Most people who post are just negative people, so that is to be expected. When someone who has played the game and supports, and enjoys it posts positive feedback, they knock it with sarcasm and childish comments, no surprise.

Well some people are actually reviewing the entire game.  Not just the newbie area.  Its nice to get a little context to what is being said here.

CV dungeon you mention is the newbie dungeon.  People start to go to CV (central veins) at level 3.

These negative people you talk about.  Some of them have made it to last zones released.  Which takes less than 5 days /played to reach.  They are giving a larger picture of information and not just the newb starting area.  Some people would call that having more experience.  I would call someone pretending to review the entire game but only reviewing the newbie experience as hyping.  If someone likes the 5-15 areas and wants to say they are having fun so far.  I have no problems with that.  But lets put in context what is being reviewed.

So once you finally make it out to dryfoot or redshore maybe you will have a different opinion of the actual game?  Is that not possible?

I have been playing since release. Loving it!!!

This game is meant for people who enjoy meaningful groups, relationships with other players and a great community.

When I get a group for a dungeon, everyone is paying close attention, very coordinated, mindful of our surroundings and is very percise.

IMO I am so sick of the Korean games with 5 currencies, cash shops and fast paced crazy combat and no one cares about grouping or talking.

When I am out on my acitivites, people are quick to lend a helping hand, are very friendly and willing to group. Exactly what is missing form todays so called MMO.

The dungeons are very deep and involved and enjoyable.

If you want an old school DnD based game to enjoy grouping with a great community, this is it!

I wish the devs tremendous success, this is a great game!

You can have all that without pain snakingly slow, boring combat.

Questing is delicious, the crafting is delicious. Big sense of adventuring and the thrill is there. The combat system is in between EQ and EQ2.If you like EQ and EQ2, this is your game. It's a niche game for sure. What people are actually saying they don like in this thread is what I actually like. Gotta put the work and effort, no quest helper or ? on top of their head, no map with gps and this is how I like it. A lot of people are wrong in their comments too or barely played the game and they give their opinion like they played 100 hours. Come and grind some!

So its a shell of a game with potential? Thanks for the info but I will pass until it matures.
I wouldn't say shell, and I highly doubt it will mature.  Its not a AAA game, and it doesn't have massive content and it never will have it.  Its probably got 50 -100 hours of decent content if you like PVE grouping.  After that, its time to move on.

If you are looking for a typical 1000hr MMO, yeah this is not going to be that for sure.

If you buy a game, play it and have fun for 50-100 hours, then get bored and quit, how is that a bad thing?  Most games get boring much sooner than that, and a given game will become boring to nearly everyone in far less than 1000 hours of play time.

Yeah, it all depends on the person.  Sometimes I do buy games and only get 30 hours out of it but still think its good.  Usually those go for $10 or less thou.  It doesn't really matter what the price is thou, as long as I know going into it what I am getting. So as long as people know what they getting into, they can choose if its worth it or not for them.

MMO for 50 hours or less?  Yeah well I cant think of any MMO's I thought were good where I only wanted to put in 50 hours or less.  So if I'm dropping an MMO before 50-100 hours, its not because its awesome that's for sure.

I am more bugged by people who have like 3 hours in a game saying how amazing the game is or "WILL BE" but not giving anyone any context to the fact they are just starting the game.

On the opposite side, I think people that have like 5k hours in an MMO then only have negatives about it really need to explain that disconnect.  Its hard to trust someone saying a game is bad when they put in 5k hours.

In general, I just think people should give an honest review and not try to pimp a game they are clueless about.  Usually the cheerleaders are reviewing on what they hope it will be, and not what it actually is.  Then off to the next thing rinse and repeat.

This is a review in progress, not a complete review. I think the flaws you mention will certainly come out then, which is why I am only hopeful for the game down the line. Maybe they can make it solid title, but we have seen before how difficult that can be for CF MMOs, only time will tell.

Yep I agree, I have no problem with the article, they were clear what they were reviewing and that its opinion.

No my beef is with the legion of fanboys for games that super hype whatever they are currently doing with no respect for doing their homework or taking into account the entire information.

I have someone in my family that does this.  Every month they are just hyping some new vitamin or Ponzi scheme, or diet, or activity saying how absolutely amazing it is.  Doing their best to convince anyone that will listen to buy it.  Then next month they are off on the next hairbrained idea.  They never admit they were wrong, or say their prediction record is absolutely horrible.  Nope, they just keep chugging along in life reeling people into their crazy stuff.  Its like to be happy, they have to pull people along with them in their hole of destruction, and they don't care how much BS they put out there either.

One thing I find very helpful in Steam reviews where they display the number of hours played.

I definitely take overly positive views with few hours played or overly negative reviews with thousands of hours in game with a grain of salt.

i myself just did not enjoy the game at all ,it was very basic and honestly i don't see many playing this game for more the 30-50 hours and for it to be a mmo thats charging a sub and box price that's absurd ,combat to me was way to slow i like to solo a lot and at level 10 i was soooo bored with the slow combat and lack of anything to do the text dump of quests ,it did look fairly nice ,i see a lot of the fanboys and gals singing its praises but in all honesty don't get used to this game being around very long at the price points and lack of content mmo should be produced with 100's of hours of content not 10's ,i really wish i hadn't bought the game .What i did play worked nothing was inherently broken didn't really see any bugs ,but for me it just wasn't and isn't going to be anything i sink anymore time into.In the end its to expensive ,to slow, and to niche for it to have any real success  Have a great day all.

Being excited about a new vitamin or Ponzi scheme or diet every month is ridiculous.

But being excited about a new computer game every month is completely reasonable.  Games are meant to be something that you play for a while, then quit and move on to another.

While that's mostly accurate, it does tend to overrate idle games that you mostly leave running in the background while only occasionally actually doing anything.  For something like that, Steam could say several thousand hours played for a game that you only actively played ten minutes per day for a year.

Certain games that aren't strictly idle games also create incentives for people to leave the game running even when they're not actively playing it.

I had a g/f like that, but I blame Gwenyth Paltrow mostly who she thought was some kind of guru, if you want to follow a diet talk to your GP not an actress.

I find an effect that is rather underated is the "Honeymoon Period", games always look better over the first few days, some players are affected my it way more than others. One mate sings the praises of his new game to the heavens, while I am waiting for a month for the reviews and see if he still thinks it is good then, nigh on invariably there are issues by then and by reading between those two extremes I can get a decent idea of the game is for me. :)

Or maybe he just likes a game that you don't.  That's not a crime.

An 18 month old account with a post history that includes ten different games and doesn't have a majority of them about any particular game isn't the typical shill account.

Idk....account age doesn't really mean much if most of your posts were made within two weeks and the others being made around the time you made the account.....I'm not saying the person is or isn't a shill. It does raise suspicion though.

Back on topic though, I dont think any of this will really matter until we see how things are at least a month in to gain a better idea of who's renewing their sub and who's choosing not to.

I agree thou, very sus considering 3 posts different games right after they are called out as a shill.  With no response back.

Some people on these sites have good instincts.

Pimping your own game can probably be the difference of 10's of thousands of dollars or more.  Especially with less than 3% of gamers that review a game.  Its a sad world these days with fake bot accounts, fake reviews ...

Not going to call it guaranteed fake, but its very sus to me.

Naw, when someone comes in here with a delusional recounting of the gameplay that few or no one else is saying similar it's a pretty safe bet something is "off" and it's fair to call them out on it.

Well some people are actually reviewing the entire game.  Not just the newbie area.  Its nice to get a little context to what is being said here.

This reminds me of the discussion of how long a game must be played to form an adequate basis for review. Embers Adrift is one of those games where a  couple of hours of play will not suffice. Those considering the game are quite fortunate to be able to draw on the insights of those that have played  for an extended time.

I'm an old school player that started with MUDs and I'm having a hard time with this game. I also love this "Most people who post are just negative people". I don't consider myself a negative player just a realistic player, I give credit and criticism where due. I was going to stop playing after the first month is up but I may go a few extra months then see where I'm at.

First I'm not really great with directions/maps so the bare minimum map here just leads to constant frustration. I don't mind not having everything on the map and having to explore more but this is just a bridge too far for me. But I get it that some people like this, it's just not for me.

I'm getting old enough that slower more tactical combat is a bonus for me, but the combat seems a bit stodgy, but maybe with some more time in game I'll change my mind. TBD.

What is keeping me interested in the group/community potential. Still early days but it reminds me of EQ (I am still friends with the people I met there). But I also play weird hours so being able to do a decent amount of content solo is important to me.

The amount of time I have to play any one game is limited, so I'm just not sure if I'm going to be able to pop into this game, get some things done and feel like I've made a decent amount of progress for the time invested. But time will tell.

Being excited about a new vitamin or Ponzi scheme or diet every month is ridiculous.

But being excited about a new computer game every month is completely reasonable.  Games are meant to be something that you play for a while, then quit and move on to another.

If you only play an MMO for 50 hours or less, then thats a problem.  For the MMO.  If most people are "finished" with your MMO (or any multiplayer focused game) in 50 hours or less then it will fail  since they're not like other genres of video games.

I will have to disagree with combat strategies being a big deal in this game.

The positioning system is paper thin at best, there are no telegraphed attacks ect to make positioning anything more than which side of the mob you park your character at, little arrow even lets you know if your doing it right.

Combat skill strategy is more or less manage your stamina, which regens during the fight. All characters have an extremely restricted and limited tool set. Defender role gets taunts, support gets heals, DPS gets more dps. The end. Its super straight forward. I see they maybe tried to make skill use strategic, any buff or debuff on DPS skill is super short lived so you maybe want to time all your attacks at once kind of thing, or not....one class has one CC so like in EQ where you manage pulls isnt even a thing.

I will say there is a foundation of a decent game here, but its really...REALLY bland incorporating the bare basic min.

But combat is legit, you stand there, auto attack, and fire off your skills as needed. The end. Positions really dont matter, and your character wont have the skill set to do anything interesting. You manage stamina in fights, which accounts to waiting while auto attacking, and maybe not using a high stamina skill at certain times.

Does this game not have any skill where attacking from behind the mob does more damage or skill chains that do more damage? Is there skills that buff certain attacks or heal over time or big heals versus little heals?
