I was surprised to see the name of the city I'm living in in an article on mmorpg. I thought Star Vault would be positioned in Stockholm. Thought that was a bit cool.

However, that doesn't make the game better

To be fair, I think it will be a flop. But GLHF!

I swear I saw Minas Tirith and the Gates of Mordor in that trailer lol.

The world looks amazing, like a TES game I would love to explore. Too bad it is going to be a toxic shitfest of a game where if you aren't rolling with a bunch of friends you'll be ganked to oblivion.

Problem is by the time that happens you'll be coming in as fresh meat to the slaughter. That's these games always fail, it is impossible to keep the population up with new players.

The stream is literally in the middle of my work day. And how many are being given out? If it was 1 to everyone then that would be great, but if it’s 1 out to 500 viewers… well…. That sucks donkey balls.

It's very expensive to give a free beta try before launch..

Pass until a free demo of the LAUNCH product.

The 1 UK server can probably support a max of 20K players, so this is just skimming $ from the early adopters (and those who pay will probably be more of the fans and spread better word of mouth... vs a upset PVE player getting in for free and seeing how harsh full loot can be).

Sure. If this were their first go I'd kind of agree. But this is MO2. They had MO1 which was one of the all time great shit show launches and stayed like that for years. I think the onus is on them to prove they are selling a complete game this time and its not the same shit show with nicer graphics

I'll give it a try. If I don't like it, it's not a big deal for me. I spend 30 to go to movies that I walk out of. It's not ideal and I got burnt by MO1, but I'm assuming they're like most human and learned some lessons.

I'll probably catch a part of his stream... I've seen him stream MO2 before...

What's nice is players try to kill him all the time because they see his player name and he is streaming (stream sniping is an issue and lame for PvP games, puts the streamer at a huge disadvantage).

I'll watch for a bit, have 0 hopes for a giveaway key.... 1/10000 odds?

A few carve a small niche successfully. I hear Rise of Agon is doing fine.

Is it though? I forgot this game even existed, I can't imagine how small the population is. We call Crowfall a failure and I wouldn't doubt if it has more players.

I want a pvp MMORPG that doesn't have janky, hollow, unresponsive combat.

That is job #1 when it comes any kind of combat centric game imho.

When that is in game, I'd be delighted to come and take it for a test drive.

6 games in the top 10 all pvp action (with some exceptions with Rust PVE/RP servers)

Just because MMOs have largely not faired overly well with PVP centric gank fest games doesn't mean it couldn't be popular. I blame poor developers more than any game style. Rust, Ark, Conan Exiles wouldn't be played to the extent they are if getting ganked and losting your stuff was as niche as you all make it out to be.

Hard work has gotten Rust to the point where it's got 66,036,686 hours played the past 30 days while New World only has 52,488,030. So please spare me it's about toxic ganking and niche gameplay, it's not... it's about developers, marketing and influencers playing the games.

Edit: I'd like to add that niche games with brutal pve mechanics still do really well WHEN good developers make the game... which is why many of us are going to go suffer in Elden Ring, it's all about the dev team making a good game.

So there is no "ganking" in those games you listed? Meaning that someone could just be standing around doing something else and won't get attacked?

I suspect those games are completely about pvp though I'd be willing to learn more to better understand them.

I wouldn't doubt however that they had some portion of a toxic community. Then again, there are toxic people in most games.

This stream is the worst he has had. He's lost control. Trying to share with these 5 streamers and they are talking about Brendan Frasier and the Mummy and everything except Mortal Online. The only MO topic so far is Thievery which is sounds like none of these people has a clue about...

He should just do the raffles and end it.

Hey they actually asked about Territory Control!!

He confirms it is missing from the game and confirms that it is "super important" and a core feature. He said they will re-code it from scratch. Will be private test access but potentially public. Absolutely no ETA... so folks should NOT expect this for a long time. Game will launch and remain a game of roaming bands of killers with no real purpose. That was my fear.

At least he acknowledged its a long way off so be comfortable with that if you join at launch. Just amazing to be that once AGAIN he will launch a game missing core features.

I am actually l tempted to try the game, still got tons of games waiting to be played though so if the game is still alive in roughly two years time I might actually buy and play it.

He just said they will have 100k capacity. Seems very unlikely... but that's what he said in the stream.

Best line ever: When asked what population would make the game seem too crowded:

"People will be too busy murdering each other for it to feel over populated"

I would love to get a key somehow. I was burned on the first one, but I'm an eternal MMO optimist and figure that people learn from their mistakes. Of course, learning from ones mistakes is the easier (not easy) part. The truly hard part is taking the lessons learned and putting them into practice. The game looks great.

as an aside, I'm hoping there aren't any naked willies running around at the beginning

Thanks for that update, I got sucked into fun gaming so haven't seen the stream yet.

There is 1 server in the UK... 100k players around the world? Sure... the combat is already purposely slow because of the ping around the world.

I just can't see this working out in the long run. With the typical PvP game there's minimal, to no long progression ark, beyond getting better, and climbing the ranks, but in a game like this, all your work goes into developing your characters over the long term, which less people are into. It will likely be a huge grind, you can always be attacked most everywhere, and people love to go around ganking people that are much weaker than them in games, rather than looking for an even fight.

Now on top of all that, you also want to let players take the stuff of those they kill? Despite what those into such a thing love to claim, the market for such a game would be really tiny, and smaller still since there's a few other such games already, including the first version of the game. Unless the companies behind it are ok with the small profits they'd get from the game, they'll likely pack it up, and shut the game down within a few years.
