Last week community manager Luxendra responded in a thread asking for server merges with a definitive "they are on the horizon", without giving too many details on how soon players can really expect them. This week, information was provided with the first step in the path to server merges, which is to test a server merge on the Public Test Realm (PTR).

This could break what is left of the population. They way they are handling territory control is very very bad. They are going to just take control from one group and give it to the other server. Even if the one losing the PC has owned it from day one and defended it dozens of times, poured their blood, sweat and tears into building it up and defending it. In return they will be given 50k. An amount of coins that many single characters have...

At this point more people quitting doesn't hit their wallet, might even be a positive.

Many will come back after the restart servers are announced.

It's not just this the "balance changes" are bloody atrocious.......guess I will just join more of my company to other games like Lost Ark or so...

So, I play NW with my brother on one server. He is covenant and I am marauder..... I wonder if there is a chance we will get separated to different servers? Then we won't be able to play together or will have to start all over again. Hmmmmm...... not good.

No that not what they are saying.  They wont separate people from one server to multiple different ones.

They are saying they wont merge two servers being dominated by purple together instead they will merge serves to try and give all three colors equal footing competition wise.

They will do this by looking at over population of each faction and how active those populations are.  Nothing was said about sending or breaking up one server to multiple different ones.

IS this going to be a constant thing? People come and go constantly in MMOs...IF they are trying to balance sides, good luck with that.

Is there a way to do a merger so that no one loses their territory? How would that work exactly?

"The team believes that, despite a few ongoing problems with the server transfers, the team was able to learn some lessons in how to handle these issues in the future."

This is the only mention in the article of the fact that transfers did not solve everything last time, considering what happened let me predict now this will not go well. At the very least they will have to delay server merges as problems arise on the test server. Meanwhile gaming journalists refuse to comment on how checkered using transfers has and always will be a solution to anything. Long term of course transfers will solve issues but this journalistic acceptance every time NW says transfers are going to be a swift solution and here will "incentivise underdog factions" is baffling.

Have we reached the stage were gaming journalists might as well just do a heading and provide a link? I am not just talking about this site, this lack of opinion with a piece now seems a standard way of reporting for many sites.

Why would they come back? Please tell? Why would I bother to come back?

Its still the same game, same flaws and issues and within 2 weeks these new restart servers will have the same problems as the current Live servers.

These Devs are so clueless and incompetent. Nothing they do will ever fix this mess of a game.

It seems that it was the best of times has become it was the worst of times. But that's the funny thing, given sufficient time MMORPG's change more than any other gaming genre, so it makes sense to me too look again in a years time. It still may not be for me then, but taking another look is hardly going to be a time sink.

Nope.  That's why I raised this concerns weeks ago.  That said,  there ARE ways to do this in a more fair manner.  Right now they just keep 1 world intact and the other world gets shit on.    Instead, they could:

    • Transfer both to a blank slate world and let all sides start with an even chance at claiming the town.  This would still negate all the work that went into building it up, but it's better than the current proposal.
    or
    • Allow the company that has most developed territory to be the one to keep it, regardless of which server (merger or mergee) owns it.

Neither are perfect, by far... but either is better than screwing one entire world.  But it's not really my job to find the solution to the problem they created.  One would hope that before they launched all these worlds they had an actual well-thought plan on how to merge them that didn't ruin half the population's gameplay.  Like many of their decisions though, it seems half-thought out.

I bet they'll end up having to reset servers once a faction takes it over, like PoTBS does.

Once enough ports are taken by one faction, the map resets and the losing factions get a small boost at the restart.

from there track record i anticipate alot of problems along with the ones already pointed out ..

      Missing items/gold/gear/dupes/faction/Guilds/Guild coffers/Tax systems..etc..

I dont see anyway they pull this off without a host of problems ..

That is certainly true, when the devs working on said MMO are actually competent, have a clue and know what they are doing. Making things better, not worse.

Naw in all the AGS fuck ups this isn't the biggest or that important.

Starting with a blank slate like you say would indeed fuck over everyone equally and cost them gold.

This way the "partner world" and I will assume this is the world with the most people in it doesn't get screwed over and the world with less people get some gold as compensation instead of a tough shit do it over.

Only thing companies that lost a town need to do is declare war to try and get it back.

TBH this is just a fart in the wind.....all their BS "balance passes" are what is going to  make people leave...they keep nerfing shit instead of closing down exploits and fixing the tons of bugs.......lets not even mention the stinking slap on the wrist exploiters get....

How can they make out sever transfers and merges are some kind of complex, second coming, dark magic affair that is groundbreaking. Its basic stuff that has been performed as a matter of routine for decades.

I agree but I think the main issue may now be will they just pander to players as a response to players being so annoyed at the launch. That is a real danger, the mini map shows that. We know MMOs can be too generalist trying to please all players, that could well happen here.
  • olepiolepi Member EpicPosts: 3,017
I don't see how this can work in the long run. Once the new server is running for a while, it will get unbalanced again. So do they re-merge again? And then do it again later? And then later?
