New World Banned for 24 hours creating too many characters.

Serious question, how is the game?

I just purchased it yesterday on Steam despite all the negative reviews and got banned 24 hours for remaking my character a few times because the character creators skin-color is off and makes me look like a vampire half the time in world vs what it looks like during characfter creation.

Everyone is telling me to refund the game, even on the offical forums people are being censored by AGS, and the Developers / Support arent helpful in fixing the issue thus forcing me to wait an actual 24 hours lol?

https://forums.newworld.com/t/banned-for-creating-too-many-characters/677430/7

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1063730/discussions/0/3201496916541812565/?tscn=1642459295

I'm really concerned about the censorship even if peoples opinions are to refund lol.

I usually don't tell people to refund their purchase of games.  But if that's how they're going to treat you, you really should demand a refund.

It's not just about you.  You don't want to teach companies that it's okay to ban people who just paid them $40 for stupid reasons.

OP was autobanned for being a suspected gold farmer, here's a Community Manager's response from Nov 21 on this same issue.

At that time players looking to migrate to a new server were creating new ones, deleting them and reusing the same name on the next one they checked out.

Looks like since then they added a 24 hr cool down and will auto un-ban them these days.

Thing is this particular poster has gotten caught up in "shenanigans" with previous games, I recall Albion Online being one of them.

I do understand there may be a very small amount of folks not doing this and you should submit an appeal and hopefully you can show you are an actual player on some server.

We won’t be able to help you solve this issue on the forums. We have escalated this potential issue to moderation and support."

Oh yes, and the "censorship" was from the actual community members, not the moderators, apparently the poster was being annoying in some fashion...go figure.

That's not exactly true, I have had games get refunded in the 3-4+hr time frame.  Its just if its under 2 hours its pretty much a guaranteed refund.  Where 3-4hr time frame you probably need a good reason.

One reason I gave for over 2hrs was that a game had a 1hr intro/cutscene so I was not able to even play during that time, with another 1hr hand holding tutorial.

Another was that the advertised Multiplayer was broken, and it took more than 2hrs to figure out that is was broken.

I have never been denied a refund yet.  Although I also feel like I don't abuse it.

    Just saying it is possible.

Why would someone buy gold from an external seller in Albion, when you can do it officially through the game shop ?

Renoaku, I hope things get sorted out for you but we have been here before, I can't remember what the games were but you do seemed to get banned a lot. My suggestion is to do nothing usual in a game and you won't get banned.

Good to see you posting more, wish it was in happier circumstances.

What they don't make obvious is there is a two week period after purchase to complete your two hour trial after which there are no refunds, whether you "break the seal" on the game or not.

Ran into this some years ago after buying like 10 games on a sale then later trying to get my money back on one when I finally got around to playing one of them.

Wasn't a lot of money of course so no big deal (although I still haven't played about half of those games yet) and their two week policy doesn't apply in pre-order situations until after game releases.

Lower prices. Silly thing to risk your account for I agree. People just assume they won't get caught.

Well, gold is already quite cheap in Albion...
I guess some people just HAVE to cheat no matter what.

Back when I played it was still in beta but Albion was a subscription based game and didn't sell gold directly.

I don't think that was added until after their conversion to the current "F2P" model.

This is why having a long backlist of unplayed games is an issue. Last year when I found two games I thought were going to be fine for me were not, I had bought them at least a year before. So more checking is going to be needed especially of indie titles, we may already have lived through the golden age of indie and now be in the fool's gold age.

A lot of games have limits on how many characters you can create/delete how often to combat chat gold spammers but issuing a ban for it is once again, typically hamfisted of them, creating extra work for themselves with ban appeals and all that shit.

A simple 24 hour lock on character deletion after whatever limit they think is appropriate with a clear message that you've reached the limit, would accomplish the same thing while still leaving the player free to play the game with the last character they created which can't be deleted for 24 hours.

Shoot, I can do better than that. For a mere $250 you can get on the alpha list for my game when it goes to alpha. And for $8,000, you can buy a picture of a ship that might be used.

I'm all in favor of doing things to flag someone as a potential botter or gold spammer and then having a moderator take a manual look to see if a ban is warranted.  I can even understand automatically banning free accounts in a free to play game.  But automatically banning someone who just paid $40 for your game based heuristics that make him likely though far from certain to be a gold spammer?  No, that's completely unwarranted.

Creating and deleting characters can't be enough to flag someone as a botter or gold spammer.  If it's a gold spammer, you need to see some chat messages, and the company should be able to track that easily and put his chat messages in front of a moderator to see if it looks like gold spam.  A gold spammer who never says anything to anyone else is harmless.

As for a botter, deleting characters quickly and starting over isn't common botting behavior in an MMORPG.  You need to get high level to get good loot, and starting over prevents that.

Pretty much my pet peeve with Albion, by the way... unlike NW, Albion is really "pay to win". You can grind to get your gear, your island upgrades, etc... or just buy gold and silver and get everything immediately.

Because with Albion Online they used to not have a "Albion Gold" which could be exchanged.

Back in Beta / Early Alpha things were much different I was there since Alpha #1 ever launched before packages ever went on sale.

During the Final Beta of Albion Online without any warning I received an account ban for accepting Investment / Trade without equal value of items in return which at the time I had no Idea was a violation of the TOS since rules state in most games you have to pay real $$$ for it to be a violation of the game rules.

Turns out that just shortly after that ban they posted a launcher message telling everyone not to accept anything, since people were buying up Starter Packages and abusing them giving away the mounts and stuff or selling them to get people banned by doing charge-backs, I had no idea of this at the time since the game had launched should have at least got a single warning of what was going on...

This is while the Admins of Albion Online allowed "The Bank OF Albion" a player guild to violate that same rule I broke by accepting investments without anything of equal value in return where the guild bought up a lot of virtual propertys in game and made money back charging people tax.

Even after that the developers of that specific game made the mistake to introduce laborer journals exploit, then blamed the players for reaching patch-notes and for their own mistake just as they did me lol.

The difference between AGS / New World & Albion for example, you won't get banned for accepting items in New World without anything of Equal Value in return...

I accepted some free weapons / Armor as I was leveling up my character and Gold from a person who was help (To help you level) Never got banned for accepting but never spent real money either.  Now being levle 60 is so easy to make gold / coin in New World.

The focus of online MMO's should be to keep Gold Spammers out of thes games, not target free economy and trade (It took a lot of reporting bots / spammers on the server im on but most are banned now.

I'm all cool with getting rid of the bots too in-fact most the bots are gone from the server I spent many hours reporting them all...

The devs should have, and should just implement a in-game character creator tool that allows editing of a character after it's been created, then people wouldn't have the need to delete and make a new character :\

Anyways i'm level 60 now the biggiest issue on our server is toxicity right now...

It took a manual report with screenshots, and 24 like 24 hours to get a thread calling out toxic players on Steam Discussions to actually get locked (At least it gets to stay), point is the dude got upset over losing ships or something, and decided to take it into game chat with his goons making accusations without backing any of them up, both a violation of Discord Terms OF Service & AGS Terms OF Service launching direct attacks :\

Discord being the more serious issue since full of cyber-bullying each-other, and worse clearly the dude was in-game itself discussing behavior that is concerning imagine that in discord voice comms but worse.

I also remember Albion showing you proof after you appealed with chat logs where the gold seller approached you saying "hi. this is delivery." (for some reason that phrase stuck in my mind :))
