I took advantage of their free content offering last year. I tossed them $10 afterwards buying a few little cheap extras then played it a few hours. I enjoyed it somewhat. I keep meaning to return & play it more but I just never get around to it.

Same boat. It's a good game with lots of content; just been too distracted by new shiny games.

I'm literally stuck at the battle of Minas Tirith and can't get out. I've done the big battles (which I hate, they just suck) and I can't find a way to move on to the next part of the story. I've wandered around the field until I hit an invisible wall so go back and forth trying to figure out hot to be done with it.

That's my biggest disappointment  with this game. the major battles are just snorefests.

For me, everything past Moria is a turnoff.  Moria may require excessive grinding, but there's so many things to do.  The early parts of the game were stronger, and tried to focus on putting you in the Middle Earth setting.

Most of my characters that I do still play, are almost all pre-Moria.  I just give up after that.

A gem of a title, so many good things to say about it. Yet very long in the tooth. I wish them well. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the old Turbine devs.

easy to be toxic and doompost , but these devs definitely still releasing content and keeping the game afloat.

i think LOTR is massive IP that devs are sleeping on, and havent done anything with for a while now. like harry potter

Every time I return I got bored really quickly...The quests in the game just wear me out and grinding has never really been an option with very little XP for killing mobs.

Pre-Moria for me is also the sweet spot and some of the most fun I've had in any MMO, especially when played back when it originally went live.

And by "expanding the Shire" what they really mean is fatter hobbits.

Haven't played LOTRO in years, this might get me to take another crack at it.

Playerbase has been in the same spot that its been in for years. I'm honestly shocked they still pay to keep the DDO servers up, or rather that they can afford to. It will be a sad day in MMORPG history when LotRO and DDO get shut down.

LOTRO and DDO are different and probably that's why they are still around. I could not enjoy DDO, but I can't pretend it isn't one of the most unique MMORPGs I've ever seen. It's the only destination for D&D fans who want to play an MMORPG, not that piece of garbage joke Neverwinter.

LOTRO is also the only MMORPG about Middle Earth and since the other once was cancelled, that only helped establish LOTRO even more. If that other MMORPG was good, which I doubt, considering it was going to be cross-platform on PC, mobile and console and would have probably be directly inspired by the Amazon TV series, which is going to be a complete woke garbage insult to Tolkien's work so the game could have never been better than LOTRO.

Initially I did not like Moria, but that was mostly because the map was very confusing, but after finishing it, I kind of miss it now. I liked Mirkwood, Enedwaith and Dunland, The Great River not so much and after reaching East Rohan, I really want to skip it - it looks so much the same and boring and the mounted combat is awful and it sucks how much it is involved in lots of quests. When I read about people shitting on the mounted combat, I thought to myself that it can't be THAT bad, but after finally experiencing it, I must say, it's one of the biggest mistakes in the game.

I haven't been past East Rohan ever so I don't know how the rest of the zones are, but I'm hopeful that after I'm done with West Rohan as well, it will get better.

It's too much content already.  Every time I come back after a break, all the systems seem to change and taking an alt from start to current content seems more and more daunting to the point where I have a lifetime account with more points than I could spend but I just don't wanna log in.  It just feels like they are just constantly building new rooms on to a dilapidated house.

You really need to check out the walk throughs with those.  I had that problem too, I couldn't get to the area of the battle field I needed to be at to advance the quest.  Turned out I wasn't suppose to walk over there, but take a fast travel horse that was near the quest giver.

Last resort, right click on your character portrait to exit it.

I looked for walk throughs but couldn't find any. Any leads?

I feel like it should have been a natural progression through the big battles right to the end but for some reason I just can't see it. Heck, I still haven't seen the end of the battle where I assume we win.

It's possible you're having problems finding a guide because there's no actual epic battle called 'the battle for Minas Tirith'.   You have either the 'Defense of Minas Tirith.' or 'The Battle for Pelennor Fields' and both have walkthroughs.

Can't remember which I used, but this is a good starting place for Pelennor Fields:

    https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Battle_of_Pelennor_Fields

    Same for the Defense one:

Eh.. not the vibe I get.

I think they are just getting some idea that since the game has grown, people expect more of it to play when they start.

Think of it this way, if they gave away 20% of the game for free when it launched, players coming in now, still want, say 20% of the game for free, but because the game grew, they are only getting 5%, so, SSG is like.. Eh.. lets give them a bigger taste of the bigger pie, and hope that lures them in better.

The "Mini Expansions" now.. that was desperation to milk money from their lifetime subs.

They should have done this a long time ago, when the game still had a decent population!  Now its just too late and most have long since moved on and won't come back.

Pretty much every other MMO included previous expansions when buying the latest expansion pack.

This was one of the major reasons that turned off new players, when they were faced with so much content being locked behind a paywall. Even old content that was released for free back in the day before Moria expac.  It was nuts and made a lot of players angry back in the time they went F2P and made those horrendous cash grab decisions.
