So, how many hours after launch do you figure someone will make a minimap mod?
If the game takes off Im sure that will be made. But Im not sure that will happen.

Also doesn't appear to be on steam, so not buying it until those reviews.... ( as no easy refund )

Really hope it isnt some quick cash grab that just burns the game before it is ready.

    Lets see

-No magic in game which means no magic classes (no wizard mage druid shaman necro etc).
-Not on steam so can't see consolidated reviews.
    -No in game map
-Animation is horrible and unnatural looking
    -No weight to combat
-All combat looks and feels the same either range (bow) or swing a melee weapon. Thats it.

Yeah this thing is going to turn off far more people than not, I seriously hope they're financial plans are for like under 10k subs or even 5k subs. Because almost nothing about this game looks appealing to a broad or even niche audience.

If the game was just B2P, more reasonable price, like $20 without being on sale and no subscription required, I might have given it a go.

Some say not being on Steam is a deal-breaker for them as they can't see the reviews, I'm starting to thing if the developers intentionally did not put the game on Steam for the reason for avoiding negative reviews and maybe making refunds harder if people dislike their game.

I think they are being too confident in their product and too greedy to require a subscription on top of the price tag for the game.

I tried the beta and the game was in rough shape, IMO definitely not worth the money they ask for it. It definitely needs some kind of free trial or something. I hate to say it, but I think the developers are dooming their game with these decisions.

If they add some free trial or remove subscription, I might consider buying it, but not like this, never. I haven't seen a single MMORPG in the past 10-15 years that is worth paying a monthly subscription for, not for quality, not for content, not for anything.

B2P should be the AAA tier MMOPRG and F2P the budget tier one. There are even F2P MMORPGs far better than Embers Adrift, which only makes it a harder pass.

All the rest of your post may have been valid, but if you haven't thought any game was worth a subscription in 10-15 years then you were never going to be their target audience.

As for the free trial, they literally just had one a week or so ago.  Pretty sure what you saw at that time is very close to what they are launching with.  I suspect that they will have another after launch when things settle down.  It doesn't make sense to do that on launch day for obvious reasons, but it does make sense to do it regularly like Star Citizen does.

It felt pretty rough when I installed and ran it during one of their tests last month or the month before. Like pre-pre-alpha rough. I wish them the best but I'm not going to pay to continue to test.

From what I have read they are not going to be including any mod support and use of any would constitute a violation of the EULA. They are pretty serious about catering to players interested in more difficult gameplay and having players just mod all the challenge back out would be pretty counter productive in my opinion.

The game is just a shell of what it should be at launch. You are basically paying them to beta test their game and then they want you to pay a sub also. They should have released it in early access on steam instead. There are optimization problems, lag, mediocre graphics, and just boring generic gameplay with barely any content.

This company is banking on not giving the refunds steam would allow for, this is a last ditch effort and they are done for. Game is DOA calling it now.

When WoW released, me and other kids played on private servers and dreamed of playing on Blizzard, but we knew it wasn't going to happen, because asking your parents to give you $15 (converted into local currency, usually twice the value) on top of a initial price, would most likely result in out parents laughing us all the way to the adoption agency. A crude joke, but in other words we were 13-14 year old kids at the time and our parents would not give us that kind of money for a stupid game. And by the time we had our own income WoW killed itself and nothing else is worth a subscription.

I hear Pantheon and Ashes of Creation also plan on going for the subscription and it seems like the people who are onboard with that are the ones that paid for subscription for Ultima or EverQuest, or whose parents paid subscription for them.

When you've never gotten used to paying subscription for games, it's really hard to get used to it. I guess their target audience is people in the 30-60 age gap and hope that they are patient and understanding enough to put up with their far from finished game.

I wish them luck, but then again I don't know if they deserve it or not, maybe they know full well what they're doing and how much they are asking for an unfinished game, because let's face it, whether one has been paying subscription for games or not, for this unfinished game to ask for base price + subscription is something between greedy and delusional.

For some people, the $10-$15 per month is a lot of money. I can respect that, but that's a minority of people.  For many people that represents a few minutes of work (for some, a few seconds).

I will again reiterate, if you have never paid for your games, this was never going to be the one to make you start.  I think it's disingenuous to suggest you were open to buying it and subbing because I simply do not believe that. You have literally never done that in your entire life.

We definitely live in more 'interesting' times now though compared to 15+ years ago. Now is common place to pay into betas even offered by AAA companies whereas back in the day they worked hard to at least sell you on getting money out of you. I'd say that its an objective fact that we're paying more for less, but that's true across every facet of life these days, not just entertainment.

Odd.  Does anyone remember any documentation necessary to 'familiarize' people with game worlds from the 1st gen MMORPGs?  We heard about the game play and some basic concepts ("it's online roleplaying") and dove in.  The current generation of developers seem to think they need to explain everything.

Lower "quality" of customers is to blame.

We also expected to pay for a product...  not so much today.  It's almost insulting to ask someone to pay for a game.
