Where I will agree with you is the value of being in a mature guild of likeminded players. Thats how I have survived in modern day MMOs, we play it our way; not the "fast food cheeseburger and indigestion" way.
Speaking of which I accepted a random guild invite in NW on a lark.
The guild's name was in French apparently, so after immediately being prompted with their Discord link, I pasted it into my browser and was asked, "Do you wish to join the "Buttery Nipples" Discord?
No. Back in game a quick /guildquit...and the search continues...

In my humble opinion, it's one of the best MMORPGs to play, unlike those dozens of generic MMOs they have nowadays, which make you follow a straight line and you get to the "top" in "1 month". No matter how many problems may appear in the game, the Devs always try to solve it, even though the team is small. If you want a game to play for a long time, build builds, test different builds, thousands of items, if you like to decorate houses it is also possible, it does not have a maximum lvl, infinite progression, very good community, "middle age roleplay" by most players. It's a game that you spend a few days just to understand it, unlike Albion, GW, BDO, etc etc, where in a short time it becomes a boring and repetitive game.
I installed almost all the mmorpgs nowadays, and none had that soul of a true mmorpg, this is even shown by the age of SOTA players, who are 30+ years old, where these guys enjoyed the real mmorpg, and not this limited thing that the mmo's offer today.
That's funny, because I'm 33 and I played the "real" MMOs. I was 12-13 when I started playing EQ and EQ Online Adventures. SOTA is garbage. End of story.

Welcome to the forums!

I have seen a few of old guild mates find homes in games like SotA (Project Gorgon was one I think), but I doubt it is for me. But what counts is what you enjoy, if it gives you that MMORPG buzz then crack on!
Thanks for the welcome!
While the other ladies who are mad at my comment, I just gave my opinion, I'm "new" to the game still, and many who still play SOTA say the game was really bad at launch, and it should have come out now, at this point, where it is best. I'm talking about players over 30 because the vast majority of young people want an easier game where you only think about the "grind", SOTA today is VERY different (from what I see in the videos) than it used to be when it was " released".
Anyway, if anyone wants to play, I recommend it, if not, just don't play.
A streamer friend was playing and actually invested heavily in the game. I invested 0$ and I am glad I did so. It is a pretty boring game. Although I can definitely see the appeal from Ultima Online players.

A streamer? He was a friend of yours, so I am going to have to bite my tongue.

Outrageous, this is what gives our French cousins such a bad opinion of Americans.
What I could suggest is never accepting random invites and checking for the sort of guild you are looking for first. But I think you already know that's a better idea.
Honestly? Who cares. This game was doomed a long time ago.
I presume there are people who play it who care. There are people who work there who care. Because you don't care, doesn't mean that nobody cares. I don't particularly care tbh, but there are people who do.

There are some. Players still post on their forums at times and the game is still getting updated.
