Historically FO76's largest audience has been on the PS4/5 platforms but I haven't seen any recent numbers.
Since closing the Bethesda launcher back in April the Steam numbers are more reflective of the general PC population though I'm not sure how the GamePass players access the game.
I'm two of those "players" on Steam as of late now that I've figured out how to run two Steam instances on my laptop.

I loved it but I played it like a real Fallout game. I subbed and had my own server where I explored, did all the quest, played solo. But after that there really isn't much to do but I LOVED!
I've been interested, but sort of on the fence. Has it gotten better from it's rocky origin story?
The gameplay is pretty much what you would experience playing Fallout 4, but you finished the main quest and just wondering and making some side quests. ( Plus there is close to none human npcs )
So if you liked gameplay loop of F4 , its pretty good.

Well I can tell you that GamePass does not go through Steam for anything.

This is one of those games that should have crossplay with all platforms it's available on. I don't know what Bethesda is waiting for. I tried it on PS4 montsh ago and it didn't feel alive, but i only played a little bit around the starting zone (not the starting vault, but the general area outside). I might play it again on PS5 and see how it's doing lately, but i would not be surprised if it's dead population wise. It needs crossplay.

Servers are capped at 24 players max. I am pretty sure it's an intentional cap to avoid the wasteland feeling like it's full of people. It's supposed to be post-apoc, so having a ton of people running around would be jarring.

I suspect the 24 cap limit is mostly a technical limit than intentionally by design.
A queen fight with too many players can get very laggy, especially if the server hasn't been restarted recently, especially noticeable on Monday and Tuesdays just before weekly restart.

Agree, though it doesn't preclude that the setting wouldn't benefit from repeatedly seeing groups of 10-15 players running around in the wasteland.
The entire idea behind Fallout is most of the population got wiped by nuclear bombs. The suspension of disbelief required is tough when you walk out of the vault to a quest hub full of players.

When the game first came out with no npcs that feeling of desolation and loneliness was definitely realized by lower player numbers, however since adding them in by the dozens, if not over a hundred or more it's not such an immersion breaker.

I'm ok with the 24 player cap per server but I think a group of player hanging around together is no different than finding a vault full of raiders or other vault dweller npcs, or a camp full of brotherhood, etc. Players would be survivors just like the other factions.

There was no option to migrate my accounts to Gamepass, Steam migration was only choice if I wanted to keep my Atoms and characters.

They can add as many new trinkets however at the end of the day is that there isnt really any content at max level only rince and repeat each season in most cases this is done to make shure players have little time to progress and spend $ to buy the unlock. What Bethesda did with fallout 76 is a travesty

This game is on sale for $10 with Steam's summer sale right now. If you like looter shooters/exploration/questing I recommend it without hesitation.
