It's that time again: the MMORPG.com Player's Choice Awards! Awards season is taking over the games industry, and this is our time to recognize the best (and biggest disappointments) of the year that was.
Comments
Biggest Disappointment: New World.
Best Persistent Online Game: GTA Online
Most Anticipated MMO/Persistent World: The one that launches well and is great.
Most Improved MMO: Really tricky to gauge, can never judge this one.
Best Indie Game of 2021: Death's Door
Best Role Playing Game of 2021: Solasta: Crown of the Magister
Best MMORPG of 2021 - Player's Choice: Lotro
Not sure how a studio is on the list for Biggest Disappointment, this list is surely for game awards not woke awards. Has Valheim launched, there could be EA's in the mix?
If a mediocre game like Deathloop is the obvious GotY winner, it really shows just how slow a year it's been.
Edit: Big morning derp moment on my part. Thought this was for TGA. Anyway, here's my picks for the MMORPG.com awards:
Best BR - Naraka
Best Persistent - Warframe
Most Anticipated - LoL MMO
Most Improved MMO - Umm... FFXIV, I guess
Best Indie - Kena
Best RPG - Tales of Arise
Best MMO - GW2. I mean, I'm going to vote for the one I play, or else it's just disingenuous.

That's new to this industry, and we should be shaming it before it spreads.
Biggest Disappointment: Crowfall
Best Persistent Online Game: Path of Exile
Most Anticipated MMO/Persistent World: Ashes of Creation
Most Improved MMO: Black Desert Online
Best Indie Game of 2021: Valheim
Best Role Playing Game of 2021: Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Best MMORPG of 2021 - Player's Choice: Albion Online
Best Persistent online game still Ultima Online( and I dont think you know what persistent means)
Most Anticipated MMO ..Profane
Biggest Dissapointment New World by a long shot
Most Improved MMO ..LOTRO
Best Indie .. Wildermyth and its 98% positive Steam reviews show the community agrees, one of the highest approval of all time Steam
Best Role Playing .. again goes to Wildermyth , and it's not even close
Best MMO 2021 .. FF14 from that list
If you're talking continued support, then Tibia (or even further, Meridian 59) beats U:O. But You know this is all subjective, right?
거북이는 목을 내밀 때 안 움직입니다

Most Improved MMO
The games you picked for these two categories made me go speechless...
Which part of swtor, bdo or neverwinter improved this year over Albion which had its best update since launch, revamping the whole open world experience and improving all the fucking maps in the game?
And nominating New Genesis which is universality accepted as a fucking disaster and shadowlands for the best mmorpg of 2021... Like really? Book of Travelers, Gw2, Albion, Mortal Online 2 and even New World are better choices compered to those two. And I say this as a person who hates New World.
But You know, there's "other" for You to write, if You'd like, right? No need to go all puffing because the games you'd prefer weren't nominated, regardless if objectively they would be a better fit (they would). It's not a grammy award voting, and your cousing isn't competing i nit either, lol. Sit this one out, please.
Endwalker just released, and half the player base can't even log in. Who knows? But to even have it it as a contender puts your selection process in question. Well that's just IMHO.
Oh, that's right, there isn't any...

You could then argue that New World could win the most improved mmo, even with only the few month of updates so far. But its a cheap shot as it is a game with such a low start threshold, that it should stil be in beta. As such it is the clear winner of most disappointing.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

Why isn't New World a choice for best mmo in 2021? It's not like a AAA mmo gets released every year. Also, why not lead with the question "Best mmo of 2021", instead of hiding it right down at the bottom of the list? Why the seemingly random choices for "most improved mmo? Why did you choose to put BR at the top of the list? Why rpgs are not included in best indie game?
