When Fate of Gundabad was announced and we knew we were going back into one of the lost Dwarvish strongholds in Middle-earth, Bradford's hope was we would see something really new. And while we don't have a simple retread of the past, Lord of the Rings' Gundabad is giving massive Moria vibes - in both good and bad ways.

I think what made moria great was the labyrinthian design. It's moria! Not an easily navigable safe space.

Then again, I'm one of those "bring back the original old forest" as the new was isn't all that.

I think Moria is the greatest expansion I have seen, so not surprised this one did not come up to that. Great to see Lotro doing such large expansions and it rather begs a question; if Lotro, a MMO not even in the top ten of most profitable can pump these out why can't others making much more money?

I recently started back up with LOTRO. Played at release for a while but got sucked into years of WoW. I am having a blast as a "newbie" in LOTRO. Great community, wonderfully relaxed game play with very immersive settings. The graphics hold up surprisingly well given the age of the game.

Oh I agree, though it was frustrating at the time (and still is to a degree) when running around Moria. I'm glad Gundabad echoes this, but doesn't fully replicate it. It needed to be different enough to not simply be Moria 2.0, and I think the team at SSG accomplished that. It took what was great about Moria, in my opinion - it's scale - and jacked it up to like, a thousand.

The most underrated MMORPG still functioning, and mostly because of graphics whores who cannot see past textures and appreciate the beauty of the design of this landscape. Amazing still today.

I agree but compared to other MMOs that started back then it has aged well, back in the day it looked exceptional but time is never kind. In fact Lotro is still my "Minimum graphics in a MMO standard" for me to play.

And this labyrinth is precisely, why I do not purchase G-bad. Sorry, vast underground mazes where map is of zero use - are just bad. Moria was bad because of extremely hard navigation. Miss one stone - and hurray, you are lost with 50 enemies running after you.
Cannot see what is so much "great" is almost impossible to navigate puzzle.
Imagine situation: flight from New York to Washington. Oh, come on, first fly to Mexico, then to Lithuania, from there to Moscow, then to some settlement in North Pole, from there to Madagascar, then, of course, to visit Venezuela, from it - to Poland (because, why not) to Tokyo, then Australia, then Chile, then maybe 20 African countries and finally Washington.
Such flight is easy, cheap and enjoyable, pure fun and very efficient in terms of time and effort.
