Such a pity how this has turned out. I have played this on PS5 and its a great game. I never paid $70 for it either. I would wait to see if this gets fixed for PC and in a sale.

Excellently written and comes to the right conclusion.

I bought Nintendo Switch and a retro controller mostly just for this game and the sequels and i have no regret whatsoever.

Some games just don't work on PC but also some games don't work on consoles. Developers should acknowledge this by now. There are metric tons of games i refuse to play because the interface was designed for both PC and consoles in mind.

Took them over an year to fix the issue with the blurry textures on consoles . Yet the pc version gets released with exactly the same issue. Anyone who spends 70$ on a singleplayer game in this day and age is a ... or has no internet connection

The game runs perfectly fine for me at 120.

Are you using a computer built this year? Or some old build from 3 years ago? if you have a $300 pc obviously you will have worse performance than a console that cost $500.

You didn't post any of your specs yet you talk about performance?

No amount of hardware would fix that trainwreck of a graphics settings UI.

The best you can hope is the GPU's settings can bring this game to this decade. No native widescreen? Frame limits?? Dynamic rez forced on?

Sir, your 'argument' doesn't make a turd any less dull.

It plays good to very good on my computer and its pretty old one.

Indeed it happens to have some... stutter in combat, but pretty rare.

What it kinda bothers me, but it might be ..me, its the controls. I'm used to play FF's turn based, rather than action.

I still didn't finish it as I'm taking my time, but ...all in all a very, very solid Remake.

My terrible rig 1050Ti, Rzyen 5 1600 runs this pretty damn well. Not 100% smooth but perfectly playable. Didn't buy the game on PC though and will not ONLY due to being on epic. Just used this copy to test performance for few hours then uninstalled.

This is by no means a terrible port, its not good but not terrible. Now the first release of Dark souls on PC now THAT was a terrible port

FF7 Remake is not on Nintendo Switch. They have a PS1 port of FF7 on switch, as well as "remastered" versions of 8, 9 and the HD version of X, X-2, and Zodiac version of FFXII but current gen Switch is not powerful enough to do this FF7 Remake justice, and would likely have more issues than the PC port the OP is reviewing.

Single player games IMO are the only games (not including mmorpgs) worth anything more than $40-$50 dollars, but ONLY if they are physical games with the full game on the disc. Digital games shouldn't cost full price, let alone $70. As for this port, it will probably be on a big sale by the time they fix it. Patience is king.

The Mouse and Keyboard controls are almost good on this. It will take fine tuning the controls which I have not done yet. The WASD movement and mouse camera control is ideal. Much better than using a Controller.

The main issue I find with the controls is that some buttons are not usable like Esc or Enter. The Default controls are not very good. The Z, X, C, V, B keys should be avoided for mapping as they tend to be difficult to reach with WASD. Personally, I would avoid mapping anything to the alphanumeric bottom row. They also assign keys to the F# keys which can be irritating. Different key combinations may also show up in different sections of the game. There is a mapping for combat, non-combat, and menu navigation. You can pull up a quick menu in combat, and sometimes the menu navigation does not match the combat controls.

For WASD controls, the other most often used keys should be 1, 2, 3, 4, Q, E, R, tab, Left Shift, Left Control, and Space. Secondary keys should be F, G, T, and ~.

I played the initial portion with an XBox Controller. I immediately felt a difference when moving to mouse and keyboard with key remapping. Before I was fighting the controls more. It's very easy to miss details when using a controller verse a mouse and keyboard.

For me the game plays great at 4k 120hz. But I have a RTX 3090. I do notice a stutter every once in a while, but not more than any other game. The level of detail in the graphics is not the best everywhere but is good where it counts. Places that will consume 80% of the screen, and the general color scheme. It's a good lesson on how to present 3D graphics in games for optimization. I think a lot of designers get too caught up in the micro-details that they miss the macro-details like color balance.
