8 years of development and its not even close. By the time this game comes out it will be out dated and no one interested.
Great games are never outdated.  Conversely, there's never a good date for a bad game.

If the game launches in 2030, fits your preferences well, and does a really good job of implementing what they tried to implement, are you really going to refuse to play because it took too long?
That's almost a decade.  That's a long enough time that some people will have started families by then, or graduated school and got careers, or frikkin' died (like the original project head did).

Also  the company will probably run out of money to develop the game by then.
So?  There will be a lot of games released in 2030, and a lot of people will play them.  When considering which game to play from among those that launched recently, do you really look up the date that the game started development and refuse to play it if it took too long?

I'm not predicting what will happen to Pantheon in particular.  But I am saying that what matters is how good the game is when it launches, not how long it took to get there.
Running out of money to develop a game after enough time passes matters a lot, actually.

Good news, many of us have started playing Vanguard while we wait. Was 180 on the server last night.

Not bad number for the only server,Nathan Napalm started streaming two weeks ago and it's exploded.

Which ruleset version are they going with, i.e. what time slice are they using?

For example most DAOC free shards focus on rsv 1.62 which includes the original game and allows for adding some elements of Shrouded Isles Expansion.

Also means they use the original Frontiers and no hateful Trials of Atlantis changes.

Presumably it's a PVE only shard, back when I played Vanguard they had two other types, FFA PVP and a faction server which I was on.  Both types were killed off pretty quickly as I recall due to lack of interest in the game overall.

I played on the faction server and it was a mess mechanically.  It's really why for Pantheon I am focused on PvE

The Atlas private DAoC server maintains 1000+ a day, the SWG Legends server maintains about 1400 per day, it would be interesting to see Vanguard hit hundreds per day and maintain it.

There are also multiple new projects with independent funding aiming to provide modern takes on these games, such as Galaxies of Eden, Monsters & Memories, and more.

Maybe things are looking up a bit for the folks who enjoy the more social first generation of MMORPGs, after all.

Any idea on "when" the code version is, certainly not launch day, perhaps the day the game officially was closed down, or somewhere in between?

I have not been impressed with the videos I have seen of the game.....It looks very boring to me....Its like they took EQ1 and drug out the combat so it takes even longer....Even the devs looked bored playing this.

The idea that it’s outdated is what draws me to Pantheon. I’ve been wanting a successor to the original Everquest experience for 15 years. Graphics might be a little rough, but the mechanics looks solid. This game will bring back the social aspect that is completely absent fra games like Wow and Eso

I dunno, I think gamers have changed a lot since those very early days, seems like there a lot more "everyone for themselves" players today, me included.

    Could just be me projecting.
