Except you actually do not. What good is a discussion site that continually loses members and this thread is even about the result of that... No more user generated discussions.
If your only goal is to be the last person standing so you can talk to yourself then yeah... you control your own fate. But if the goal here is to actually have a robust community with a variety of discussions then.. no you do not control your fate. And I've honestly never been more discouraged than after this very thread.
Batman needs his Joker Superman needs his Lex Luthor Tom needs his Jerry Jerry needs his Newman RoadRunner needs his Wile E Coyote
This is getting to or maybe is already past, the point of recovery.
Unless the goal is to close down the forum by banning everyone. That's so far beyond the pale to even think about, though. Probably why I mentioned it.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Well, I don't know why my Azeroth gamepad thread was closed. Nothing offensive that I saw in it. Maybe my positive position the product irked some... but then again, we should probably close build PC advice threads under that same mentality.
No offense to your thread because I thought it was interesting, but half of it was Slapshot and Ungood professing their undying love for each other. Unsurprised the discussion was closed.
Actually... it likely had zero to do with that. It actually falls squarely under the Medium Infraction listed below. Just a guess based on the lack of any other info.

Insightful.. but where is the line drawn between forum users proponents of products and games... versus adverts. I'm a gamepad enthusiast, and I find them very helpful in MMORPGS (as do other users)... shedding light on a next generation gamepad.
Heck, my Hogwarts Legacy thread could be closed because I linked the software teams youtube video. I guess a PM would help clarify, because I was just confused why it was closed.
I really wish I knew what was causing all these bans. Are these posters just going straight up postal guns blazing? Or is it something like speeding 56 in a 55 zone.
Most places don't give you a life sentence for speeding 56 in a 55 on a highway. Doing 100 next to a school dodging kids is a different story.
Its hard to believe people are going all crazy after a decade or more of being fine.
Is this just straight up political, banning one side? As posters should we try to help people out by completely derailing a thread that turns political.

Not Wargfoot as well? Getting tied of saying hopefully back soon, we need new posters not bans. But that also means we need to have a 'civil discourse' as Torval once put it.
Surprised me, too. They usually are going for smiles in their posts that I see.
I got a warning, though not banned.
I said my peace and leaving it at that
Wow you were that close to a ban? Never have I seen you ever say anything controversial. I would hate to see you get banned. This feels really out of hand.

We have been losing a lot of interesting people.
I don't know that we know if any of these bans are permanent. A 24 hour temp ban is an incredibly mild repercussion. A week temp ban is more inconvenient, but still not anywhere near as serious as permanent bans.

The post that triggered the warning was in this thread and it is now removed.
It was perfectly civil but had political content. My guess is that this was the trigger.
Socio political comments are extremely dangerous to post, especially in a thread where you know moderators might be looking. (Or others are itching to report)

I heard that you are losing some ban-resistance% if you use the expression:
Political discussion is exactly what this site needs to bring the numbers. People love sharing their political opinions. They just can't help themselves.
From what I gather, MOP writes editorials with a left-leaning slant. MMORPG can do the same but offer a right-leaning perspective to differentiate themselves.
Once word spreads, left-leaning users will be unable to help themselves in coming to this site to argue against the editorials. Think about how many gaming news outlets are right leaning - almost none. This site alone will stand out like a lamp in the dark and the people will come like flies (just an analogy - not calling anyone a fly XD). Both left and right will come, to attack and defend.
The crucial part of this strategy is not to ban someone for simply being critical of an article or commenter, but to allow everyone to argue to their heart's content. The mass of users will continue to build and the site will flourish. One additional consideration is to keep the author of the editorial's anonymous (political opinions can be dangerous these days!).
After a sufficient mass has been attained, the editorials can slowly shift towards a more neutral position and everything can go back to business as usual, but with increased numbers, the forums will be alive and healthy.

I understand your point (and maybe satire), but people are entrenched in a political beliefs online.
Constantly there is hostility and stalemates when in a non-politics forum... that escalate.
I find people are willing to be open minded to alternate viewpoints... when it hits them squarely in the face in real life.
Fill in the blank... in 2022.. banhammers are mostly done by <blank> leaning folks across major platforms.
It's just not that difficult to not run off at the keyboard and get reported / banned.
I try to contain myself but gosh darnit when I see someone playing a game like SC, MO2, NW; I just feel the need to insult them until they learn the error of their ways. You know, so I can help them.
Well I mean, who doesn't feel the need to insult, but there's a fine line between it and baiting, the latter generally doesn't get you banned when weilded carefully.

Yeah it kinda started when they murdered OT back in the old days from there on the reason to post here is like "naw I'll just shit post a article christina wrote to see if I can get it locked...because it's ez" type of deal.
When the forums are like warn bait every post it almost makes it not worth the risk. Almost.
I'm just impressed there are like 3 hardcore mods who still act like this site is a pg 13 monetization engine it used to be.

When the hell was this site pg 13 they are posting about digital blockades on a country currently in a war with another country, how is talking about economical blockades and war in general pg 13 seems like adult talk to me
Ps: I know this is a stretch but lets be real guys this site is far from pg 13
I'm not even sure about the context of the first part. Like what blockades...where was there a point here on blockades...like dude see my dumpster fire of a avatar see that date well back then we could basically post "go %#$# yourself" and get away with it.
But for your question how is talking about economic blockades with a war pg 13...I dunno ask John Badham. He did a good job.
I gotta keep this going.
Let's ask George Lucas how he managed it with a whole sixtilogy. That's the more impressive part. Almost 5 nailed. I count empire as a R rated since it's so dark. I think we can agree it's the best. So...fivology?

Things were a lot more strict and monitored here back in the day. They also had a lot of volunteer mods. Around the time of the SWG debacle mostly angry SWG vets posted here. There is a reason they made a separate SWG vet forum; no NGE hate posting was allowed in the normal forum. You couldn't even say emu without Stadden giving you a warning, and I don't how many times I was banned or warned for debating the SWG NGE fans even when it didn't become toxic. Swearing was OK, unless it was directed @ someone. These days most things go unnoticed until a few people report it. They don't have the manpower they used to; but many old posters left long ago anyways and most of the traffic these days isn't really forum users.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

I still randomly every few months read the articles. I spend long periods of time never logging into, reading or posting on the forums here. In fact I just happened to somehow see this thread and decided to respond.
I showed up here because of Star Wars Galaxies. I'm not going to rehash any of that, it's just the time period. If you were here then... you already know. Regardless the site was very active at the time (and for years after).
More or less I agree with some of the posts early in the thread. The MMO market (my opinion) has been pretty dead for a long time. There isn't exactly some game (or games) that are there to talk about or in development to speculate about. Previously even if you didn't like the games that eventually came out... they were at least there to talk about.
There was a time an MMO was something I might be playing for years or a decade. Now when something MMO like comes out I rarely make it past a few weeks. Why talk about it anymore? To get the back and forth defend/bash (told it's not the games that changed it's you or rose colored glasses) repetition that's already played out countless times previously. It's just easier to hit /cancel with no feedback or commentary. Close the door behind you and move on.

He created Conan and so many other great works. He died (1936) 1 year before Tolkien published his first book... The Hobbit (independent, just in context - not claiming Tolkien drew on him.. im also a Tolkien fan).
I can't stand Wikipedia for some things, but here's the link (it's decent):

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.- FARGIN_WAR
