I don't see how this can work in the long run. Once the new server is running for a while, it will get unbalanced again. So do they re-merge again? And then do it again later? And then later?
These server merges are not being done primarily to balance the factions, they are being done because the server populations are dropping, trying to balance the factions is just something they are doing since they need to merge servers anyways...
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Logged in today just to see. When I mostly stopped playing about 2-3 weeks ago, WW was the busiest territory on our server. Logged in today, after lunch on a Sunday, and while I was in town long enough to craft and run around, I saw no more than 5 people. Not a single person chatted in chat. It was quite shocking. I played for over 3 hours and visited three different territories. I saw less than 20 people total, no a single chat messaged populated in my chat and everything was empty.

I wish I had exploited the hell out of the game, gotten stupid rich in it from all the exploits. All I would have suffered would have been a 24 hour ban and, well, I stopped playing on my own for a coupld of weeks now. 24 hours would have been nothing.
Man, I really wish I had cheated since Amazon isn't punishing the cheating exploiters at all.

I remember early days in GW2 top guilds just steamrolled over everyone so naturally people gravitated towards those servers. Other servers never really had much of a chance since cooperation doesnt really exist. How do you stop people wanting to join the winning side?
It gets worse... they have on the test server major changes to crafting exp... if you aren't 200 max level already... you are screwed (massive time and gold increase sink).
I'm on a dead server (about 50 players asside from the 1 peak hour people log in to do the daily and check their auction house stuff... then it gets to 100 players)
... so I can't even buy the ingredients to level crafting before the changes... I've been farming like crazy. I can't physically farm enough of the higher tier ingredients due to RNG ingredient drop system and distance to get from one resource node to another.

If its accurate, it will hurt. I guess we shall see once official notes are dropped. The question is what will the overall balance look like but that's still a significant increase (43k to 176k).
Datamine... Yeah ok.

This could break what is left of the population. They way they are handling territory control is very very bad. They are going to just take control from one group and give it to the other server. Even if the one losing the PC has owned it from day one and defended it dozens of times, poured their blood, sweat and tears into building it up and defending it. In return they will be given 50k. An amount of coins that many single characters have...
Want to see more people quit?
Take away their home with no recourse.
Is there a way to do a merger so that no one loses their territory? How would that work exactly?
Nope. That's why I raised this concerns weeks ago. That said, there ARE ways to do this in a more fair manner. Right now they just keep 1 world intact and the other world gets shit on. Instead, they could:
Transfer both to a blank slate world and let all sides start with an even chance at claiming the town. This would still negate all the work that went into building it up, but it's better than the current proposal.
or
Allow the company that has most developed territory to be the one to keep it, regardless of which server (merger or mergee) owns it.
Neither are perfect, by far... but either is better than screwing one entire world. But it's not really my job to find the solution to the problem they created. One would hope that before they launched all these worlds they had an actual well-thought plan on how to merge them that didn't ruin half the population's gameplay. Like many of their decisions though, it seems half-thought out.
Naw in all the AGS fuck ups this isn't the biggest or that important.
Starting with a blank slate like you say would indeed fuck over everyone equally and cost them gold.
This way the "partner world" and I will assume this is the world with the most people in it doesn't get screwed over and the world with less people get some gold as compensation instead of a tough shit do it over.
Only thing companies that lost a town need to do is declare war to try and get it back.
TBH this is just a fart in the wind.....all their BS "balance passes" are what is going to make people leave...they keep nerfing shit instead of closing down exploits and fixing the tons of bugs.......lets not even mention the stinking slap on the wrist exploiters get....
I can only speak from experience and advise that a huge chunk of my Company will quit if we are the transferee. These folks held Everfall from the very first WAR while I was stuck on another server. They built it up and have fended off countless attacks. Even when the hatchet exploiters went rampant, Everfall was held against all odds. They make 300k a week from taxes. If the town is taken away I see most just walking away.
I do not think that is a special case. In most PvP games, attrition kicks into high gear when people lose their territories. Losing it like this... far worse than losing it in battle.

It's setup in clusters of 4. So it is designed for 2 levels of merges. I'm sure they can go father than that, but that risks players having 2 characters in the affected servers.

I've been on the test server and it's real.
Not only that but the gathering yield is lower and the gold per quest has been nerfed severely.
I've played a lot on the PTR starting at level 2, level 16 and 60 which are the 3 options. The beach and early town quests that used to give 40 or 50 gold so that by the time you got to town at level 6 or 7 you typically had ~ 300 gold, now give 4 or 5 gold and you're lucky to have 20 or 30 by the time you hit the town.
At level 60 quests that used to give 100 or 200 gold now give 40 or 50. About the only quest gold rewards that were not nerfed are the main quest story line which I checked out with my level 16.
Both the trade XP and the general XP you get from crafting things is lower.
Some changes are quite good though with more mob variety with different AI moves you run into quite early, a few extra quests, good changes to some of the main story quest steps and locations.
The void gauntlet is interesting although not nearly as powerful as a secondary healer weapon for soloing as I thought it would be. Doesn't help that the Lost you run into at the beach and throughout the early zones are all resistant to void. The summoned blade and all the short range skills on the left side are good and synergize well but the ranged stuff on the right side is very meh.
Life staff nerfs are also very noticeable and not just when wearing heavy armor. When wearing light the extra 30% healing (up from 20%) doesn't make up for it.
The extra trade skill grind and less gold is a head scratcher when they're bleeding players. If they think the mass exodus is all about getting to 60 and maxing trade skills too quickly they're in for some surprises when they see player reactions to the extra grind.
Lots of trial and error in their development still and kudos for them for the trying but they seem to be "fixing" the wrong things.

I did not want make another thread... but end game housing trophies (which give you major luck increases on crafting/gathering/loot) are now being exploited to mass craft them and flood the auction house (either duped or chest exploit to get the drops insanely fast).
For those who don't know, trophy grind is very very time consuming. Trophies are desired by most players, so they sell for a lot. The markets are being flooded with them... prices have dropped 50K gold to 3K gold in just a few hours on some reported servers.
They never fixed 90% of the problems/issues and bugs/exploits we reported in early testing stages. We told them time and time again how many flaws there were with the core systems of the game. They didn’t care. I was hoping I would be wrong but with how incompetent the team has been throughout testing it’s hard not to be taking some pleasure in watching it come back to bite them.
They could of had something truly special with New World but the more they tried to cater to the masses and please everyone the more it fell apart.

There are still plenty of servers with healthy population, but there are also servers with so low population that they really need to be merged.
