Heading into the new year, Amazon's New World is gearing up for the future. Since launching in late September, the team t Amazon Game Studios has had a rough go of it. We chatted with Game Director Scot Lane about the troubles the studio has faced, and peaked into the future of the MMO.

"Server transfer: These initially were advertised as a way for players to join their friends who might have stranded thanks to server queues. However, they have left a multitude of dead servers in their wake."
Transfers and mergers create problems as well as solve them, we have known this since dot and the problems are nigh on unavoidable. Good to see that's being recognised here but it was blindly obvious this would not go smoothly.
While I understand the anger of those who pitched in and did not get what they wanted; well people pay for early access (it is beyond me why they do that) and that's what you got here. Give it a year and it may well be a MMO I will dive into.
As to what was reported when...
If the dupes and exploits that came to light in the first couple of months were known before release I never saw those reports and I was pretty plugged in to NW stuff on reddit and elsewhere for a full year prior to release. Never saw them.
That's not to say that the exploits were not there and found prior to release but the info was not widely shared as far as I can tell. Dupers and exploiters were likely keeping them in their back pockets to use after release.
Their public "Bugs AND EXPLOITS" reporting official forum is what caused them to spread like wildfire. How anyone could think that reporting exploits publicly was a good thing I'll never understand lol.
They're currently being more cautious and ask for exploits to be reported by PM but a lot are still reported publicly with instructions.
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

You could even have it calculate total transfers by an individual over a set period say 24hrs. Anything hitting a specified limit would flag a notice. This is just basic database management that any database programmer could set up in an hour.
If the devs are claiming they never put this system in because they had no clue anyone would ever try to dup in their game, this just points to incompetence.
Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
Stop LYING! You don't have one, you are litterally making it up as you go. You can easily tell given the ungodly bad nerf/buffs & then the crafting & expertise change.
"Lane: We’ve come a long way in the past year and I think our players see that...." No you have NOT!. If anything you've gone backwards....literally! You have removed rewards, perks and various elements of the game because they are broken, being abused by bots and you don't know how, when, or if you can address it. You've promised server transfers, then removed them, then added them again. The decision makers have NO IDEA what they are doing. And I am not just referring to the endless amount of bugs, exploits or glitches. I am referring to the patches they are releasing to slow progression royally screwing any new player who wants to start playing. In any other MMO they would speed up progression for new players to try and form a maintainable population. In New World it is the exact opposite.
I have ZERO hope for this game. And any fanboy that defends it is only hurting themselves.
Which Amazon clearly has none.
1 dupe bug, understandable.
Multiple dupe bugs? Please just move on.
I draw the line at CLIENT authoritative mmo.
Seriously what kind of dim wit will allow the slightest client authorativeness on a competitive PVP mmo.
Did they tell some porkies about the dupes, maybe hard to be sure. I remember us questioning the client authoritative MMO when we heard about that, they have had big missteps. I agree that their past performance does not bode well, I just don't think it bodes that disastrously either. They need to keep their nerve and have belief in their vision, that's the part I don't think we can be sure of until early next year.
Well exactly. Its not like the guy is going to release a video of himself being zapped in the wedding tackle by an intern holding a cattle prod, or commit ritual seppuku to make amends. People like to say talk is cheap. In my experience I've found talk can be very expensive. So they can spout whatever flowery nonsense they want and it won't mean bupkis. Its going to take action to prove they can dig themselves out of the deep hole they are currently in. And that's going to take time.

Ooooh hot take, someone who is never impressed with anything.
Sorry no time to conduct an interview. We screwed up and we're trying to fix that, so now back to work I go.
"we are listening and trying to fix bugs"
Literally nothing else, they wont offer a roadmap because they will need to dump any "future" content the next time they screw up worse than normal to try and pacify the customers.
Definitely dead because some nobody youtuber said it !
Respect, walk
Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?

Yup lol, this guy is smoking some copium like pretty much anyone playing NW at this point.
