The 'talk-to, get-this, kill-that' gameplay would at first take seem to be a complete snorefest; however the game is somehow engaging and doesn't at all seem like busy work. The encounters finishing each zone are some of the most engaging sequences I've played in any MMO.

Yeah, the ending encounters in each zone are entertaining, if only some fool priest or prince would quit trying to "assist" or ninja loot my kills after I do all of the work to take down the main bosses....

    ;)

90% of the game so far has been boring as you brainlessly walk around kill/click. If you can make it past 20hrs of that you might have fun at endgame. I'm only playing because I have a group to play with. No lie, without the group this would be instant quit for me. It's very generic MMO with little to no unique aspect.

I think that Lost Ark is as good as mobile game. If it had auto battle feature I would not see real difference in it vs Black Desert Mobile. It is weird that when games like WoW have heavy grind, timegating and item grind with very low % chance, it was considered bad, but when Lost Ark has same features, no one bats an eye.

Yeah it's a new shiny; we may get bored of it eventually, but does that mater now? Play games and have fun, or don't.

    My understanding is:

    - it's a new shiny (sets it apart from WoW)
    - lots of content and activities/distractions
    - lots of people like the combat system a lot - that makes a huge difference from how a mobile game plays out

You are absolutely right. Mainly about combat. BDO combat is also fun, but that's about it. In Lost Ark we have a good combat and a bunch of other things to do.

I imagine how beautiful this game would look in Unreal Engine 4. But no complaints about the smoothness.

I only said it matter-of-factly to make the distinction from WoW as a response to the other poster, not negatively (or positively for that matter). :)

I did try it myself as well.

Yeah I was speaking in general, not necessarily entirely directed at your comment. I got what you were saying. I was mostly speaking to the argument that some here are making that evenly the hype will die down after it's not new anymore, but that's pretty much true about most games. I figure if some people here are having fun with it now, that's all that should mater to them. We should be happy there is something new that isn't a rehash or relaunch of previously failed games.

I guess this is the advantage of having a huge cosmetic cash shop. They can always give stuff away to disgruntled gamers to calm their tits.

MMORPG community is so desperate for a good game they don't even realise what is happening.
Amazon is one of the worst publishers ever, probably just second to GameForge but since it has so much money to spend on marketing, everyone plays with their eyes... not with their heads.
Lost Ark is a decent game developed by SmileGate but nonetheless has a lot of problems, first of all the generic progression and path based on mobile titles like BDM and MIR4.
The multiple set grinds that's exactly the same for each tier and exactly the same for each level inside each tier.
The movement restriction in that naval system instead of a good old school teleportation system covered by a P2W cash shop full of items you can purchase to alleviate all the hard work of timed caps.
Don't get me wrong, I'm totally addicted right now by this game because it's so bad that is good, but I'm not gonna stick here for more than a week or two as soon as I find that F2P is not gonna carry me through tier 3 grind and so on for future updates. And before you criticize, no, I'm not having fun at the cost of a F2P game because when I like a game I spend lots of money in cosmetic items only to support the studio behind it.
Good luck to you all and have fun while it lasts cause this one is gonna survive longer than new world but it's just one more to the list. Everyone will go back to FF sooner or later.

    Every encounter.

We're just a bunch of punks doing the bidding of some rich brats so they can take all the damn credit.

And just when you think you've finally ended a toxic relationship, someone else comes along to steal your glory.

I lasted 14 hours struggling to enjoy the game and the whole time I was thinking how much fun I had playing old stuff like:

    - Talisman Online
    - Lineage 2
    - Metin2
    - Silkroad Online
    - TwelveSky 2
and others. It just made me realize I was not enjoying Lost Ark one bit and I would much rather play those old, janky, cheap, blatantly P2W games than waste my time with a generic and overrated game like Lost Ark that is no different from those, yet somehow worse - with bad controls and a very tiny and limited world where each zone is a bunch of tunnels - even Diablo 2's areas felt more open.

That's exactly my sentiment, the game has all the traits of a mobile game:

    - too easy enemies and meaningless progression
    - you're showered with all kinds of useless rewards like login rewards and whatnot
    - UI is overly complicated with 68,000 different currencies for who knows what
    - the crafting is straight up P2W RNG crap that mobile games have

You are right about Auto-Play - if the game had it and was on mobile, nobody would notice anything extraordinary about the game that sets it apart from other trash mobile games.

This just shows you haven't played through the first phase of the linear story progression, game content will challenge you as the game opens up, the story progression is balanced too easily but they want to be quick so that's it.

The progression systems of late game are the real deal, again if all you experienced is the linear story and haven't gotten to the aspects where it all opens up and it stops being so guided, then you haven't experienced the game.

How crazy... LA is one of the best MMOs I have played, I really find amusing the gigantic gap of how some people view this game as a trash mobile game in contrast with the amount of people who love it lol

It's amazing that we talk like BDO online, when you go to BDO PC and you are leveling, you do so by mostly being on X location grinding mobs for Y hours, and then suddently Lost Ark that does your leveling under with a large storyline that has a good amount of voice acting, cinematics, etc.... and at endgame with various endgame content mechanics from raids to world events mixed in with an entire new storyline per continent... why LA is the "trash mobile mmo" experience?

    It's so confusing lol

"They" say ...hmm, level 29, around 25 hrs.... But your results may vary.

I unlocked sailing at 41, but I kind of feel like the game started getting better after the Wall.

Yeah it's at the castle that starts showing what the game is, the ocean and islands are a favorite part of mine, some are really nice stories, songs, or rando fun adventures and there's over 150 of them to complete xD
