Developer Darkpaw Games released the latest EverQuest II expansion this December, Visions of Vetrovia. After more than six years away from the game, Kevin jumped back in with a new level 120 character. He also had the chance to ask the developers a few questions. The storytelling is certainly on point this go around. Well made expansion so far

How daunting is it to use a boost and play? I have a 110 SK (solo leveled) I haven't looked at in years and the idea of relearning everything keeps me from booting the game up. But some of the expansion stories are absolutely amazing. Not all, but some are really cool from a RPG story standpoint.

I went back last year for the RoS expansion release. I was away from the game for a while (maybe a year or two) and my highest level character prior to going back was around 90. I used the boost on a Paladin and I didn't find it too difficult to pick up. I was quickly able to get into stride with the new content and play through the story line. Overall I found it worth the money and the time invested.

I didn't stick around too long, but the two months or so I played was fun.

I appreciate the comments. Now to decide if any of my toons are worthy of boosting or if I should make a new one. Wish me luck!

I boosted my Channeler for the article and upcoming review. After being away for so long it was just remembering the nuances of the game systems. After about 3 to 4 days I am mostly back up to speed. Since you already have a 110 you should be fine getting back into things.

Once done with the expansion review I am tempted to start a brand new character from Level 1 and play some into the new year. Leveling seems to be pretty quick.

The last expansion i boosted a character and was directed to go into a dungeon that i died over and over in. I didn't get one kill. I was so pissed off i rage quit. Are there new zones for characters to go at all? The game world is just so big and not easy to get anywhere.

I can't address the first part, although I remember each expansion gets a crate of gear that is basically required as it is the baseline gear for the expansion if you have missed time. I remember that from PoP.

The world is HUGE but easy to get around. There are flight paths, horse rides, mage spires, druid rings, and at least a few personal teleports to home and guild halls. These allow you to not only get to different zones, but to a particular area of that zone if you want. And mounts are, if anything, too fast. I turn mine off just cuz I don't like moving so fast all the time.

I hate to be "that one guy" but I could care less about EQ1/2. Where is EQ3? Its been long enough. I know EQ Next and Landmark flopped, but that was because they wanted to go the wrong direction with technology that didn't exist, and a team too small with not enough funding to make it a reality. Knowing your budget and knowing your team are the first steps to creating a game. A dev-team that works exclusively with table top games isn't gonna magically start making an FPS game tomorrow. They can learn, and adapt, but that takes time. And they were trying to create an open world engine that allowed for voxel real world destruction but had zero people on the team capable of creating such an engine....

I just want EQ3, mixing EQ1 and EQ2 in terms of gameplay, the best from both, the best story from both, with a bit of modernization to bring in the plebs who only care about graphics, and we would have a new winning title.
