For all the, well deserved, bashing the game gets... this is the one thing that they do right. Folks can go and see exactly what exists in the game and decide for themselves on whether to pay for it.
Anyone who plunks down money after all this time... well.. they can't complain when it's 2030 and we are still waiting for "launch"

Am I out of my freaking mind to even entertain the thought of whether or not my laptop's 1660 ti could handle SC?
The game scales very bad. About a year ago I tried this event with i5 3570 & 1050Ti. In more complicated areas of certain city I often fell through the ground when the assets haven't loaded in time. After seeing how little of a working code they have 34 years after a planned release date, my interest in the game fell so low i can't even remember the name of any of the locations.
When will the ten year anniversary of the first free fly be held?
Not sure, but you can bet they'll be selling 10th anniversary ships to "celebrate" the occasion, which will look something like this over at Corporate HQ.

If I can play it with a 970 you should be able to play it with that. Main issue is if you've enough ram and a solid state drive. Unless ofc you need 100 fps to play a game and then the case is no, you can't get that.
I remember downloading the code during a free fly events a year or so back, getting an account set up, being very tempted by their offers to purchase some sort of package before it was "all gone", choosing a starting planet or city and having my avatar "wake up" in a bed or room somewhere.
It was late, so after walking around for a few minutes I called it a night and went to bed.
Next morning after a good night's sleep I woke realizing how close I had come to being lured into purchasing it (cats are weak when it comes to FOMO) so I came to my senses and deleted from my hard drive before anything so foolish could happen.

The 1660 TI can run the game, but you'll need an SSD drive, 16 GB of ram and a not very old CPU.
You can check what should be your perfomance compared to the average FPS of other users: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry
(Use the 3.15 version data, the 3.16 seems incomplete)
They do not. People just don't know how to clip the code I also offer you the emotional support tortoise from arc corp
You haven't tried downloading it fresh right after making an account. You cant get to the part where you enter a code unless you have a game package. You can't get a game package unless you pay, lol... If you already have a package and are current player then you can't see what comes up for a new player right now. It's like one of those automated customer support numbers that keep sending you in loops. I'm sure if you spend long enough you can figure it out, but the fact they make it this hard, to try and "push" people into just buying a package says a lot in and of itself....

I recall running into that loop, they present such that you think you must buy to try the free fly. I actually had to Google how to get around it and as I recall it wasn't terribly intuitive.

It's so hard to get into freefly, you go to the website click the freefly link on the main page, and it tells you to make an account, which are free even outside of freefly, and to enter the flyfree code to get your ships. You don't need a package, you just need to look at the main page when you open it.

That's because even the free trail costs something. Most likely your soul, just ask Babuinix.

Too close... Glad I dodged it.
