Good read. I want to clarify that you missed the number 2 when referring to Phantasy Star Online 2 (because the post is obviously not referring to the classic PSO)

That, and the fact that I very strongly disagree with the removal of manual item pick-up as being a quality of life improvement.

Finally, there is no mention about the JA (Just Attack) missing entirely from New Genesis. There is now no penalty by spamming attack buttons, or what's worse, there is no heavy attack anymore... And that means plain simple the game has decreased their player skill mechanics.

I don't recommend playing New Genesis, and I haven't mentioned the lack of both Personal Quarters and Team Quarters...

TLDR; New Genesis is a Phantasy Star experiment. And I hope it does not succeed therefore it makes a point to reintroduce back the missing core mechanics that are arguably what makes Phantasy Star games worth the time for players.

If you liked the RPG elements of previous Phantasy Star games, then you shouldn't bother with NGS. It is the most distilled and simple Phantasy Star to exist.

There are two stats in NGS that matter, and they are PP and Mainstat. In one decade we went from eight attributes to two attributes. Traps no longer exists, and status effects don't matter. As Unradelic stated above, you now only need to use whichever attack is most effective for the area that you're farming in.

To top it off, the loot is trash too. Actually interesting items are so far removed from the drop table that you can spend a year actively farming for them, and they still won't drop. However that doesn't mean that your inventory space won't be destroyed by thousands of trash drops per hour.

The game is full of problems where the only solution is found in the cash shop.

I hope this game fucks off, but it won't because SEGA is useless.
