Profane Update is All About Skills, With a Video Preview and Ideas for Progression | MMORPG.com
The latest update from the Profane team shows off a short clip of a casting animation, while getting into some of their plans for skills in the upcoming MMO.
Personally 4-6 skill are a bit to few for me but the idea of finding skills in a dungeon like it was in Guild Wars 1 is a good thing. Just make it at least 8 skills and it should be fine. Swords of Legends Online had around 3-6 skills per class/rotation and it was an extremely boring combat experience. On the other hand 'carpal tunnel inducing 6 full skillbars' as seen in EverQuest II is also not necessarily a good thing

Agreed. Sometimes in ESO I feel like I need a couple of more skills, but in WoW it can get a bit stupid with the number of skills.
You can have up to three weapons you can cycle depending on size. Big weapons you can only have 1, medium weapons you can have 2 and small weapons you can have three.
each weapon has three weapon skill slots on your bar that you can cycle. then you have two non weapon skill slots slot that don't cycle then a utility slot where you can put a skill, potion or reagent that doesn't cycle then you have a potion or reagent slot that doesnt cycle
in addition to this you can slot specific basic attack and heavy attacks. The larger the weapon the stronger the basic and heavy attacks.
so if your using huge weapons you get 7 total slots if your using medium weapons you get 10 slots if your using small weapons you get 13 slots.
plus the basic and heavy attack slots.
so you get three different playstyles based on the weapons you choose.
I to think it should be 8-10 skills as well. I just want a good darkfall like mmorpg that improved upon what DFO did and move the genre forward...instead we keep getting half-finished shit, MO2, New world ect ect.
"So in the tweet thread notes that elemental skills will be obtainable through various means in the game. "for example, you might find them very deep in an ancient ruin, or maybe after helping an NPC faction." In other words, you'll have to explore and uncover the various secrets waiting for you if you want to get ahead and make your character as powerful or as flexible as you want."
There is a thing called the internet, I'm sure beta players will have every skill location mapped and posted online on launch day... we see this with most games now.

As always the internet is a blessing and a curse. In this case it kills every kind of sense of exploration. I think one solution could be randomness with either random skills as rewards or random locations but this of course could also go wrong badly and a lot of people, myself inculed, don't like RNG at all.
All this said it still got fond memories of skill hunting in GW1

Also because every one checks the internet no one tries to do it without checking. They could but they won't.
what difference does it make if they do get their destination from the internet? They still have to go there.
i use google earth to find ponds and go fishing. It doesn't diminish the experience any. Many i wouldn't even be able to find otherwise.
Total sidebar, how do you fish local ponds? Here in Florida they are almost always located on private land therefore inaccessible without permission. Or do you go to state parks or something?
Back to the point in question, my guess is using the internet to find a pond to fish in isn't really part of the fun, catching fish is, so it's more of an efficiency thing.
In video games some people (not me) find their fun in exploring, the thrill of the hunt, the rewards are almost secondary whereas I'm more focused on efficiently achieving the goal or reward as quickly as possible, which my guess is most gamers are.
It's often pointed out one does not have to use the internet, mini maps, etc but then most wanting exploration complain that it's no fun to do so unless everyone else is forced to do so
Ah, so their real sense of achievement is finding something where others can't, so their enjoyment is more at creating a sense of envy in others rather than taking personal pride in their own accomplishment.
It's just not fun unless one can lord it over others I guess

where I live (Canada) there is a lot of unowned (crown/government) land and literally thousands of ponds. You can fish pretty much wherever you want in season.

Also, seems it will be more or less like a diablo game with their 4-6 skills.
