Lots of people miss that game. When it shuttered there were still thousands of people daily playing so I know it would still be popular.

Storm Riders Online was an MMO in the early 2000s based around the 1998 fantasy Kung Fu film The Storm Riders. I loved the movie and I loved the game. It sadly never left beta I believe and eventually just abruptly ended one day. It had potential at the time and the game that eventually came about and was closest to it in terms of gameplay was Black Desert.

I agree...Asheron's Call but not on anything from Amazon Games...
If it was modernized...man, that would be great...I would definitely pay a monthly sub for that one....

RYL (Risk your life) would be a great game to remaster or remake

Odd.  No one has mentioned Asheron's Call yet.  While I didn't really care for the game as it stood, I absolutely loved the idea of major periodic global events.  Maybe not try to make them monthly, but rather quarterly.

Oh, and where's this forum's perpetual love for City of Heroes?  Good game, phenomenal character creator.  The things they tried to do (zone transits, layering, etc.) were plagued with all sorts of technical issues.  I'd like to see these done properly. (read: without the lag).

I slept in.  What's your excuse.

AC is mentioned 3 posts before you

I was probably still sleeping in.  Or it may have been posted before I finished my post.  Again, the sleep thing.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I'd say "Asheron's Call" but I don't think it would be successful. Modern players wouldn't enjoy its harshness, and what made it really special was the constant story-driven major updates. That's gotten much too expensive.

So I'll nominator "Horizons". That was an extremely ambitious game that would have been magnificent had it done what it set out to do. It only failed to become a major player because of circumstances beyond its control. Tthe game engine provider went bankrupt around a year before release, but the publisher Atari wouldn't let the ship date slip, so all of their resources were diverted from content creation to making the damned engine work... resulting in a game that was incomplete and never really delivered on its promises. It's kinda-sorta still around as "Istaria" but it's only a shell.

    Shuttered -
Warhammer the original way it was suppose to be three faction, etc.

SWG (never played it but everyone raves).

Although it's not shuttered but would love to see EQ2 brought up to newer graphics. One of the most varied games out there, but the graphics for most is no bueno.

Or kick FunCom in the a@@ to update the original The Secret World as in add the content they swore they would. Epic game.

I'd love to see DAoC updated. For remake, SWG and Vanguard for sure.

Asheron's Call, it was the best gaming experienced I've ever had. Unique creatures incredibly in-depth lore and the best loot system in any game to this day. Not to mention the intelligent AI, i mean creatures leveled off you if they killed you! One of it's best features was the interaction by the dev's who could take control of an NPC or baddie and run around stomping players and rewarding them afterwards....how cool is that! So may incredible features it would take a days to lay them all out.
    - The world itself is large at over 1,300 square kilometres (500 sq mi)
    - 987 dungeons in the world
    - 275 character levels
    - 80 plus creatures types dozens of variations of each

    Just SWG

Combat system would need an overhaul. I would still want it to be tab-target, but the original was relatively shallow, few of the skills you unlocked had much use in combat so you'd just end up doing HeadHit3 over and over and over......

SWG was built on procedural generation for the terrain. That tech has moved on immensely, so imagine the detail and the size of the worlds they could achieve today!

Player cities were a great feature, but somewhat limited. I could see a remake trying to use something like a survival game's building feature so we can truly design our own houses and cities.

The PvP could use some modernisation. Assuming you'd already sorted out the combat mechanics, the main thing needed is some sort of purpose. In the original, PvP meant nothing, there were no ranks, no rewards, no goals. Lets have some territory control and really dive into the galactic civil war.

Can we just get a solid remake of the original Everquest? Just updated graphics, modernization of the mechanics but, leave the gameplay alone.

I know it is technically still around, but I would say Dark Age of Camelot or Warhammer Online (done right with 3 factions) or something like it. Not a PvE game with RvR as a e-sports scoring side note like in ESO or GW2.

I'd love to see WAR redone as a similar game but with the 40k IP. Space Marines? Sign me up!

Well, I would love to see Warhammer 40K Eternal Crusade made into the game it was originally intended and marketed as, which was a Faction Based PvP MMO, as opposed to the Shooter that it launched as.

I loved the gear system, the graphics, combat, the whole feel of the game was just amazing. If they managed to make that into the MMO game, that could have been, OMG, something amazing.

As far as AC goes, it's still on the market as is were., When Turbine opted to drop their MMO's, SSG only bought the rights to LOTRO and DDO.

So if someone with some money and a love of the game, is feeling that urge to be ambitious, I encourage you to go for it, buy it and rebuild.

Asheron's Call... Not that I ever wanted to, but if I did, I could de-buff someone's right glove. Now that is control. That game mastered the yin/yang of everything.

Matrix Online. I actually never got to play this, but some friends who did swore it was an amazing game, and I would've liked to try it out. Also didn't see it mentioned here, so why not?  8)

Seems like it's time to fire up the ole Kickstarter machine, raise 5x the amount of money it originally took to develop these games, and "remaster" them into bug-riddled alpha-level shadows of themselves over the next decade!

    Hell yeah!

Saw some mentions of City of Heroes. The game is still live, with tons of players. Not "emulated", but the original, with continuing updates.

Dark Age of Camelot or Star Wars Galaxies. They both have something for everyone while not forcing anything on everyone.

Ultima Online (Pre-Trammel), Everquest (the way it was anytime when the cap was 65 or below) and Anarchy Online.  Honestly just update the graphics engines on them and leave the way it all worked alone.  DAOC would be another.

I've never played Ashron's call, everyone seems to praise it (didn't it shutter shortly after launch? Why?).

So I'd love to try a remastered/improved AC.  Other games I haven't tried and regret, but would give a go if remastered and improved:  Anarchy Online, Lineage2, DAOC, Matrix
