provide a clear review of that aspect of the game. The ones I've done were fun, but they can become repetitive after a while and downright frustrating when you run into a bug that won't let you complete the mission.
What I said was: All the main core gameplay systems all work at a fundamental level.
As in you can test all the trading, mining, bounty hunting, cargo hauling, investigation, bunker cleansing and so on.
This is a game in active development, another build just came out that changed core fundamental systems of the game. They wiped everything which they hadn't done for a year in a half. Off course it will introduce new bugs and resurface old ones.
This is the cycle when stuff breaks stuff that then gets fixed and iterated within the next weeks. The 3.15.1 iteration will follow then 3.15.2, .3, .4 and so on until they go again to new a update that introduces more new features (3.16) and breaks stuff that will then be ironed out and the cycle continues until they have all the fundamental systems in place and locked.
So the most buggy the game is when a new core update releases. And the more stable the game runs is in the end of the cycle of the update, right before the next core update lands.
With that said, the bugs you mentioned are mostly nuisances or normal growing pains of playing a game at the same time it's being developed. I mean, the way a character looks doesn't prevent any play/testing, ladders and stairs or whatever are mostly dsync and ship geometry issues, QT travelling crashing to planets hasn't happened to me in a year, and I play a LOT, 30k errors now have a safety net, you don't lose your cargo anymore, your ship will be able to be spawned in the latest space station and have al your cargo inside ready to be sold. Swapping weapons, again dsync issues. Ship related issues, choose another ship, another door. NPC doesn't spawn > move on to other quest.
Everyone knows that bug are there and there's issues, that's why it's alpha state. But they are not issues to the ability to test the game and it's core features.
Overall bugs generally follow this basic hierarchy in terms of priority:
1- Bug that blocks other developers from working 2- Bug that blocks certification from passing 3- Bug that crashes/freezes the game 4- Bug that blocks the game’s critical path 5- Bug that hurts performance beyond acceptable bounds 6- Bug that stops major gameplay system from working 7- Bug that stops minor gameplay system from working 8- Bug that is annoying to player (but game is otherwise playable)
9- Bug that looks weird (but game is otherwise playable)
Most of the bugs you listed are mostly server dsync related or that happen only occasionally in very specific circumstances. Mere nuisances that will be dealt with when the real blockers and crashes are done with.
It sucks when they happen sure, it's frustrating beyond belief when you're just trying to have some fun progressing, but that's the shortcomings when playing games in Alpha Stage. In the end all it matters is the testing done and how it helps making future updates. Because everything will get wiped sooner or later once again.
For perspective;
Notice how awfully broken has been the state of some recent high profile AAA games at release.
These games went through Alpha Stage > Beta Stage > Polish > Release > Day 1 Update and still had fundamental bugs and nuisances in them.
Imagine how was the state of those games 3 steps back in the process? Not pretty at all for sure.
But hey, that's why QA testing is a profession and games are taking more and more time to release since they're getting bigger and bigger there's more to test out.
Yeah full body loot, no thanks. That's always a huge game killer. Adios muchachos!
How so?
Because it attracts and brings the worst out of people. Most full loot PVP games failed and even in EVE Online, the vast majority of players either quit when running into it or just avoid PVP like the plague.
So as long as this is optional and restricted to some specific areas of the game. Fine.
If Full Loot PVP becomes active in the entire game and mandatory? Well, then I will sign off as well. Too old to deal with that kind if crap and the horrible people that it attracts.
No worries, at the other side it attracts huge amount of people who like this kind of pvp and loot rules, me including.
Pure and unadulterated nonsense, full loot games have a tiny playerbase, the only one being convinced by your "huge" metric is yourself.

The fireworks when this thing implodes will be visible from space.
Nah, there will be clouds in the way.
Really beautiful clouds though, right?
What gets me is we were called out for not remembering the game is open world PVP, when was that announced ten, maybe eighteen years ago? Sorry but my memory is not that good.
Can I ask if the 890 jump is going to be this useless ship that can't defend itself? Will I be trolled and harassed if I use my 890 jump in a PVP-centric MMORPG game? how is it a fair PVP fight when my digital product can't defend itself? how is Origin ships high-end or advanced as the advertising claims?
I am told that the 890 jump is useless
Not a combat ship
I told the 890 jump can't defend itself
civilian ships should have weak defenses and origins ships are civilian ships.
I bought my 890 jump based on adverting, early game devs, and early stated the 890 jump would be an exploration ship. I don't mind PVP but what I want to do is explore.
have you read the PvE quotes from some star citizen backers? also, there are a lot of picture quotes in the refund star citizen Reddit community of long-time backers upset with the PVP style star citizen has taken.
people on MMORPG claim I am a troll for my thoughts on PVP don't own the game!!!
No one has answered my question about this kind of PVP MMORPG or for that matter any MMORPG that was strictly PVP MMORPG was successful.

but there are different ways to enjoy the game.
what really got me, was the way you have to learn words of each language to understand the npcs around the universe, and you are also chasing some interesting main story about something i cant spoil.
its extremely "ZEN like" to just explore, find words, and worlds, and just understand the universe around you, while traveling the universe in freely, and you mainstory.
also, apparently, i found an egg, that i have grown into a spaceship, so imflying a living ship lol.
i would give it a try if if you like science fiction
edit: it also fully supports vr
