Its not bad graphics, just not as good as I would have wished for. The fact they are putting that much effort into housing is to be commended, for so many MMOs now all you do is craft and level.

It more and more looks like game development version of bad fan fiction.

It looks like the vision of a person who gave the direction of, "Take everything we can from CoH, but make it different..."

A good artist looks at something, draws inspiration, and wonders how they can make it better and put their own touch on it.

Bad artists just want a copy of something they think other people think is cool.

This game looks like bad art.

Yes, you may have been working on this game for a long time, but what comes out doesn't looks nice... Graphics, atmosphere, animations, interface etc. seem to be completely taken from the Pre-Alpha version of the game. Yes, we miss games like CoH/CoV but such games are not even close to their level. DCU Online is the smoothest-looking and best-playing superhero MMO game on the market right now. Even though DCU Online is an old game, but it's way more ahead of what we're seeing.

Frankly, I never understand why low-budget or indie teams try to make games like MMOs. Because this will cause them to disappear completely in a few months. Even companies that are tens of times larger than these teams sometimes have to shutdown their games completely. Based on my years of gaming and MMORPG knowledge, I don't think this game will stand any chance. Still, I hope the dev. team learns from this.

Thanks for the article Steven, it is informative.

The visual appearance, graphics, animations, and overall impression look good especially given the apparent budget scope.

MMO housing overall now makes me wonder why developers put so much effort into something that is so completely useless. I think their examples look nice, but what purpose or function do they serve?

After playing games with functional base building, purely cosmetic bases are just a non-starter for me. This kind of thing mostly serves to remind me that MMO game systems are so often the most shallow one-dimensional interpretation of a design or mechanic.

Different strokes for different folks I guess, but this doesn't do much to pique my interest in playing.

The demo was just meh.  Why should anyone even bother with non-functional housing?  At least, let my 'base' double as a sales venue, like SWtoR and EQ2 did with their housing.  Because that's the only reason people have for visiting homes in those games.  The brief glances at the house construction tool looked fairly good.

And can someone finally give me different heights of walls instead of one static height?  I want a character to look like they're not the same height as the walls of a building.  Give us 6', 8', 10' and 12' tall wall panels to build with.  A surface curving tool would also be great, for those circular walls, archways and partitions.

If I'm going to hove to live in a tower with floor length windows, I'm going to need some wainscotting.  (Acrophobia is a thing even among characters who can fly).

Tried it and I'm sorry but this ain't the next "City of Heroes",
    - graphics are just plain bad
    - movement and gameplay is just awkward
    - combat is not from this year to say the least

this game will fail badly I'm sorry had high hopes couple years ago but now I see it's lost they maybe be with a small team but the game is just no appealing

A lot of folk down on this, it must be something I'm missing. It looks great to me.

Housing looks like it'll be complex enough to be interesting. Looked like you could introduce different levels to flooring (ground, 1st, 2nd). Though it's not the focus of the video, but the character jumping looked very inanimate. But they're still working on it so the finer details on that will likely come later.

This makes me kind of sad, SoH and City of Titans looked like they were being made out of nostalgia for City of Heroes but the source code for that is out in the wild and multiple private servers are running so the niche has a solid base already.

SoH and CoT look TERRIBLE in almost every aspect, from design style choices to animations, I cant see them being a contender against a game that shut down a decade ago and is now being run by fans for free.

We will see, this is comparing a game that launched to one that has not, but I think the difference in budgets will be an issue.

This is why so many devs fail and why this game will never see the light of day and will be dead before it releases, since a lot of people have already given up on the game and moved on.

Wasting precious resources and time on trivial stuff like housing, while the base game isn't even finished just shows the sheer incompetence and lack of experience of these devs.

Get the basics right first. Animations, combat, Missions, etc. Just overall basic gameplay.

Get a small amount of money together and hire some animation/gfx students to produce something better they have now. Plenty of highly talented artists that would jump at the chance to expand their portfolio and help you out for a bit of compensation.

Like others already said, in its current state, this game has no chance in succeeding, when an old game like COH, is available for free on various private servers.
