edit- I'm going to be starting wheel of time tonight. I don't play New World, but if did this would be awesome.

This a great way to do a drop.

I've watched them all. I loved Rosamund Pike as Moraine - perfect mix of good and scary as Aes Sedai should be :)

The only people who seem to dislike it are the book lore fanatics. Me? I read the first 7 books but got bored (and confused with the hordes of side characters) many years ago as they were being written and released. I remember just the gist of the early books so I wouldn't know a faithful adaptation if it bit me on the face.

    I really enjoyed the season.

    Have fun!

I actually cast Rosamund Pike as Moraine long before the show. To me she was always the top runner.

I have some issues with the series  but for the most part I enjoy it. For me, I read about 13 of the books. Problem being that as the books started being published further and further from the previous book I would start reading, forget who was who, and would then try to read the series over again from the start. Not a great strategy as that burned me out.

I think, for those who don't like the series, it's ok to dislike or detest things but at some point you either have to just accept that it is its own thing and enjoy it for what it is or just let it go.

But some just have to nerdrage every little bit. Not really worth the energy.

watch the stream to unlock it? i hate this forced watch idea. always did.

in the end all you do is mute the chan and have it running on screen 2 anyway. basically the definition of clickbait... tho at least you might get something out of it in the end i guess

I read them all.  Once.  But will read em again before seaon 2 (if I can find them all)

I gave it a passing grade.. but I think it really never clicked into gear.  My wife who never read the books at all was kind of lost.

I really like Pike and think she was great.  I like the guy playing Lan, although he's much smaller in stature than Lan should be and they have him talk WAAAAAY too much.  Most of the cast is pretty decent but I really just think Egwene is utterly miscast. I was off put by many of the changes to the characters but overcame much of it... just can't get past Egwene.  Also, to be honest... not liking Min much either.

That aside, it seems like a lot of the changes they are making are just for the sake of making changes... and in general... not for the better.  I get the concept that it's going to be hard to take a 14 book (I think I saw it was 12000 pages) series and put it on screen... but maybe that means they should have had a longer season instead of 8 episodes...

I'd rank it well behind The Witcher but well ahead of Shannara.

Waiting to see how they do with Elayne and Aviendha in season 2 (and how the re-cast Matt fits in). Oh yeah, and Lanfear...

If they screw up the casting too much or change the characters too much it might push it over the cliff for me as those are some of my favorites from the books.

Way to forget about the lore of your game to get a cheap cash in on your products. Lore should focus on Earth's history. Sad.

Some of the changes aren't necessary at all, some are horrible, some are very understandable. I have no problem with Min though she doesn't quite look like what's in my head (didn't she have a more knife-like nose?) Egwene is ok but I felt like she could have been better. I liked Perrin and Matt. Too bad they have to replace Matt. Perrin married wasn't necessary. I get why they did it but meh, they could have done it another way.

Nynaeve is a difficult one for me. I think the actress is doing a decent job, I just don't think it's "her."

I think there's a difference between being stubborn and mean and Nynaeve sometimes seems mean.

I'm ok with Lan because otherwise you have an actor just walking around and making faces as the camera. It's not great for the character and not great for the audience. I think Liandrin is pretty good, she really makes my skin crawl. I though Loial was supposed to be taller and more cat like but "oh well." They took some liberties which I understand, like Moraine's relationship with Suan Sanche (sp?.) I mean, the book does call them pillow friends or some such thing. Was that Jordan's way of including a same sex relationship without "saying it" or did he want it to be more like girls over at a slumber party? Too bad we can't ask him. Doesn't bother me either way.

going to watch the last episode tonight. I already know there are things that have diverged from the books, but as I've mentioned, I'm just going to take it for its own thing and not be too judgey.

Funny you say that Iselin. I only read the first 6 books of the series and got bored. I agree, too many side characters to follow. That's why I love the Prime series (so far). They condense the story to the characters that really matters.

So I watched Ramez05's stream and got all the drops......  Doing so while I played New World (New world was muted while I listened to the stream).  I even learned some new things about the game and got to know the streamer as well.   He had some emotional moments as well when he hit 1000 subs only a couple hours into his stream. It was interesting.

However they also force you to watch hours of Twitch streams to acquire them which puts this right back on track for shameless self promotion. If Bezos and Zuckerberg ever manage to conceive a child together, the world is doomed.

You don't have to watch anything. Muted on a back tab at 160p works just fine... and it pads the metrics for their ads just as if you were actually watching which is all they really care about.

Wow. So not only shameless self promotion but also blatant exploitation of the Twitch streamers hard work.

How so? The streamers get a cut of the ad revenues based on both subs and viewers. Whether you actually pay attention to them or just idle their stream on a back tab you count as a viewer and it ups their share.

Not being a Twitch streamer I'm not sure how to answer that. Any streamers here want to chime on how you feel about this?

It's literally like having the TV on in the background.

The metrics report you as a viewer so that channel then goes to advertisers and says "we have x-million viewers during these times. We have ad-space if you want to reach them."

Same with Twitch. They report the total number of viewers, sell off ad space then place those ads on channels that 'do well' (what ever they define that as).

That's why I tend to hit up the sub-500 viewer streams when "AFK Watching". I figure it'll help their channel place a bit higher on the Browse section of Twitch and get them a bigger payout from ad revenue.

Interested in this, I don't rate Sanderson at all but I do rate Jordan. To be clear Sanderson is not a bad author just not as great as his fans make out. I have had outrage before pointing this out. If you had a lot of time between the books following this sort of series can be tricky. It is padding in a way, look at how Tolkien had two threads not the twenty you get in GoT etc. But if the sub stories are great who cares? it does however mean if there is a big gap in the series coming out (looking at GoT for example) you struggle to remember the first books. Of course a 'real' fan would say "just re-read them". :)

I too read the books but not that many. I felt they were unnecessarily long. I liked the adaptation.

We are talking WoT? This sort of series does make think Prime might be worth it.

I burned out on the book series about six books in and never went back, so I'm not much vested in the lore. However I still think I'll give the show a miss as I've been one of those adaptation hating, specky nerdy fuckwhits in the past.

Before the launch, I strongly suspected that AGS positioned NW to drive viewers to Twitch.  Now that it's happened, it will likely happen again.  The question is 'which show will be the next marketing push to cross into the game'.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I've read all the books (twice now) and finished off the TV show the other day.

Now, I read a lot, and I usually end up re-reading just about every sci-fi and fantasy book I own. The good books get read once a year, the bad ones maybe once a decade.

The Wheel of Time books are the only fantasy books I never felt compelled to re-read.....until the TV show was announced.

    They aren't particularly good books.

I have always felt like Jordan created some great characters, and yeh, it's a large cast of characters. But, his actual story telling is pretty awful. He takes forever to get anywhere, which results in a lot of reading and waiting for the good stuff, but irritation because so little stuff really happens.

I mean, book 1, we find out who the dragon is. book 2, the dragon announces himself to the world. Books 3-13.......just lots and lots of sidequests, irritation. Then, book 14, we finally get to the last battle. But, the ending of the book is awful and remains unexplained.

With the TV series, I'm mostly onboard. They've made the world much more high-fantasy which I like. They've mixed and matched nationalities a bit too much for me, I understand why they've done it given the politics of the day, but having so many nationalities within walking distance of one another doesn't make much sense to me from a lore point of view.

I like the casting of Rand and Matt, surprisingly so to be honest. I figured they'd be hard to cast, but turns out they did well. Perrin.....casting was OK, but why did they give him a wife? And then make him kill her? Adds nothing to the story or character.

Egwene.....yeh, just bad casting there. Or rather, bad writing from the showrunners. In looks and personality, she doesn't match the books at all. I think the actress is fine, i liked her in Pine Gap. Just miscast and badly written.

My biggest criticism of the TV series though is that they're way overdoing it on the touchy-feely moments between characters, with the dodgy music thats always playing in the background. I guess this is supposed to give us a sense of gravity and connection, but the music sucks and we haven't spent enough time with these characters for these moments to be meaningful. And they happen too frequently for them to be meaningful.
