BioWare used to make some really good games that I still hold near and dear to my heart, even to this day. I was never able to get too into SWTOR but if these updates have been as transformational as they claim I'll have to give it another shot.
The changes are transformational for worse, If you decide to play it right now, you would be quite disappointed, game is a total mess, full of bugs and bad implemented new mechanics. Legacy of the Sith has been a total fail, and is gonna take months to fix it.
If you want to beat Malgus now, I learned the hard way how to do it, as the bug has bugs. To avoid the instant damage bug lean up against one of the pillars next to a heal console. That will cause his instant AoE kill to be interrupted when he tries to cast it. After that, you also may want to take a little damage from him so that both your companions are on him.

So basically, nothing has changed in the past 11 years.

I'm a casual player just there for the story and I'm not seeing all the hate and gloom others are.
Yes the change to black for a background color on the inventory panels weren't the best, but it's still useable, you just have to look at it closer and use the cursor to float over objects.
The game isn't a total mess, in fact from where I stopped at the start of Shadows of Raven and where I'm at now towards the end of the Fallen Empire expac I haven't seen any changes that bother me.
My Bounty Hunter didn't lose any abilities and I don't see a need to use the 2nd combat style (which is totally optional so who cares). Yes the new symbols for the classes in the character selection screen legacy part wasn't needed and I liked the older one's better, but again no effect on game play.
I've heard and believe the amount of content in the latest expac (Legacy of the Sith) is on the weak / short side, but nothing says you have to sub to get it now, just wait until the next one drops and then sub. Big deal.
The black background was just to finally the art style of more recent SW games...Well BF2..and probably 3.
It's a thing they do now.
Anyhow 11 years the game is still what it is. A remash of an engine that was kinda fun to work with back when heroes journey was a thing but like...oh man even then it fking sucked...so hey it's working.

I agree. I just came back after really not playing it much since the first few months before and after release. I'm only focused on the story and chasing datacrons and so at level 28 I haven't encountered any issues other than relearning the various menus that have changed or figuring out where the abilities are and how I choose them to get them onto the ability bars and make sure I'm not missing any. It's a confusing design, but I just learn as I go :-).
My only severe criticism is that they had a major bug affecting Asus laptop users with Ryzen CPUs (including mine) that has prevented us from using our laptops for a few weeks now and won't get resolved until patch 7.01 on March 22nd. The fact that they wouldn't make fixing the ability to log into a game for paying customers a priority is unconscionable. It's one thing to let people in and there might be bugs, but another not to be able to play at all. It impacted enough people on one of the most popular gaming laptops that it should not have had to wait until March 22nd. Fortunately, I have a second computer, so whatever, but it's the first time I've ever seen an issue like that not fixed in a more reasonable time frame.
I am really enjoying the game now that I know what it's strength is and I'm ignoring the grindier aspects (crafting, etc.) because the game doesn't really require the best of the best to get through it by any stretch of the imagination :-).
