    Not really.

IMHO, I think my greatest losses were the games that I could not get into because I already played other MMO's and while the game was not bad, it was not, in comparison to other games good enough to thrill me, even if I could tell they were a good game.

To give an example, TERA, was heaps of fun to play for all of about a week. While nothing wrong with the game directly, I was already playing DDO, and TERA, while a good game in its own right, amazing graphics, I loved their BAM's and Open world, it was, sadly, lacking in contrast to depth of gameplay that DDO provided, so, I would have loved to play a game like TERA again, without the baggage of all the other MMO's I played before it.

    But return.. Nahh...

You never forget your first, for me it was SavageEden (Laghaim was the name of the Eastern version) so many fond memories it allways brings a smile to my face. Close second would def be Clasic Wow, i actually played Classic Wow from closed US alpha (and im from Europe) funny thing is a friend from SavageEden hooked me and 1 of my friend with the Alpha invite and i was probably one of few people in Europe to play Wow like 2 years before it was released in EU (you couldnt even play US Wow when it was relesed in EU unless you had someone in US buy the game and pay with his CC since there were no Game Cards at that time)

Now would be a fantastic time for SWG to come back!! That continues to be the BEST MMO I have ever played and I think if the Devs wouldn't have been dumb and done the combat update, we would still be playing that game today like WOW after all these years.

DAOC was my first, but I don’t think I would go back to it as a first.  Most people forget the problems at launch and how long it took to get it sorted out.  What made it great at the beginning was the promise of RVR, that was always in the back of your mind as you leveled and got to know your realm mates.

For me it would be EQ2, wonderful looking game that had a ton of content at release.  So much to discover and learn about the game.

Really any if these older games would work, it was the golden age of mmorpgs and by far the best time to play these type of games.  Pretty much everything released today shouldn’t even be called a mmorpg.

Everquest was great because you were just dropped into the world...You had to find your own way....No ! or ? or anything else, not even a map....Even they eventually ruined the experience by creating a tutorial and Crescent Reach pretty much ruined the new player experience by giving the players an easy path to at least level 40....It removed alot of the great places like Blackburrow, Crushbone, and Unrest to name a few....Instead of being unique, EQ revamped its game to be like everyone else....Too bad.
DAOC was the same way, you logged in and you were in a very small village and it was up to you to decide what to do next.  Not maps, no quest markers, no guide, you decide what you want to do next.

There wasn’t this idea that you had to hit level 50 in 3 days it was… this is a massive game and it’s going to take time.  I first need to get the lay of the land, explore and learn what’s around me… you might spend 3 weeks understanding the area, while fighting mobs that were interesting in that you couldn’t kill them in 1 second by pushing a random button, you couldn’t take on 10 at once much less 2 at one time.  There was so much to learn that you weren’t worried about the end game because you couldn’t see past level 5 yet.

The old games were so much more horizontal in how they played vs the vertical nature of games today.

I must admit it was more of an updated DAOC I was thinking of myself and one that brought all the best from other MMOs into it. Huge amounts of wishful thinking. :)

The Secret World, the original. What an amazing world, the story telling, the amazing dungeon design and world events. It had it all. I got every achievement and award and would gladly do it all over.

Thinking about this a bit more, I'd probably want to change my initial answer of EQ1.  EQ1 is still a great choice, but there are so many others that I missed out on due to health issues (and an unexplained loyalty to EQ1).  I think I'd really have liked to have been around through the initial phases of City of Heroes.  About the only thing I ever did in that game was make a character as part of a group concept with some EQ1 friends.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
