I applaud the company helping out their employees in the Ukraine as best they can, but are we expecting everyone who is Russian to condemn what has happened? Social media's creation of taboos, which cost people their jobs is very worrying in my eyes.
Punishing people for what they think or say and the democratic west cheering for it.
You cannot expect every Russian to act against Putin. Many people believe in him and naturally there will be a 'Go Team' response from many. .
Make America err, I mean Soviet, oops I mean Mother Russia great again types, yes?

Well them and the "blindly support a leader who is totally delusional, totalitarian for your own sake, out of touch, or just outright batshit crazy", crowd who can't admit they made a mistake in their support because that would mean they'd have to re-evaluate their entire systems of morals, beliefs and values.

The thing is, it's not necessarily 'blind' Their news, social media, education...all reinforce it. I blame the Russians less for believing in them because of their concerted indoctrination, than in Americans who have a lot more freedom of information.

Whoops, sorry that was meant as a direct critique of our western political/moral self delusions and not one of the Russian people.
I don't know what to think about the whole situation, both the invasion and this company's response.
All I know is I like to compartmentalize, so I've never enjoyed non-allegorical or non-satirical comments about the current world situation and politics. Same as actors and artists, I respect they have an opinion, but could care less.
In most cases positive press is more like singing Imagine from your mansion while people are dying of COVID or throwing a pride or BLM symbol to sell more soda or whatever.
Sorry for the ramble, I just enjoy the conversation in here, lots of differing viewpoints and currently minimal personal trolling.

This guy hates Western Democracy, these people are a plague on the world as whole. They are confused as to where they stand for and what right and wrong truly is because it all goes back to 1 person they admire telling them what to think and what should make them angry and what they have a right to be angry about. /authoritarianism.
"my peons, you can show me your loyalty by being angry about what makes me angry...now go break shit"
We have to watch our extremists, we have some nuts kicking around the idea of "liberating" Canada or invading Mexico because somehow they think they have a better idea on what personal freedom is or what a threat is vs the people who live there. Scary times.
As I watch the news, I an constantly reminded of what someone said to me.
"Think of how many stupid people you think are in the world"
"No.. there is more than that"
I think about this a lot as I see what is going on in the world around me.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
I figured hypocrisy and ideocracy would lead to politics exploding here again which is why I haven't been on forums much these days
Yes, those darn people talking about current global situations that could affect the future of millions based on the stupidity/ambition/whatever of a few leaders!

That wouldn't affect MMORPGs at all!
I thought talking about politics in general was banable ig not then
Well if they wanted it that way they shouldn't right literally political articles lol

Dunno, I found the article to be quite neutrally written, and it is about a prominent gaming company taking two actions (sending money to a cause and firing one of its directors). If you abstract it from the "why" you can see why it is gaming news. It did not read as a politics article to me.
I actually appreciate that MMORPG's articles are written in a mostly neutral way (compared to, say, MOP), not just in news which have a politics background behind them, but also for news that are purely about games.
Well I applaud how neutrally it was written, but to me this is a fantastic reason why speech shouldn't be too limited in any forum or medium. Everything has a cause and effect, and no matter what the stance is, people should be to speak out and have an open, respectful (kinda) discourse.
As long as Godwin's Law doesn't show, and the topic stays tangentially on gaming and the company, why can't the political causes be examined here, or the possible repercussions?

This. Publishing an article that would spark political conversations then expect otherwise is just silly.
Only one person made a comment about the game itself on this thread, and he got attacked for doing so.

Now see that's the catch 22 right there.

Invading
Ukraine is a horrid, monstrous thing to do. These criminal war acts always seem
to crush the common folks first not the political elitists that start them. Sending
Ukraine financial support, feeding refugees, fast tracking immigration are all
worthwhile endeavours. Their president seems to have incredible bravery to
defend his country and his people where our leaders as depicted in the media seem
to struggle to defend themselves against catchphrases.
That being
said I think the Anti-Russian sentiment is growing to a dangerous level.
Russian now seems to be seen as synonymous with evil. We have hockey hall of
fame goaltenders calling for all Russian players to be suspended / fired just
for being Russian and people online applauding it. There are people being fired
for not publicly denouncing Putin not even considering the repercussions for
their loved ones / families if they do so. I feel badly for them.
Not even a
decade ago Putin’s political opposition was mowed down in front of the Kremlin,
Putin was *outraged* and took personal control of the investigation. His current critic is still imprisoned, illegally hauled off a plane that was forced to land. There are
the Novichok poisonings around the world of his opponents, it may not kill them
all but the message is delivered as this chemical has one source. In North
America we live in a protected bubble in one of the most stable places on the
planet and can complain about our leaders with almost impunity, in some other
sections of the world that is not a freedom they enjoy.

There's something to learn here, I can tell
I know for a fact that there are 7.9 billion - 1 stupid people in the world.
Ah so I've been made.

No one cared when the Ukraine bombed civilians and children in Donbass for 8 years. No one cared when the US and NATO bombed the shit out of some country for the 50th time. But somehow now everyone should care. This is more about who is making war than the actual war.
The western media tells the sheeps to hate Russia and to care for Ukraine, and the sheeps obey eager to show the world what good people they are.
The current climate in society where everything is politics and you have to watch every word you say is disgusting and detrimental to all of humanity. And the worst thing is it is unlikely to go away as long as we have the internet.
