Overwatch 2 players will be getting one of the new heroes coming with the sequel for free, according to Blizzard in a new post detailing the upcoming Battle Pass in the free-to-play title.

Well, the standard system only allows you to use so many characters, and when someone takes it, what do you do? Are the majority of these players in a group? Do they select their character first and foremost? Skewered statistics. Are they all active? What about former? How about looking into why many people have quit instead?
"And you can get to 99.9% of play time for a majority of our players with 12 or fewer heroes."
That still means there's variety you're locking away. A joke of a metric that can be manipulated is not one worth using as a basis for locking characters away.
It'd be different, if... perhaps "eSports" wasn't a complete joke, with "competitive gaming" based on the balance decided by greedy assholes. A tournament setting means fixed rules, not constantly changing patch notes.
Yes, everything on your account remains. This is just a question of not having two different games to update and balance that also are in competition with each other.
