Makes sense.  Nobody likes price hikes, but prices for everything is going up.

Not worth purchasing it at that price point. Just wait for the next headset or go with something else. The reason the quest 2 was popular was because it was a great entry level set since it was cheap.

I bet this has less to do with inflation and more to do with them removing the need for a Facebook account to login. I bet they're going to miss out on targeted ads so they are upping the price.

Of course, this could entirely be a marketing scheme.  Buy now before we raise the prices.  FOMO.

Except that instead of needing a Facebook acct to use it you will now need a Meta acct. which isn't any different in my book.

It's kind of different. It isn't hard to be placed in FB jail given their censorship efforts. I believe you lose access to all of your purchased games if you are suspended or banned from FB.

I don't see that being a problem with a Meta account.

My biggest problem with Oculus is their very invasive ToS stating they can turn on your devices mic and cameras at will and gather whatever information they want to sell to whoever they want.

It's Facebook, they exist to sell your personal information. Any questions?

I wanted to try the Oculus out, but never had a FB account.

Rising costs = Meta is in a PR shitshow due to Zuckerberg/Facebook. Of course you need to charge more when people are no longer buying your product.
Don't have facebook and never will, nor will i have a meta account, both of those are valid reasons for not buying into any VR headset that has them as a requirement. That they could also take away everything you have bought and is linked to your account on a whim or because of a certain type of 'score' is more than enough reason to tell them to do one. >:)

Luckily they can't stop you from sideloading or running steam vr games on it.

LMAO as if Meta felt inflationary pressures the same way regular people do. Multibillionaire greedy fucks.

Besides... is VR so firmly embedded now that they think price increases are a good idea? From a sales and marketing POV they should still be practically giving this stuff away to try to get the installed base up to critical mass before they even start thinking about price hikes.

That's fine if it's just commercials on FB from web searches. It's not fine when they turn on my equipment and use it to spy on me.

Of course they rose the price. Remember how they said they won't sell your data anymore? (Even tho they probably still will) this is the result of that.

Have to sell a lot of items to make up for the $2.8 billions they put on VR expenses during Q2.

Yeah, if I had another 5 years to work I probably would switch, but at 65 I'm honestly not looking for extra challenge in my job.

What I wouldn't mind is being RIffed, 1/2 a years pay would be a great way to go out the door.
