Still pondering how I would go about role playing as an african tribesman....

Very different subject which I'm struggling with understanding especially since role playing will be strongly encouraged.

Yeah, I know they created a lore book of some sort, perhaps, but I'm not much of a reader these days unless condensed into very small bytes.

You don't unless you are black, it's a get called racist trap waiting to happen. Sad but how things work these days.

Ya..pretty much what I was going to say. Are we even allowed to play this game if we are not at least 1/16th African on our great grandmothers side?

This is a game with lore, like any other. You play it like a game. You roll play like its a game. That being said. I don't like the big ! in the background. Get away from traditional quests please. Those big ! are a huge distraction from environments, living stories and just adventure in general. I understand we use them to mark quests. Seems like we should have other ways to want to interact with the environment other than simply marking it.

Sounds simple, but it's not. When I role played Kobolds back in DAOC there was no concern as they were mythical creatures, so I couldn't really get it wrong.

But here we're talking about real human cultures both past and present, could pose an issue were I to insult them unintentionally or otherwise.

These are actually fantasy cultures, inspired by real cultures, like Middle Earth was inspired by real cultures. This is not an alt-history or historical fiction MMO.

If you truly are concerned, reach out in their discord or via mods@twindrums.com. They also have a brief section in the lore book that tries to answer this very question.

Also, her hoo-has are hangin' out.
And sadly for the roleplayers, THAT's what's going to attract the first set of players.

This is interesting. Rarely do I ever see an African inspired game. Its usually always about Egypt or something. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Yo rping a Elf is way different than a african tribesperson (Woke af if you ask me using person).

Like we don't live in the fking bright universe lol.

Very real issues have happened. The loss of tir na sol dir vanadiereslaliesrr the great hearth treee isnt the same as say my great great great grandparents benefitting from the enslavement of said people.

It's a thing. It's rough and it sucks. Either way the game looks bad so far so they need to work on their assets it's the blandest version of africa i have ever seen. and I have never seen africa.

Just go play honeyselect2 if you want that. The graphics are better and you don't need to roleplay.

Much of Guild Wars Nightfall is vaguely African themed.

Uncharted Waters Online has a lot of lore and exploration and so forth in Africa, though it also does the same for much of the rest of the world.

While I haven't played it, I would assume that there's plenty of in-game lore for you to run with.  I doubt that they'd expect you to bring in a lot of knowledge about real-life Africa and use that in your role-playing.

Besides, real-life Africa is a big place and hardly monolithic.  Different places in Africa can be wildly different from each other, just like with Europe, Asia, or any other large area.

They will have a "cinematic dialogue mode for curated role-play interactions" so everyone can interact in the proper way, in accordance with the game maker's view, regardless of their real life race and background. It may not have anything to do with how you wanted to role-play your character, or role-play at all really, but it is definitely all about what they feel proper.

Also, diversity is their superpower... curated diversity, I expect.

I guess they will draw on the Ghanaian empire the game takes as its inspiration, but yes players are not as used to playing tribal peoples. Far Cry Primal was a favourite of mine, but in multiplayer tribal is rarely played and I can't think of somewhere it is roleplayed.

Well if that's all you want to do, just take part in a curated story interaction. But I assume people will RP in text chat as well. I take your point about what they feel is proper, I imagine it will be sanitised and politically correct. We shall have to wait and see, maybe the team will be a bit more adventurous, but I won't blame them if they stay on the rails as long as it is not a lecture.

    ha ha ha .

tribal warfare-->enslaved-->sold to middle east slave traders by their own, sold to jewish transporter ships/middlemen and brought to new world and sold as slaves--> blame white people for all their problems.

lol. If I was African American I would have no love for Africa. Then again I know the truth. Foreign concept for most people these days.

My question had nothing to do with the American history and all about African culture. And what I meant by it, that is it might be unfamiliar to you as a white man, same as it might be to a black man.

I also believe there is only THE truth. It is absolute.
