IMHO... the very idea that it takes weeks/months and the answer is still ambiguous should tell us all we need to know about this subject.

It is like Islin's post "But Wait" there will always be another hidden mechanic, another level of gambling, but hopefully players even before seeing this have sussed that and are avoiding the game.

I'd like to think no sane person would spend this sort of money on a game, but over the years I've read stories where allegedly someone spent several million on a mobile game.

Only came to public light as the player had embezzled $4M from their firm and spent much of it on the game, which the devs got to keep.

When asked if such spending was unusual which should have perhaps been viewed with suspicion the company said it was the most someone has spent to date but they had a couple of other whales in the $600K - 800K range previously.

This was quite a few years ago on the wargame title Arnold S used to help promote.

It's pretty clear these mobile games are being designed in a way to provide those willing to spend endlessly a way to do so.

I'm not sure I can blame them.

It honestly shouldn't be that hard to understand given that these mobile games have pretty much become akin to mobile casinos. Gambling addiction is a real thing and mobile games essentially give some people their 'fix' whenever they want. Its sad but its just easier for some people to ruin their lives now. It also doesn't help with these people advertising such games who are probably given the stuff they supposedly 'pull' for or honestly dont care if they do or dont. For a while on youtube, 'pull' videos were pretty popular. Heck, you might even see some ESO videos with a lot of views that just pull on x amount of their lootboxes there.

This system has been known about since beta, the gem NPC literally tells you about it, if you can read. That number has also been floating around for weeks. It amuses me, it gets put on reddit and it suddenly becomes hot "news" for every clickbait game site.

    :o

Anyways, such important fact needs sometimes to be highlighted AND repeated.

First, because who cares about your NPC? :p

Second and way more important, because people may not realize to what extent they are being baited to open their wallet.

I really think these redditers/youtubers/webmasters/forumers are making a very useful and informative job. I hope this kind of info will be relayed everywhere and many times in order to lessen the level of crazy greed of the current gaming industry.

If you get baited to the point of using this system it becomes a simple enough case of a fool and their money.

Personally I uninstalled the next day.

But looking at the numbers, it seems there are millions of case of "fool and their money".

This shows how much this message needs to be repeated whatever you knew during beta or whatever that NPC says.

No, it doesn't show anything. You think people who spend this kind of money are looking at these headlines going, ohhh it all makes sense now, I shouldn't give thousands to these people!

Of course not. These articles are just a big circle jerk.
Fortunately, I think that reality is a bit more complex than this. Not everybody fits in the same bag.

    What an embarassment.

I hope Microsoft fires the entire dev team when they buyout blizzard at the end of this year.

Blizzard is the Publisher people, Netease is the developer. However I am sure someone at Blizzard approved it. Could also be a case of they licensed the IP, and as long as they pay the fees they get to be autonomous within a certain scope....

This is not a new discovery. The awakening and Resonance systems were highlighted by the not so stupid streamers even before DIs release. They were in Alpha and closed beta.

The mainstream is just now catching up.

I posted a video explaining the system a month ago and the video was already a coup[le of weeks older than that post:

At some point, if you're willing to spend enough on a game, you could just hire some developers to make an entirely new game that is customized to be more to your liking. Depending on what you want, half a million probably doesn't get you there. But once you're well into the millions, that's a live possibility.

Meanwhile, clickbait-y media sites like GameRant publish articles like this to illustrate that we're either being willfully ignorant, or we are ALL in China's pocket, whether we like it or not.

image I laughed at the part: "For Blizzard" - I think I get why a lot of these media sites leave out the option to directly comment on a article.

NetEase isn't part of the buyout.

Yep, NetEase developed Diablo Immortal, and that fact gets glossed over far too easily.

I will admit being someone who always questions why gaming needs streamers, outside of guides they seem irreverent to me. But here they have taken point on revealing the gambling nature of DI.

As with anything else there are good and bad streamers.

I typically only watch the ones that cover the games I play or am interested in playing and I'm [icky about only watching the ones who are really good at those games and know it well... when they can string sentences together coherently I consider that a bonus,

Those are more niche streamers with much smaller audiences than the dramatic and self promoting ones.

People who go to a casino or bet on the horses know the odds are not with them but they still gamble. Without government regulation I see no way the industry will want to put a stop to this or players could put a stop to this. We can speak out, not take part, but that won't be enough.

I feel there is no greater fool regarding this game than the streamer who spent like $25k on it and then deleted his account to protest....I dunno to protest his own stupidity I suppose.
