Why I have New World on "hold" for now

I'm way more tolerant than some of the usual game bashers here, and I'm giving new games a fair chance, specially when I'm honestly having fun in them. And I definitely got 500+ hours of fun out of New World already, not bad for a $40 game without subscription. I seems like some posters, even older ones, have fully embraced the actual "me me me now now now" culture, with the attention span of a 10 years old and the patience of a hungry toddler, and forgot how old school games (UO, AC1, EQ, DAoC, AO, etc...) were after release. UO and AO for instance were way more catastrophic than NW, but back then people had more patience and tolerance, unlike now. I guess the era of high speed Internet where you get everything in a few minutes isn't stranger to that mindset.

It's when mega-companies took over whole servers (and I transferred once only to find the same problem) that I began to get annoyed, considering that if you wanted to do anything in game, be it housing or crafting, you had to go to one of those towns and give those asshats some of your gold by using crafting stations or the auction house, or even just paying your housing rent. I'm still watching the game, but the only way to fix that is to completely revamp the town ownership system so that the earned gold can only be used for town maintenance and not for personal profit and real money trading.

The other change that annoyed me was the addition of a new layer of gear grind beyond the previous gypsum based one. That kind of changes should be for an expansion. I am interpreting that as an artificial way to keep people busy instead of adding real content. But I could have dealt with that without the problem above, since I already have good gear that I crafted and purchased before this change, and the difference between 600 and 625 isn't that significant in a combat system where player skill matters quite a bit.

I'm still loving every else in the game, the world, the art, the interface, the crafting, the combat, and recent changes made dungeon access orbs able to be purchased with faction tokens, which is a good fix while still limiting mindless farming of those dungeons.

I don't exclude going back if they add some PvE quest content or new areas, since my character is well geared and I don't really need to use the towns anymore, but NW won't be my main MMORPG unless they do what I said above about the ownership system. Remove the ability for mega-guilds to reap the result of my efforts, and I'll be back immediately. But I refuse to give a part of my efforts to people who don't deserve it.

If you think the player numbers are low for New World now, just wait until Lost Ark really gets going!

I quit after 500 hours of play. One day I realized that root canal would be more enjoyable. Havent touched it since. Boring combat, huge costs and a pain to get around. Constantly walking to resource nodes that may or may not be there. High cost for home ownership.

    The list goes on.
