I just don't understand its one step forward and 10 steps backward for these guys. They just shoot themselves in the foot so much.

It's really just disappointing maybe we don't know the whole plan yet. They finally lower the price of admission they give all these quests packs away and earn some Goodwill then they do this.
It's like their playing some grand game of crusader kings and they got the hook from giving stuff away and here is the outcome.

    Proposition to Standing Stone Games:
All your money in all accounts and cash are converted to casino tokens with 1000 $ cap.
Only chance to get real currency is through lottery tickets. One ticket is 100$. We also accept all your belongings, like houses, cars, jewellery...
Tickets may give you rat bones, newspapers, frogs and 0,01% probablity of cash.
Other chances is a gift on New year - generous 10$.

Would you, dear Standard Stonehearted Greed games, accept my wise proposition?

    ---

Lotro's is heading towards typical Asian model: he who has most cash, is able to survive. What SSG are doing - taking away currency players earned hard. Why take away? Just because we at SSG do not like it.Endgame would be cash only. Only those who would invest possibly tens of thousands dollars/euros would have a chance to get full set of armour (non raid).
And Asian p2w means only thing thing: Lotro's demise.

What Lotro haters' community did not do, what all pandemic failed to achieve, now is being done by Lotro's own developers: destroying the game. Alienating players, earning really bad PR.

Good luck, greedy developers. You serve Sauron very well.

I mean they keep getting progressively less consumer friendly. and it's likely to milk the slowly dwindling playerbase.

They are a crummy company that can't be trusted.

Enjoy the drama on the official forums.  SSG responded a couple of times in this thread.

Most of the explanation here makes sense to me with their intent:

However, by removing a lot of the sourcing that is used today to get embers (running lower level content, etc.) in favor of pushing folks to run "the content the gear comes from", they've in effect increased the amount of time/effort required to get the same piece of gear they got before for less time/effort.

Ok, I get that - they don't like that people were cheesing their way to get high end gear, and purchasing gear via embers is their way of trying to mitigate bad RNG instead of as primary means of gearing.

Adding "some" additional means/repeatables/one time means of getting embers to offset that - great. So it'll take longer than before to save up for these RNG mitigation pieces, but here's a bone they're throwing so it won't be AS bad as it could have been

However, by also increasing the cost of of said items by 2 - 3x the cost, they have doubled down on the corrective action

I have given them the benefit of the doubt and taken their word for it on numerous occasions. There is just no way to explain this other then they want the cash. I have no issue if they want to make money that is fine I have bought every expansion and paid for a subscription and bought points. I feel like this takes their nickel and dime approach that they have used for years and aggressively bumps it up. For me I think it means I am done which is really sad.

I'm not defending this one bit, but I started playing LOTRO in Feburary 2021, acquired all the content except Fate of Gundabad one way or another and am still XP-locked at level 75 in The Great River. I was taking my time and enjoying my time at my own pace.

But I skimmed over those patch notes last night and I honestly don't understand anything. It's a bunch of currencies that I don't even know if I have or not or what they're used for. For people who are way further into the game than me it probably means something, something bad, but as a very casual player, this means almost nothing to me.

Surprise! SSG has decided, upon reading forum comments and feedback, to NOT implement these changes. Amazing what can be accomplished when a large portion of the customer base not only gets pissed off but also very, very vocal about it.
