Lost Ark is awesomely casual while leveling. I find it fun and enjoyable but I got to the point where it was system on system. Cards, engravings, strongholds, 27 thousand currencies. It got to be overwhelming and honestly, the amount of systems caused me to lose interest.
That was almost exactly my reaction too. Enjoyed the casual fun while leveling but the end game systems complexity just gave me a headache.
I do like some complexity in gaming systems but I have limits and LA exceeded those.
I'm still playing LA for now, but for how long ? No idea, I'm starting to get a bit tired of the repetitiveness though, and the end of a gear tier, when you have 40% chances of success and the materials get rarer, is seriously grindy and "pay to win", and according to a friend who is much higher gear score than me, it only gets worse.
Knowing myself, I won't endure that very long.
Also, the quests in this game must be the worse I've seen in any MMO so far. They are only saved by the fantastic cutscenes, which become rare to inexistent after 50, and the great dungeons. The well designed combat helps a lot too. Because all the rest, island hopping, going from one lame theme park to another, is really getting old. Actually, doing chaos dungeons is more fun than quests, because of the great combat.
I had a surprisingly fun time yesterday doing some quest line where I was
projected in a kind of "Matrix", I won't spoil more since it's one of
the very rare great quest parts in this game.
So I'm still having enough fun for now and I keep playing.
This said...
I have 500+ hours played on NW, and only 150+ on LA so far.
Let's see if LA can keep me interested longer than NW.
I love a lot about the game and the cut scenes and the classes. But it got to the point that the UI itself is a game. Or having to have charts of currency and what upgrades what and all that. I liked it for a while, just cannot do it anymore. I have between 100-150 hours played which is normally when my interest wanes or the newness wears off.
My main character is 49 with a paltry 230ish gear score. I haven't figured out how to upgrade my gear (yet), but I've run into a wall where I can't really do enough damage to function in an area.
Don't worry to upgrade you gear until 50+.
And if you're in an area where you have problems before 50, then maybe you've skipped one ? Have you done the Mocoko island before going to Vern ?
I've followed the main story totally. I've been to the Mokoko Island and am now in the mechanical city/desert. Still slogging through that. Overland combat is still a pain; 3 skills at 10, and only 1 really does good damage, but it has a 30 second cool down. So, almost every boss fight has evolved into running around until the timer is ready, closing into minimal range and hitting the skill. I'm supposed to be a Sharp Shooter, but my best change is to smash things up close.
My current Big Problem, I've run out of Pirate coins and my research has completely stopped. I probably did that to myself, by not noticing until embarrassingly late that almost everything in the Stronghold costs Pirate Coins -- dispatch, crafting, research. There is only 3 items on the Research lab, and all cost 2000+ Pirate coins; I have 89. So, I'm stuck with a level 2 manor, workshop and lab, with no immediate hopes for that to change.
IDK how you feel about guides - some hate them and insists on just figuring things out for themselves but I don't. I do not necessarily follow them religiously and will tweak them to suit myself.
These guys are the best on the web with builds and advice for the ARPGs they cover. Look specifically at their leveling guides. It served me well for both my Sorc and Bard.
Well, this explains much. Not only does the game tell you what you have to do and when, but then you also have to go to the online guides who will tell you what you have to do and when. Bleh!
But fine post, and very helpful for those who like that sort of game.
Err, I've used player created build guides for almost every game I've ever played, even many single player RPGs.
I greatly admire and appreciate those willing to take the time to put them together and share, let's me focus on what I enjoy instead.
I know some guys like to tear apart car engines and rebuild them but not me, I prefer to just be the driver and grab most of the glory.
Yeah, I know. You and me, we're opposites in what we want in gaming. And that's a shame because I'd love to be in a Guild with you. You're a good guy and never a problem, easy going like my basic nature. Just not the same for gaming. But at least we can get together here.
Today it peaked at 518k. And the game is 1 month and 2 weeks old. Having almost half the players after this long, it's doing not good, but very good.
The MMO which increases in concurrent players over-time has not yet been ...born. The last one happened almost 18 years ago. Maybe once every .. 20 years?
Anyway LA will eventually settle somewhere between 150k an 250k concurrent players, which is again, amazing because that means around 1 mil+ active players.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
The game is not down to 350k, no idea where you dug that number up from? You must have checked steam game stats right after an update or like at 3am. The game is still sitting around 500k+ concurrent players daily. Obviously, the game wasn't going to sustain the 1.3mil players at launch because this game, shockingly enough, isn't for everyone. Imagine that, a game that doesn't cater or appeal to everyone. I mean we've never had that happen before /s.
So yeah, the game is still doing great and is still one of the best MMO's on the market right now. It won't be going away anytime soon.....not too sure I can say the same for New World though.

I don't think anyone is saying that 350k is bad or a low population. The staple go-to MMORPGs I see people regularly refer to, like ESO and FF14, sit around 15k-30k concurrent players. We are rather pointing how quickly these games seem to be losing their playerbase, you have to see the big elephant in the room that is launching a game with 1 million players and within 6 months losing over 95% of them; and despite Lost Ark already being successful for years in the west the game's population is, as of right now, following in the same direction as New World here in NA. AGS is showing their incompetence and I will be the last one to get hyped for any new projects they put out. Doesn't mean they can't still prove me wrong.
Maybe im missing something here , but FF14 has well over 200k concurrent as well as ESO heck GW2 is over 100k peak daily ...
No one talked about how people play Asian grinders ONLY BECAUSE THEIR FREE, then on to the next, about 30 days.
It's amazing how EVERYONE HERE doesn't understand this !!!

Yeah, not really, small fortunes are being spent by many people who play "F2P" games, and at least 500K were willing to throw down at least a small amount to get into the head start, including me who went full "whale" at the $99 Platinum package. (Wasn't worth it, two Golds would have been better deal.)
I'm still playing for now though I got first taste of the gearing / content paywall last night trying to level my gear to 600.
Felt I had an disproportionate number of failures for 70% but that tends to be my luck when RNG is involved.
I couldn't even get everything up four levels before running out of materials. (Weapon) fell short)
I'm going to have to do more focused grinding apparently for the materials that I need which I've trying to avoid.
I probably will focus on island exploration and picking up additional skill points from the areas I do have access to until I gather more mats.
Interestingly enough there isn't a direct, obvious cash shop solution, ie purchase the stones I need for this amount.
I imagine one has to buy something of value then "launder" it through a few of the in game currencies or markets to get what you really need.

The game is doing decently for now, but many players are disappointed though after getting to the "end game".
It's confirmed by the Steam achievements...
Look at those for instance :
Those are very easy Tier 2 achievements, yet only 5% players have them !
Even worse...
This is a T1 achievement, quite early in the game, which is mandatory to continue... yet only 6.7% have it.
Conclude from it what you want.
By the way, I'm still playing and having decent fun.
You linked a picture of Yorn, that's T2?
And 100% adventure tome completion of a continent takes a decent chunk of time to accomplish. 6% is where I'd estimate that number would be sitting, maybe 10% if I had to guess.
Completing the main story gets you between 30 - 40% for the continent.

Aye my bad, Yorn is T2, sorry. For some reason I confused it with Vern.
Well, look at this then.
Only 15% players are T2 ? Very low.
Or maybe just many people stop playing when they hit the first high failure rate when upgrading gear ?

I just reached Yorn two nights ago, and promptly went back to Rohendel (?) To finish another class (?) awakening quest.
I haven't been offered the opportunity to fuse gems yet, (nothing in the guide) and I've seen Boss Rush, but not even tried it as I thought it might be group content which I basically avoid unless some of friends are willing to come show me. (I don't PUG)
Edit: just noticed you mentioned those being Tier 2...not there yet.
Gear score still at 600 while I farm mats Chaos Dungeons and Una quests on two characters. Probably should be farming on 3 or 4 characters but I just don't have the time.
I refuse to cash shop, not because I'm against doing such in principle, the exchange rates are confusing and as far as I can see, quite terrible.
I mean, you buy 7K orange crystals for a good amount of cash but then have to convert them to like 4K blue crystal (not the exact ratio) to purchase certain items or complete certain activities in game? They can go DIAF.
I'm on step 3 or 4 of the recommend 15 or so island chain quests, again, just too busy. This is apparently starving me for pirate coins which is slowing down my Stronghold progression somewhat now so I'll need to put more focus in soon.
Haven't even entered the Cube yet, friend said I might be able to solo if my gear was close to or at Tier 2, so I'm waiting until then or to go with friends.
So I'll probably get there one day for most of what was mentioned, just give me time
One question, with so many bots in existence, and over a million already banned won't that greatly skew these Steam complettion metrics downward as presumably bots will rarely, if ever complete the above achievements?

An interesting thought. I wonder if a banned LA account detracts from those numbers or they'll sit in the metric. Since an LA ban doesn't neccesarily mean a Steam ban, that's the most likely case?
I know you're not asking for advice, but if I may: With ilvl 600 you can now buy 802 gear off the marketplace for cheap. Once you complete Yorn you'll be able to access the T2 Chaos Dungeons and Guardian Raids.
As for Alts, I don't really think it's a requirement. I have like... 7 or 8 alts? And I've not touched them beyond finishing the knowledge transfer, taking them for a spin in a chaos dungeon and a guardian raid, then leaving them to gather dust.
Never felt I needed them, but I did do the recommended islands to get the ungodly amount of resources they give you so perhaps that's why.

Look at those for instance :
Conclude from it what you want.
By the way, I'm still playing and having decent fun.

That's the BASE GEAR for level 50, in Vern Castle. That's the BEGINNING of T1! How can that number be so low?
Because it was done over a month ago? People are casual I would think.
Then again my current hourage is 314 hours. At 7 weeks, that's an average of... 6 hours a day? So maybe I'm not as casual as I thought lol.

I keep encouraging him to get to 50 /302 so he can hang with the rest of us.
