Elyon shutting down

As per the post: https://elyon.playkakaogames.com/news/1349
  • Kakao Games Europe, following lengthy discussions with the game developer Bluehole Studio Inc., has made the difficult decision to terminate the live service of Elyon in Europe and North America due to the unsustainability of key performance indicators. The very low retention rate from incoming new players in combination with a declining amount of active users has made most content difficult to clear, leading us to the conclusion that we are no longer able to offer you the MMORPG experience we are striving for. For this, we deeply apologize.
  • The final day of service will be December 7, up until the regular weekly maintenance.

More info in the post.

Not really surprising, the game was not too good and the writing was on the wall since shortly after launch. With only a handful of people playing Elyon for many months now, the game just had no chance to survive...

There were some good ideas, but a game presented as new with a older engine looks immediately old.

The gameplay was not innovative enough either... Why playing an ugly clone, when you can play a beautiful one?

Change meaningfully the recipe first, and then I can enjoy gladly ugly pixels.

It's disappointing when such a hopeful project ends up failing.

I wasn't particularly familiar with Elyon. I thought if it shuts down - it's probably a weak MMORPG clone.

But to my surprise, the game looks awesome at first glance. That sucks.

It was a good MMO, as far as an MMO went, there was just nothing about it that was catching.

Did anyone else play this game and not be able to tell what game they were playing, because it felt generic. Which has been a ongoing problem for me as of late with a lot of MMO's.

Might be why I still play DDO.

They should have stuck with AIR.

That game looked like it had promise.

I did not have that specific problem, to me it was just an inferior version of Tera. A classic case of a sequel being worse than the original. And especially after Tera got its DX11 / 64-bit treatment, it not only looked better than Elyon, it also ran better. Even Tera's world (fairly generic as it was) was more interesting than what Elyon was offering.

But yeah, it was too generic and lifeless. Compared to Tera, most of the skills were underwhelming, open world PvP conflict felt contrived and a complete afterthought, AFK gameplay was utterly ridiculous, etc. etc.

It did look like it, but apparently apart from the visuals it was awful. The gamplay with flying ships had completely failed in their testing and they scrapped most of it. Imagine combat in 3D space with huge unwieldy machines taking up most of your screen real estate. Some airships remained in a very limited mode in Elyon and even that was nothing to write home about. And that was after 2 years of re-working the game...

That's the thing, while AIR wasn't my cup of tea, at least it felt different. Somebody panicked or at least did some research, realized that AIR wasn't being received well as far as their initial announcement or maybe even play testing and decided to just throw in generic mmorpg stuff in order to get it out the door.

Yeah, the time and money they spent turning AIR into a Tera rip off they could have instead spent making AIR a better game.

It's dead on arrival, they make it F2P, and region locked it. People got banned on the first day because the region lock was implemented 2 days later and not immediately. and the game is just a generic fantasy game, it doesn't have the steampunk flavor of AIR

didnt this shit like just come out? That was fast. Developers really need to sit down and study MMO development for a moment before wasting all this cash on some crap put together on a dart board.
