Embers Adrift entered its closed beta earlier this month, and while testing has been ongoing each week since, the first real event has been announced. This Saturday, players can join up with the MMO's community manager Elloa to explore the MMO together.

I'm a bit sad that'll miss the event due to RL reasons.
Inventory among other things are serious issues. Devs seem good about listening on some things, but on other simple quality of life issues they seem crazy over the top to me and most others.
However I agree, I am having fun, the grouping in this game has the old school vibe and most everyone is pretty much grouping currently. Game still has a ways to go to be ready for launch.
What are your general feelings about the class system? There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info out other than some minimal posts from players. Does it feel like picking up support is a necessity for most players? It kind of reminds me of SWG where everyone put at least a few points into medic for healing.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
I think mainly this is because healing is very critical so alot of dps make bard classes (warlords) that are technically in the heal tree, but do dps also.
At low level it seems dps is the fastest soloer, but this game is designed for groups.
From what I seen you need 1 healer and 1 tank per group which means 4 dps spots open. Because of the lack of DPS, groups are picking up extra heals and tanks to fill spots. With that said, without a healer the group will likely be forced to break, whereas the other spots can be worked around if you have enough healers.
I dont know what the makeup of a perfect high level group is, but I don't think it will change much.

Well you have 3 choices at first, Defender, Striker and Support. At level 6, you can choose a specialization within your class. (3 spec each) You cannot select abilities from another class or specialization. You may respec you spec at some point, but didn’t experience it myself.
Imo, I think the classes and specializations are well done so far and I’m sure there still fine tuning to be made. I’ve never really played SWG, so i cannot compare on that.
I'm curious as to how this is all balanced. How does a healer that can dps compare to a dps that can heal? Is the specialty or secondary choice weaker than a primary choice? Are there any advantages to going with a class that isn't a mix?

I can go on for days about all the problems this game has. All these thing are horrible, Inventory, Abilities, graphics of abilities, crafting sucks, questing, movement slow, actions slow, not enough abilities on bar .... list just goes on.
To me it has 2 things going for it really.
Grouping (some would say forced)
Extremely mature player base of old EQ fans.
Thats all its riding on really at this point.
Its an EQ throwback and it doesnt have the content, mechanics or abilities EQ type games from old had.
Im still having fun thou, maybe because its still early access and community is tighter, cant say for sure.
Probably more figure heads that talk a good game...we see that alot but that doesnt mean they can make a good game.....
Many times designers are not the best decision makers. How many of these indie games have we seen with fatal flaws that alienate there entire player base, which is obvious to all but the most the hardcore fans.
I already see some design decisions that will make the player base of this game extremely small. Maybe they will fix, maybe not.
Personally I would like to see better management come back to MMO's in general. Sick of all these MMO's that could have been good, but are so poorly managed they fail.
Not saying the old guy was good or not, he seemed a bit cocky, but that's a general trait for many managers. I really cant render a good opinion either way without more info. If someone actually knows something tangible as to what the real disagreements were about, then please share so all these people trying to make an opinion with ZERO information can be informed.
The class system has changed since you could level individual skills, and yes then everyone did a bit of earth (IIRC) magic for healing.
Wardens are a specialization of the Striker class, which is dps. Yes they can heal but only out of combat - their hot gets dispelled if the recipient is hit.
The specializations add flavour to the classes. So Sentinel is currently thought of the best single target healer, where as Duelist get a group heal and some nice dps abilities.
