Kakao Games is taking over publishing for the ArcheAge franchise, and now there are full details on how to make sure your characters get transferred over to the new server. There's also news about ArcheAge: Unchained, which is going to be a subscription game.

    As for ArcheAge: Unchained, there's a surprise in store. While the initial new publisher announcement emphasized that both games will continue to exist separately to give players their desired experiences, ArcheAge: Unchained will now come with a subscription fee. This announcement comes with reassurance that all cash shop items from the start of the Kakao Games takeover will be cosmetic only. To support removing any pay to win chance, the monthly sub will cost $9.99 a month.

    Only matters if you have a new fresh start server, otherwise the damage is done.

    Well that sucks monkey balls!!! I only played unchained due to the one time buy in. As someone who views the game as a farming sim with pve and pvp thrown in, I guess I'm out. I'm not paying a sub to plant crops and raise animals.

    I'm wondering about this as well. Maybe they will let Unchained players switch to the f2p servers? But it still sucks since people bought in to unchained because it would be a one-time buy like yourself and free of the p2w. So now they have to either continue to pay or potentially go to the p2w side. They honestly should have stuck with the b2p model with an additional optional sub. It kind of feels like they are trying this out to see who bites and then switch back to b2p later.


    "Be aware that Gamigo's servers will only keep play data saved through the November 18th maintenance, so if you play between November 19-December 1st, none of that data will transfer over to the Kakao Games server."

    This just makes it sound like its pointless to play until December 2nd.

    Q. When will the servers open?
    Both ArcheAge and ArcheAge: Unchained are scheduled to open on December 2, 2021. We will also be opening our Fresh Start Servers for both on December 2, 2021.

    Seems I ..quoted myself and can't delete it. Oh well, this stays like this it seems! :)

    It is an interesting move and shows the lie of those who say subscription is dead. They intend to only have cosmetic items in the cash shop, but the MMO will have items carried over, I assume which were P2W. Even so it is showing that the only way to fund a MMO is not P2W and gambling.

    Apologies for laughing, but it's naive to think their model will stay the same. 

    Regardless whether Trion or Gamigo published it, Kakao was always calling the shots on how it was monetized.

    It's changed several times before, no reason to believe their promises now.

    Most definitely not a testament to the subscription model, which in it's traditional definition does not include a cash shop, cosmetic or otherwise.

    Calling it now: cash shop will still be pay 2 win. Unchained was supposed to be the apology of the cash shop being an issue and yet they still blatantly didn’t follow through.

    Well based on BDO I agree, the P2W was put in when you got to gear grind, but I think until we see it we can't be sure what they will do. That said it makes sense now to factor into every MMO you play be they old or new MMOs that you can't be sure what the cash shop will be like in six months time. What this means to me is (once again) it might be best to wait a few months after launch and see what happens.

    I really enjoyed this game but I was too ambitious and I hurt my wrist from the repeated harvesting of plants. I should have stuck to smaller quantities.

    I played this a long long looooong time ago. Is the Marlin Fishing still as fun as it was in the past? No game has ever duplicated the fun we had with that. And what is the difference between Unchained and the other one other than that sub fee?

    there is no difference with the original if they both have subscription

    yep thats what i was thinking . im all for the sub if it gets rid of the other nonsense though . im happy kakao is taking over maybe somebody will finally get to fixing this game properly

    Everyone begged for a sub model back at release to keep the game as awesome as it was in testing....now they are doing it and everyone is bitching about a sub lol.

    Gonna wait and laugh when they will change the cash shop into p2w after few months. Saying the 1k subs didn't covered the costs. But well people will believe in anything this days. (It's not their first promise they break like this and won't be the last either)
    Enjoy wasting your sub money on a game that will close after a year tops. Since the only people that kept Archeage from not shutting down were the whales. And the only people that kept playing it. Now maybe few nostalgic people will sub thinking it will be better and that's it...

    Don't forget! Bless b2p got shrekt. Astellia b2p got shrekt, went f2p and shrekt. Elyon it's almost shrekt even as a f2p. If it became b2p with that p2w on it's core guess what it would've happen. And guess what Archeage got at it's core. On top of having a bad reputation from the start. All i see it's dead upon arrival.
