arent theese guys the same people that worked on Landmark? I was hyped on that game so much that I buyed a pack for 100$, then they just decided to quit. I felt scammed. I guess this scam is going to work as long as there are unsuspecting victims with money to spend.
Not related.
Landmark was being developed by Everquest guys, Daybreak Games. (ex Sony Online Games).
Except it can be noted Intrepid hired a number of developers from the Daybreak team and some at least worked on Landmark hence the tie in.
I'm sure they've hired from all over the place. Afaik the main guys aren't related with Landmark nor the games share similar designs and goals.
They are based in the same city, and the lead guy of intrepid used to hold Dungeon and Dragon games with people from Sony thats how he came up with the idea to start his own game studio. We'll see if this game ever makes it to launch, I wouldnt bet on it.
I can see this play out. Take all the money for cosmetics and alpha. Build assets and a half ass game. Sell assets to buyer for huge profit. Tell everyone with an investment in the alpha/beta and bought cosmetics to piss off.

Naw, still needs some NFTs before the scam ...err game I mean is complete.

It will launch. If not then he owes refunds as he specifically said he’d refund if the game didn’t launch.
Now what launch means as far as a fully playable game ... well... we shall see.
He could deliver everything. Or screw it all up. All I know is that I’ll wait to have it launched before I join the hype on this one.

If the game doesn't reach launch because they ran out of money to develop it, then how does he give refunds?
1:05:05 someone says that hippo is a waste of fps and dev is like "someone ban him from chat please"...he says he was joking but somehow I doubt he was. Wonder if the guy who said that was banned from chat. xD
Naa he was just joking, I don't think that reveals their attitudes. For me what is a concern is here they are after all this time discussing art assets.
Despite all the negativity above, this is one of the few games in development that people were actually able to play alpha and even documented and had no NDA during that time. It is going to be a while but the only game that may actually come to fruition.
I'm an original Alpha 2 backer and I still can't get in while they still sell really expensive packs to late comers and let them in. So no, it isn't really like you're portraying it. And it is an insult to the people who originally funded them so they could get going. Alpha 2 was supposed to launch in 2018. They're 4 freaking years late on that and still showing concept art.
It isn't going to be the only game to come to fruition by a long shot. I'll put dollars to donuts that Riot actually releases their MMO before both Ashes and Star Citizen and it will be more popular and a better game.
One of the big problems for Ashes and SC (especially SC) is that, as a business, you want to see a boost of revenue at release of your product. It's new, it's hyped, and folks wanna check it out.
Only, for these two games, by the time they actually release, the hype will have waned into silo'd communities of folks so invested they will follow the development on a daily/weekly basis for years. The hype dies down, and when release hits the mainstream gamer goes "That's just NOW releasing?!?! I feel sorry for those backers!" and logs into Riot's MMORPG to enjoy a game that they got hyped about just a few months before it released.
People will pay for and play a good game. Even if it is made in a concentration camp using drug money after 37 years of development.
Riot mmorpg is years away mate. Don't get your hopes up for a quick release.
I know next to nothing about the Riot MMORPG, which is great because it's nowhere near being ready.
Gamer fatigue is real. I'm tired of hearing about SC and Ashes, to be quite frank. Just show me a release or shut up and get back to work.
Mortal Online 2 sold over 100,000 copies not because it's a great game, but because they revealed info and hyped the game at the right time. These crowdfunded projects don't get that benefit.
I understand you mate. But the thing about those titles is that they are an open business. They need ongoing advertising and coverage to keep the revenue stream alive. I mean look at Camelot Unchained, they have gone kind of radio silent and I doubt if anyone is giving them anymore monies.

Agreed- though I don't feel that any business plan that brings in cash is a justified one if it means taking advantage or misleading consumers. I believe these crowdfunded MMORPGs have all done this.

He has claimed he has plenty of cash. He did say publicly that HE would refund the money.. not the company... if I recall correctly.

To be honest, I doubt it.I mean, he would have to be worth at least 80+ million to not only cover the development costs (AoC is said to have cost around 30 million) but also pay all the refunds out of his own pocket. That could be 40-45+ million, i.e. 30 million + refunds. And he would be a terrible businessman if he put more than half of his eggs in one basket, like if he invested his entire fortune in this project.

Something that certainly caught my eye was the promise that if, for any reason, Sharif believes Ashes of Creation won't launch, he'd refund every donation in full. I was skeptical of such a claim seeing as that Kickstarter money would already be spent on salaries and development by the time the game failed. "The entirety of the budget comes from my personal funding," Sharif says. "So if there's ever a moment in the future where it looks like there's a small percentage that this project might not be done, those reserves are available to refund the people who pledged towards it."
Simply put, Sharif is willing to pay people back personally if Ashes of Creation fails.
Do I think he will refund? No. But I really believe he will "launch" no matter what condition just to make it nice and clean.
