Black Desert is somewhat of an acquired taste among MMOs. Anthony takes a jaunt around the world just in time for Drakania season, taking a look at what has changed, improved and more since his last jaunt.

Played the hell out of this game at release, did so many things right. The one thing it did wrong imo was it required you to leave it on 24/7 in order to get max returns whether it be crafting, fishing or horse grinding. I felt like if I did not leave my PC running with the game running at all times actively doing something I was missing out. Too AFK centric.

That last paragraph summed up BDO quite nicely, turn your brain off and grind. I just wish there was any point to actually grinding, except for bragging rights, getting full PEN and lvl 64+ is pointless. There's just no reason to actually do any of it, no real goal at the end. I guess if you enjoy the journey, then it's worth it, just not my cup of tea.

Yes, this is right. But it is more or less the same in any MMORPG. The vertical progression treadmill is just more blatant, more core in BDO.

They would call that "Streamlined", I call it rubbing your face in it.

I have been playing for a couple of months now after giving up on ESO and Lotro finally. I agree that the having to leave it on is weird. I do really enjoy it though I found a great guild and am enjoying the life skill a lot. I am very unfocused I should be done with the main quest but im not and just muddle around. Really enjoying it though.

    A piece of advice:
    - don't spend money on the game while you figure out the ropes (that was my mistake). A knowledgeable player can get almost anything for free in this game, most of the time by just being patient and taking advantage of events. Especially do not buy with real money maids/pets.
    - find yourself a money making scheme, whatever works for you. I did not want to leave my computer on. I was too lazy to manage a worker empire. I relied on playing the market and bartering. That worked fantastically.
    - play the long game over years, this is what BDO is all about "long term goals".
    - don't do what you don't like to do or the game quickly becomes a chore.
    - this is why the vets always say to pick the class you like the most and not the FOTM. And they are right.

I picked the sage and he's lvl 58 I am really enjoying him. The money I have spent on the game amounts to what I was paying for my eso sub I wish this game had a sub. You are right they give a ton of stuff away right now my cook is master 13 and that's how I make money. It is a long term game there is so much to do that it will take me a long time to ever finish it I started trading a couple of days ago and I am really digging that thanks for the advice. Do you still play?

I quit because of that too but I didn't actually leave stuff on for hours. I think I did it like twice then I gave up.

I was upset stuff didn't grow when I was not logged on but after playing Archeage I realised how horrible it was when I was forced to log on and check my farm animals and crops or they would all die.

I could have stuck with the game longer after release if I could have actually played and progressed with my friends. Instead, everyone did everything and that's not something I'm looking for in an MMORPG.

    Not really.

I log in sometimes out of curiosity for new classes. I did recently. I was waiting to try the Drakania awakening. I realized I had a ton of orders that went through in the market and I need to sell before my next hiatus.
I also have seen, they made more PvP activities. I may possibly try those. It could relaunch my interest for the game.

I haven’t played bdo in a long time because it felt like there’s no end game except for a endles grind and pvp I don’t mind the grind as long as I can use the stuff I grinded for to do something other then pvp

Does anyone know if they have a good end game activities yet and if so can I have a link or something to something that lists those activities

I don’t see how it answers any of my concerns can you please elaborate why you think it does and why you think I’m living in the past?

Do you still need to go afk to train and let plants grow and resource gathering progress? If you do then it has not been addressed.

When I was playing, AFK training was utterly inefficient. You level up by quest/grinding.

I relogged to test the drakania. They bring you in a quest that is like a visual novel without the choices. From 0 you reach level 51 in about 6-7h. Then you have a few grinding quests (go kill 100 Xs) that bring you to level 55. Do whatever you want to reach 56. Then you do your succession/awakening quests.

After that, you can follow guides that level you up to 61(62?) using quests.

Meaning that nowadays the best way to level up is to do questing from 0 to 61 (almost).

As for AFKing lifeskills, some of them (like hunting) require full player involvement. It is up to you. There are also drinks that allow you to level up stats, that were usually trained AFK-mode.

I stopped levelling before I became eligible to be PvPed so levelling isn't my interest neither is the combat up to and in as far as progressing enough to help my life skills. I enjoyed crafting, managing my worker empire, trading and farming. So the things you mentioned are of not much interest to me.
